I truly hope that the outcry and support against the new shader system reaches you, you realize how bad this decision was, and you are able to patch it out.

THIS IS A POST UPDATE: (Original post name, Dear Bungie, did you mean to disrespect us with this cash grab of a shader system, because that's what it feels like.)
After the extreme response this post has received, both positive and negative I felt the need to make a couple edits to further explain the communities frustration and to help feed the trolls trying to get a rise out of everyone.
1. I LOVE THIS GAME, DESTINY 1, OL' BUNGO, AND EVERYTHING THE HAVE EVER DONE. This is not an attempt to bash them and I understand the original title was a little whiny and it made me look really entitled.
2. Everyone who has an issue with the shader system comes from D1 where we had an excellent system where you could collect and "grind" for special shaders, some of which you had to work VERY hard for. This was a perfect system. It allowed guardians to express themselves and show off a visible trophy to everyone else. By making shaders a single use they take away the appeal of trying to earn shaders in the first place. Why in the world would anyone grind for a couple hours to get a shader that you can use on a piece of armor that will be obsolete after a few more levels. If I work hard for a cosmetic item it should be able to be used again, bottom line.
3. MICROTRANSACTIONS ARE NEVER GOING AWAY AND I GET THAT, BUT I'M NOT GOING TO PRETEND TO BE HAPPY ABOUT IT.
First things first, if your argument is "Well then just don't buy it" you can kiss my lilly white @$$. Seriously if you aren't a troll and this is your honest to god argument you are so far gone. The point, to me and many others, is that we bought a game, plan to buy every expansion they offer, and have no intention of leaving this game to go spend time on another for a long time. But for companies like Activision to try and monetize an incredibly loyal fan base is disgusting and greedy.
I will not be buying anything because that is the best way to speak to a company that only speaks in profits, but the point is we shouldn't have to have a micro protest in a game where these types of items exist. If they want to have exclusive shaders that are only purchasable they can knock themselves out with that but this isn't what this and and you ALL know it.
Reddit update:
All the posts on the front of the destiny Reddit total 70,984 upvotes as of this post. This is clearly a problem and if you don't see some issue with it you are clearly in the minority.
Thanks to everyone for reading, I'm sorry if I triggered you, get back to orbit and lets have a good time!

It is definitely a stupid change....BUT I am choosing optimism.....I get game updates because other people will pay to make their guardian look cool/pretty.......

2 RepliesI guess I can see both sides now. Apparently shaders can be used on weapons and ships now. They drop semi-commonly without having to buy them in a loot box. They can also be used in separate pieces of armor for increased customization. A con I can see is that due to RNG it will take time for you to find a complete set of shaders to grant your character a uniform look (if that's the look you're going for). On the other side of the coin shaders in the original were unlimited use. Many of them were earned as milestones, such as completing raids or grinding rep from factions (I can't count how many Chatterwhites I got...). I don't think it's childish to argue against a change to something that was the most common way of expressing oneself in the original. Again, the same con applied here as RNG kept some of us from earning certain shaders. If a compromise could be found it could be that you could purchase shaders you've already found at an NPC using in-game currency. Or maybe shaders earned from factions or beating raids could be multiple use/permanent. Or let there be an option to use a shader once to affect all armor pieces. As much as it irks me to say it, if this is how it must be from now on, then that is how it must be from now on. I will deal with it, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Such is life.

2 RepliesWhen you say "everyone", you really mean just the people that you agree with. I for one am a D1 veteran and have zero issue with the change, in fact, I think it's good for the unique element of guardians in the world.

I personally don't mind the shader system... Does it suck? Yes. But, I'm not the type of person to keep switching my gear around or shaders. Once it comes to end game, I keep one set and roll with it. I honestly prefer that natural look of the gear.

16 RepliesJust wanted to throw my voice into this furor as well. Yesterday I was really exited for D2. I was excitedly waiting for the PC release. News of this system has completely killed my enthusiasm for the game, and I am seriously considering not buying Destiny 2 now. Why should I pay money for a game designed explicitly to suck more money out of my wallet, for features that were both a core part of the previous game and better implemented to boot?

Edited by Bertyslick: 9/7/2017 3:38:18 PMI used to change my shader on a daily and would pick shaders that looked good with whatever exotic I was using. Now this seems to be ruined. I don't get why we can't just use the shader as much as we want and have them be more rare.
-
2 RepliesNot spending £50 on this game until this is fixed lol
-
There is no pay wall... You get an engram every two strikes... Just let us buy discovered shaders.
-
I second it with all my heart. That is low of your Bungie!

2 RepliesEdited by mfx-one: 9/6/2017 10:33:26 PMI have literally grinded for hours for certain shaders. Revenant was a -blam!-ing badge of honor in the early days of D1. And now they decide to trivialize that whole process with consumable shaders and micro transactions. What a clueless decision.
-
3 RepliesBloody hell, as a Destiny 1 Veteran, im really pissed about this change. You could have just changed it so we can apply shaders to individual armor pieces and acutally added something to the game instead of taking away a important feature. Just unchecked corporal greed.
-
Agree. The old system was far superior.
-
I haven't reached far enough into the game where I'd want to start equipping shaders ( all my gear is uncommon ) but I am disappointed to hear about this turn of events.

1 ReplyFor the stupid tread like "Like if You're Happy with D2!!" bungie answer... For this very important and followed by the community tread nothing.......shame for you bungie.......shame for you........

Shaders are going to become the new chroma. You will delete them before they even reach the postmaster. All I'm saying is the game has only been out for 2 days. Enjoy the game and the grind in the meantime.

2 RepliesLet's not forget the presence of equipment mods in lootboxes. Here's a pretty good video on the matter for those of y'all who can put up with Jim Sterling's narcissism: https://youtu.be/oYkAkHkp9ZY Seriously though, this is bullshit. They've lost my sale, and I won't be buying until they've reverted the shader system to its Destiny 1 function and removed any gameplay-altering items(I.E. equipment mods) from lootboxes. I will not be insulted like this, and I will not pay for a game that has been exploited in this manner.
-
They probably were too pressed on time to create 500 plus shaders like the old game did. I'm not sure, still super shit of them. And not buying at all. Watch us best.the raid and it give you a shader for one armor.piece. or give the option to buy whole shader set for 3.99 at boss defeat lmao
-
4 RepliesWith that higher cap on glimmer, I'm okay with having to use glimmer to equip the shade, however I'm not okay with that fact that you get a small stack of 2-3 and when they're used up you have no more, it definitely needs to be a permanent things, same with the spawn effects you get for ships.
-
2 RepliesBungie aren't even trying to be subtle about it, they don't care about the gamer.
-
Im actually infuriated that even the TransMat looks are single use.... I have this veteran TransMat that doesnt go away so I though oh cool we can keep those. But then I equipped the rabbit one and equipped the veteran again and the rabbit is gone!
-
Hit level 20 and you get all the shaders you want. You get them from engrams and bright engrams
-
1 ReplyIt's only a problem if you're not lvl 20 lmao
-
2 RepliesLet me start by saying I love that we can now apply shaders to everything and that you can mix and match to customize your colors. However, I do agree that the singlle use setup is not the best and should be reworked. I think that how it should work is that you can only equip shaders based on how many that you have in your inventory and they should not be single use. Let's say that you have 3 of a particular shader in your inventory, so you equip that to a helmet, ghost and gun, but if you want to equip it to lets say your chest then you need to unequip from one of the other items until you get more of that shader. This way we get to keep the shader and equip and un-equip as much as we want once we unlock it. As far as the micro transactions for shaders I am not a fan, so hopefully we get enough in game to keep us going unless they change the single use issue. If they have some weird colors every now and then available for silver its not a big deal, but if we burn through our shaders and need to buy then that is a problem. In D1 once you unlocked a shader it was your and you could equip it to each character if you want and that worked. no reason to change it.

12 RepliesEdited by Dark Raven 2501: 9/7/2017 4:36:57 PMI'm not going to read the wall of txt. What a load of bull the new system is better but do wish that they would have a selection shader to choose from one of the vanders Edit: when the first game started in 2014 there was 4 million gamers worldwide playing destiny so take that as a basis 70000 players is a drop in the ocean. You don't speak for the majority you only speak for only the minority within this community

It's true that shaders now have more versatility in how they can be applied but at a cost we did not want or ask for. Some of us collect shaders, others collect exotics. How would you feel if they added a cash grab scenario to your exotic collection?
