I know it's long, but please read my post before you respond. Even if you disagree with me, we're on the same side; We all want this game to be as awesome as possible.
I am NOT saying that:
- I'm salty because I'm getting totally stomped by controller users.
- People shouldn't be allowed to use controllers.
- Controller users are console player trash and are innately inferior to members of the PC Master Race.
- I don't understand why Auto Aim is in the game at all and it should be removed entirely.
I AM saying that:
- PVP with an uneven playing field feels bad. Not only does it make it more frustrating to lose ("I only lost because Bungie gives controller users free aimbots") it devalues winning ("I can't be sure if we won because I'm awesome, or because the other three players on my team are playing with controllers").
- It opens another vector for cheating. We're already seeing this with players who plug in controllers to add the aim assist to their M+KB play. You're going to have your hands full with people trying to cheat as it is, even if you find a way to track and ban this behavior it's going to be a constant game of cat-and-mouse as people continually discover ways to abuse the aimbot you yourselves added to the game. Why not avoid this headache altogether by disabling it in PVP?
- People will take PVP less seriously knowing there are sanctioned aimbots among the playerbase, and it will irreparably damage not only the engagement of your most ardent players (the competitively-minded who will stick it out between PVE releases) but if you have designs on making this an Esport, you can kiss those goodbye. The jokes at the expense of your game will be torrential.
I will say that I have no issue with Auto Aim existing in PVE. If it makes peoples' experience better with their control method of choice, I totally get it and I think it should be kept in the game.
This just doesn't make sense when applied to PVP, though. It's less fun than it could be, for everyone involved. It's gotta go. Speaking as a core gamer, I want to sink a bunch of time into getting good at the PVP in this game. But if it's cheapened in this way, the simple fact is I'm going to get bored and frustrated, and go back to one of the many FPSes already available which actually presents a legitimately competitive experience.
Thanks for reading.

10 RepliesYay, a whole new breed of Crucibabies has arrived.

2 RepliesIf not in chat, how would you ever know you were playing with a controller user in the first place? I get the concerns, but I don't see how it cheapens anything, maybe the aim assist (not auto aim) is too severe or something, but it's commonplace in many FPS games now where controllers are used. Some people don't want to use M/K or can't, I don't see why those players should be at a bigger disadvantage. Aim assist doesn't snap to a target (or shouldn't), it slows your aim down slightly when a target is in view of your cross-hairs, it provides assistance where there is a severe lack of precision. The player still needs to provide input in aiming/following the target. If it was auto aim you wouldn't have to touch the joysticks at all, just fire, and that's not the case. Do people actually try and use aim assist on a mouse? I'm not sure how much of an advantage, if any that would have. A controller functions a lot different than a mouse where you have deadzones and sensitivity on button presses to help compensate. A mouse is a precision device, meaning it aims exactly where you point to and you don't need to constantly correct as many movements as a controller. Aim assist would make it so that mouse precision is compromised making your twitch movements over a player slower than what your actual reaction time could be. I think people are overreacting, obviously my opinion is going to be severely unpopular among the
master race
, but there it is.

Edited by VinnieONeill: 8/30/2017 12:09:20 PMWhat a second...I can't use my OSD to monitor my system info because they claim it can be used for hacks...and they just built hacks directly into the game???? Titanfall has this aimbot garbage, but only for the console version.

ILLUMINATI - https://www.bungie.net/en/ClanV2?groupid=2075084 we have 20 and are looking for more

Posts like this are ruining any chance of console players wanting to play this game at 60fps. Thanks. 👌

Guys you don't know but in destiny different guns have different target acquisition. Thats why the hand cannon is so strong in the beta. Its basically a roll. Search it on google.

2 Repliescouldnt agree more. make's no sense why people should be able to use a controller on a PC version. We can't map our key in pair's like Mouse 3 + mouse 5 for Super for example. But guy's with razer raiju ( Scuff ) can bind + Macro's by their choosing

In every other PvP i got in today there was a hunter whith a gun and Aimbot.. Headshot after headshot and so on =( There is no fun in playing any PvP like that for other players. I do not see any point in purchasing D2 with Aim Assist for PC and I'm glad i didn't pre ordered it before trying.

2 RepliesEdited by KingKangeroo: 8/30/2017 3:27:17 AMI don't mind it too much. But I can see why it is annoying.

agreed

3 RepliesTotally agree. As someone with issues controlling and aiming with M+K, and prefers higher level play with a controller... Yeah, no, kill the AA. At least let us opt out-- I would prefer to not have it so high in PvE or console either! My damn reticle keeps getting dragged with fast moving heads, and it feels like Bungie thinks I have no idea what I'm aiming for and am just shooting wildly hoping autoaim will take the wheel. Give us controller players some credit! This has been an issue since D1 Y1. We can aim, its alright, you don't need to hold our hands so damn hard.

Aim Assist has no place in PC games. It cheapens the game for the people that improve legitimately. It's AIMING for you! you are not improving, you aren't good, you aren't skilled. Having controller support is fine if people want to relax and use a controller but you are playing on PC you are choosing to be at a disadvantage. If you are deadset on using a controller go to xbox or ps4. Honestly i don't know the point in giving a small majority of the pc playerbase such an advantage to run around having an aimbot on pc basically. Disable it for everything PVE and PVP. This is the PC version not console version. I really hope this was an oversight. No AIM assist period for pc version pve or pvp. This has really dampened my enthusiasm for the PC version.

I agree 100% No aim assist on PC or No buy as simple as that ... Aim assist is for low skills consoles players , even when i was playing on console , i like the game where there was little to no aim assist like killzone , or mag because the skill require was higher ... COD / Halo type of aim assist is way to intrusive and anoying , even with a controler ... and is unfair and make anyones some " magical " good players ... its sad and very bad ...

1 ReplyAuto Aim should be removed from PvP and PvE on all platforms Its really annoying
-
Edited by Scalawag: 8/30/2017 6:22:50 AMAim assist has no place in PC PvP. I will personally almost never touch it if it’s present in the full release.

1 ReplyPeople bitch about kb/m on console giving players better accuracy, but have no problems with a controller giving you ridiculous aim assist on PC. Hypocritical scrubs everywhere. The whole problem people have is that a peripheral is gaining the upper hand over players who play on the respective platform with the standard input devices. If I play on PC I expect to use a keyboard and mouse, not going to expect a huge advantage from using something else.
-
I'm 100% in agreement that in PvP aim assist should be disabled. I understand this puts controller players at a disadvantage but honestly that's just the way it is. Overwatch suffered from the same problem at launch as well. Aim assist should absolutely be an option in PvE. But not PvP.

3 RepliesEdited by Pso: 8/30/2017 3:15:35 AMAim assist on PC is a cheat, period. Far worse than anything else, and it's 'legit'. It needs removed immediately, there is no further discussion on the matter. Keep it in, Destiny 2 loses.
-
Aim assist should be removed from pc version of the game. It is that simple
-
Sorry this is a Bungie game coded by Bungie employees. Issues like this have been happening since at least the Halo franchise.
-
You are the true guardian! I cant agree more.
-
5 RepliesWow. Three years of being told that AA is a hinderance, and now suddenly it's cheating?
-
It needs some tweaking, but not removed. M+K has some adventage over controllers and vice versa. Deal with it and get good. Damn, Destiny 2 isn't even released and the whiners are out of the gates...

13 RepliesEdited by Cry: 8/30/2017 7:03:04 AMAim assist is how you balance controllers when they're surrounded by MKB. It's called a trade off. Controller is less accurate and can't do some things as quickly, so you give them aim assist to compensate. If you take away aim assist and give them nothing to make up for it, you make them inferior to MKB. We finally have a game that is controller-viable, and people start getting upset. The only reason to consider removing aim assist is because of people using MKB adaptors (the kind you use to get MKB on consoles) to get AA with MKB on PC.
-
The controller is the most confortable option to play a shooter for many players. Our interface with the game becomes much more streamlined making it very hard to press the wrong button or scrolling the wrong way (yes, I am looking at you "heavy weapon" that keeps getting selected without ammo when I switch weapons). But I agree, it also is somewhat the inferior input device: it simply isn't as easily accurate as the mouse to aim and so it needs a little push. However I also agree. Bungie needs to tune it so that it evens the playing field for all players. Getting rid of it is not the best option.

If Bungo reads this , i whant mouse and Keyboard support on PS4 pls.
