This auto rifle... This weapon we had first picked up when we made our first steps into the cosmodrome that had become attuned with the Light and gave us a reminder of who we are. This weapon is a sleeper, not like the simulant. I have only seen it been used at least five times by separate guardians throughout my crucible days, and I am quite surprised by that fact. It either shreds or pounds, depending on the fire rate. My favorite use of it is obviously full auto, then rifled barrel, then counterbalance, and lastly, 450 rpm. The range that can be reached from these choices alone is stunning, if not, a bit terrifying. The bullets carry their power through very long ranges, surprising hand users and even some scout rifle combatants.
It doesn't do much when it comes to exotics, it won't restore your health immediately, it won't make you skate around with lightweight capabilities, it won't return ammo with a headshot. All it does is ask you a favor. It almost speaks to you. "Aim here," it says, as the red dot lines up upon a guardian's head. "Hold this still, and don't let go of the trigger." If you follow it's guidance, it shall reward you. Guardians that fall so quick they don't know what to do. And with recent tweakings that make it more accurate in air, it can be used in all functions, whether it's boots on the ground battles or sky high engagements. It does not fail anyone...
So why is it so unused? A beaten, yet reliable and nasty assault rifle that can tear through any enemy so long as the trigger is held. It could be due to the fact that there are always more weapons more powerful than it. A gun that just needs two bullets in the head to slay a guardian is always more powerful. But those cannons need skill, you know? Once a guardian has that skill, nothing can stop them. Some say that it isn't hard to gain, while others (and honestly, myself) will never learn. The Khvostov, on the other hand, doesn't need the skill, not so much that it's a skill-less weapon. It's... more forgiving, let's say. If you miss a shot with a hand cannon, you are finished. The Khvostov? It has 25 other bullets to put into someone's skull, and they come out pretty fast. If I had to relate it to something else, it's a tier of scout rifle we haven't seen: Very fast firing, very low impact and decent range scout.
The Khvostov 7G-0X has one job and one job only: Kill the thing in front of you. Aim for their skulls and the gun does the rest, so long as the settings listed above are followed. It's reliable, easy to use and maintain, and it's fun to mess with at times. If you haven't picked up the quest or the weapon, go out and give it a try... before the Cabal take it.

The Khvostov is decidedly average. While it's not particularly BAD, it also doesn't excel in anything. You can set it to operate as any other primary rifle, but it lacks the perks that a dedicated one would have. For example, you can set it to operate as a pulse rifle, but there's no reason to choose it over, say, Bad Juju. It's just that it's a jack of all trades, master of none weapon.

I like using it in scout mode at max RPM...and I can't kill anything because I'm screaming "WHEEEEEE" as I miss everything.
-
once went into skirmish with two buds and we all used it and we absolutely DESTROYED the opposing team. pure glory
-
I like the Nechrorgasm better.
-
Unfortunately, my Zero-Day Dilemma with Perfect Balance, Counterbalance, and OEG, outranks it. Kills much more efficiently, and at somewhat long ranges too.

3 RepliesEdited by Freak: 8/11/2017 2:20:31 PMMida is the most reliable Weapon in the game!!! ;) You might have a case if changing weapon types actually changed the dmg output. But it doesn't. It's pointless....
-
Another person with my opinion? That's impossible...
Seriously though, the Khvostov is actually incredible when used correctly. What's that? WNBA use it in PvE? Well, go 900 RPM, burst fire, and 54 shot mag. It's so darn reliable!
19 RepliesIt is a waste of an exotic. Changing the firing modes is dumb because it doesn't change the damage. It is just an average legendary auto rifle with decent perks. It is not very good and in most cases won't kill the thing in front of you. You are better off with a legendary like Genesis Chain

2 Repliessorry suros regime or necrochasm slaughter this guy
-
It's alright. Nothing special, like most exotics. But hey, if you like it that's cool.

Edited by Swiftlock: 8/11/2017 8:28:18 PMIf you want to simply hit something, then the 7G is reliable. If you want to kill something that is trying very hard to kill you back with a god-rolled legendary meta weapon and sticky grenades, the 7G is not reliable.
-
It's out performed by a lot of legendaries. Complete waste of exotic unless you only have about 4 legendary primaries.
-
Amen!

1 ReplyThat gun has to return to D3
-
My favorite weapon too, Desdinova. Has gotten me out of so many situations.
-
Might just dust it off but I'm loving Fabian right now in the crucible....
-
It's not bad, but it's not good. Total waste of an exotic slot.
-
1 ReplyYou can use it as an effective scout rifle? How many headshots does it take to down someone? I ask because I only use it as an auto rifle.
-
It's unused because I adore my First Curse! :-P For realz though, the Khvostov's performance belies its seemingly mediocre stats. It is astonishingly capable. Glad to see someone else use my same setup: 450, Rifled, Counterbalance. It's all you need, really.
-
If the sight, stats, and the pulse and scout rifle didn't suck so much, it would actually be a pretty good weapon...wait a minute...I just described the whole weapon .-.
-
The Khvostov is a wonderful bread and butter gun, and you are quite well-armed with it in your hands.
-
I like it in bullet hose format, but my arminius-d is a better bullet hose. Most people just have better legendary weapons for every mode the Khvostov has. The Khvostov is a jack of all trades, but master of none. Also,it became available at the same time as Y3 gjallahorn. I usually have Gjally,Sleeper,or one of the 3 exotic swords equipped.
-
I easily have a dozen ARs that are far superior to the khvostov.
-
It's so unused because there are weapons that are proven to be a lot better. It's a fun one though.
-
I haven't used it in a while, but I remember liking the slower fire rate more than the 900 rpm.
-
The reason it's underused is due to hand cannons which have a faster time to kill and you don't have to be as accurate with your shots and then the rest of your range is covered with icebreaker. Its a good auto but theres always a better choice for your exotic
