My conflicts with switching my main in D2.

Hello everybody, To start this is not a rant or anything of the sort, this is to talk about my conflicted feelings of switching my main but it has nothing to do with gameplay aspect of the classes. I have been a casual Destiny player from day one to a majority of TTK (I got into RoI a couple of months ago) and have played all three classes enough to gear good and be well skilled in each. My way of selecting a class is to pick the one that is closes to my personality. My choice was the Warlock since most RPG like games I tend to play the mage class. I never main a Titan because I don't like the constant confrontation that is common among warriors, as for the Hunter I knew early on that this would be a popular class and I tend to avoid the most played weapon, style, class etc.. But a few months ago as I learned more about the classes and the new lore behind each I began to have some conflicting emotions on which class better fits me. Right now I am torn between sticking with my Warlock or main a Hunter, as you know there is more to each class than the typical archetypes that they are based on. The reason that I am considering switching to Hunter is mostly because I have recently seen them as more than the typical lone wolf outlaw. For example when I picked the Warlock I did because I though my self as a scholar as well and preferred to understand things at a deeper level, before I though of Hunters as nothing more than glorified scouts that seek glory. Now I see that as explores who constantly rise to new challenges and are willing to gain new knowledge for that purpose, what makes them different in why they learn new things is more centered around practicality than the Warlocks. I have more to go on for this but I will leave it as is for now. What about you guys? Any conflicts with changing your main but has nothing to do with gameplay?

  • It's going to be super hard for me to pick. I'm thinking this time around I'll be a Titan myself. I never gave the chance to destiny one titans and I'm super stoked to play one in Destiny 2.

Easy pick for me, stay as my Titan. In every game I play I'm more of a get up close and punch something hard (if the game has a monk class I'm there) so the second skill branch for striker has me excited to bounce from enemy to enemy with smg and extra range extra damage punches that trigger hp regen on kill 😃 Edit: also the whole bulwark against the enemies of the city thing appeals to me. First to the fight, last to leave.

  • I've been a male Exo Warlock for 50 Days in-game, since vanilla, and my decision to change class to a Hunter has nothing to do with the classes themselves... But the story being told. Do I want to continue my Warlocks story? Has he deserved a long needed rest? My Warlocks story ends with Destiny 1, so I can go back to the game and enjoy a good time with an old friend. My thinking is.. my character is my gear and weapons.. that's taken away, might as well start fresh. And even making a different Warlock won't fix that.. because I know I'll feel like I'm playing my D1 Warlock regardless. My life as a lil female Exo Hunter begins Sep 6th.

      • It's a video game. The lore is a bonus, but try to play and master the class you have the most fun with. Remember that in lore, Ikora spent a long time out in the wilds exploring, but was still a warlock, and one of the greatest too.

        • Let me just copy/pasta something I put in a different, albiet similar post. I think you'll find a familiar theme. I began my journey as a hunter, eager to explore a new world, and bring back phat loot. I fought pirates for the privilege of plundering the bones of the golden age on Earth. Killed a god and his brood on the Moon. Thwarted and then saved the inscrutable mind of the vex on venus. And started a war on Mars, the same war that would destroy our city. In between those adventures, I even found out something about myself, for it was not the thrill of battle that kept me coming back for more, nor the lust for virgin terrain that lead me to accept the next mission. My motivations were much more selfish than that. I had questions, I needed answers, and the harder they were to find the more I hungered for them, each answer raising more questions, fueling my ravenous appetite. I know now that I was never a hunter, and while it hurts to leave behind my frabjulous cape, I must be true to my self and take up the bond, and should you ever meet this new warlock starside don't be afraid to ask your own questions, you too might learn something about yourself

          • I have been wanting to switch to a hunter as well but honestly it's really hard for me to go away from maining a Titan like I always have. Obviously eventually I will have one of each, but my main has always been a Titan, it's where my heart is.

              • I am considering it for a multiple reasons. :( I love hunters, I like to be the guy that has the speed and stealth to flank enemies, but trades off toughness for it. I enjoy the risks of losing battles if I don't pull off flanking just right, and the multiple kills if I do. No invisibility, or at least hiding form radar makes that type of gameplay harder. Like you, I prefer to play the less used classes; hunters before everyone discovered how good they were in pvp, were that class. I think there was maybe one other hunter main in the group that I started playing destiny with. Sadly they have become the most popular, most complained about class in the game. In a way I am hoping to see more people go away from hunters, as I want them to be less popular (for completely selfish reasons). I absolutely hate warlocks for the most part, they are my least favourite class of Destiny. I don't like there dress type armour, or their jumping abilities. Their supers are okay but I like the flashiness of the hunter, or the fun of a bubble titan. However, Destiny 2 has me strongly considering them, (and I fear that they too are going to become the go to class of D2). Two reasons why. One is the healing rift: in Overwatch when I am not playing as Pharah I like to play Mercy. I actually I enjoy helping keep other players alive, I find that it can be just as challenging as trying to kill other players, and when you do well at it. Other players are appreciative. The second is once again group dynamics, right now the two people I play with most are intending on playing a titan and a hunter. That leaves the gap of the warlock in our three man fire team. Still I like the arc strider, and found it to be the most fun to play. It is going to be a difficult choice for me on September 6, in terms of what class I begin with.

                • I only played titan in D1 (didn't have enough time). Chose it because I never played Halo and was Master Chief. I'm still too attached to titanmasterrace tho I'll try the other two classes.

From a lore standpoint go warlock maby then your team will listen to your call outs unless they are a titan lol if destiny was a mil sim hunters would be scouts / snipers warlocks would be commanders and titans would be " light" infantry

                    • With the lore and history involved, if i were you i would pick the warlock. Although i hate them with a fiery passion at the moment (however let's not talk about that), they are in the lore quite a bit. Next to titans, i feel Warlocks were more in the lore than the hunter, look at Osiris and Iron Lord Felwinter. They had more of a role i believe. However if you want to talk about gameplay, I would pick the hunter. I tested all 3 in the d2 beta, and i found the hunter much more fun than the warlock. The hunter could also get the job done. Arcstrider and Golden Gun are amazing if you know how to use them. So yes, which ever one you prioritize more is the one i recommend.

                      • Guardian, I really understand what you mean. Let me tell you this: until few days ago, like you, I was seriously wondering to switch my main Class from Hunter to Titan in D2 for gameplay reasons. Yep. Hunter is cool as ever in D2 but it seems to be unable to give a good support to the Fireteam as Titans and Warlocks do thanks their Class Skills. But... in the end, I decided to remain Hunter and the reason is pretty simple: I feel myself a Hunter. Really. When I play Destiny as Hunter I have fun, I feel like that is the right way to do it for me. Of course, I play Titan and Warlock too, but it's not the same thing. I started to play Destiny 'cos I was convinced by a friend of mine to buy and try the game. When I started it I knew nothing except for what he told to me and I perfectly remember his first words: "Bro, you're a Hunter, for sure. No doubt about". He was certain about that, he was even ready to bet on it, really. Before that words he didn't saying nothing about the gameplay or other things. Just by knowing me he was sure I would have picked the Hunter. And when I found myself on the Classes Screen for the first time, I read the Hunter descrption and I picked it without a single doubt. Never regret that choice. So yes, I have some doubts about the gameplay for the Hunter Class but still, I'll remain Hunter.

                                • Hm. From like a lore and style point of view right? As opposed to gameplay and abilities? I dunno, I can find traces of myself in all 3. Like Warlock is my third. It isn't my favorite class to play, not really anyway, but as far as the whole personality thing goes, I can dig parts of their style. Like the seeking knowledge thing. They are like the cross between a mage and a scientist to me and I really like that. The intellectual part of it appeals to me because I like learning shit and becoming knowledgeable about the universe. But in all honesty, if the world of Destiny was real life, I'd be better suited as a Titan. In the game, my Titan is secondary. But I'm a big guy and was in the military, and I do have this sense of like duty and honor. Titans can be head on, in your face, and ruthlessly overpowering. But they are protectors as well. All traits I really like and identify with. I main a Hunter though. I can't say 100% why. In the game (in my opinion anyway) their vanilla setup sucked for PvE. Which is what I mostly play. But there's no doubt their supers and abilities could be great at PvP. It was sort of a mixed bag for me. I didn't really feel useful in a team with my abilities, not until Nightstalker. But I kind of accepted that some of our abilities kinda sucked for teamwork for a while. In a way I guess I thought it made me better as a player if I could survive as a squishy, no recovery having Hunter. From a personality side of things, I just identify with a Hunter more than the other two. It's cool You brought this up in the way you did, because I think that's actually why I main a Hunter. 90% of the time I'm kind of an introvert or a loner. I mostly keep to myself and am guarded, but in no way does that mean I'm shy or silent. I'm a smartass, a clown, and I like to mess with people either to get them to laugh or get them to think. But I dig the Hunter's style because of this. Out in the wilds alone. Gotta figure out how to do it on your own. Precision, mobility, and attention to detail that all become second nature so much that it's a walk in the park for a Hunter. You can be silent or be cocky about it. Or both. All while wearing a cloak that says "Look at me" and "fxck off don't look at me" at the same time. So I'll still main a Hunter. Just my take.

                                    • IMO. And purely from your perspective, disregarding anything in game related...because clearly Titans win the day in Destiny... Hunters: Loners, however thy understand one another. Have a deep connection with the land. Once a terrain is explored and scouted, they are masters of it. Adaptable survivors who can be sneaky, or full on lethal in a variety of different ways. They also respect leadership, and most understand that they will never be a great leader, nor do they want the responsibility. They will stop at nothing to give their all to save even a single ally, however they don't do it for the ally. They fight because it's who they are. Warlocks: IMO warlocks are very self centered. They seek a deeper understanding of what drives their adversaries, how they fight, what powers they use, where they come from, and more. They have said that they use this knowledge to defeat them, but in truth they only study these things for personal gain. Some of them call themselves a higher order, but do not even disclose their knowledge to anyone. They're literally called 'the Hidden.' Two of the great warlocks of the lore, Toland and Osiris, both went off on their own to study our enemies in their own way. Yes, it could be said that Toland gave us some assistance, but that was still just selfishness and more or less a taunt at his new power and understanding of death (although he can't really use it in the overworld or whatever). It has been speculated that Osiris has reached a constant state of radiance, which is awesome. Perhaps in the D2 DLC we will see him return to help us regain the Traveler. But I would bet money that he returns only for personal benefit. Titans: They build walls and break stuff. That's pretty much it. But if you need some one to do that...call a Titan. They are the front line. And they enjoy it. Thrive on it even. If a Titan were to run out of walls to build, or adversaries to overrun...they would probably wither away in a cave somewhere with a bottle and a very long beard. They would gladly die again and again and again to protect their cause. But they do need a cause, or they have no purpose and grow idle hands. Lastly, as far as I can tell, all three have the same amount of propensity to fall into Darkness, or succumb to 'dark' or 'evil' power. But of course who's to say that one is dark, or light...good or bad?
choose wisely :)
• Man, I'm in the same boat. I'm a Titan in D1 since Day One and am loving it. I did played Warlock and Hunter and I loved them as well. But I do play Titan A LOT. However, with D2 being around the corner, I'm starting to second-guessing myself about wanting to main Titan or not. I really enjoyed Hunter with Arcstrider power. It was so much fun in Beta. And the Voidwalker 2.0 was amazing as well. Decision, decision, decision. I will, eventually, play all classes but I kinda want to stick with one-character for everything during the first year or so. I've been watching TONs of youtube videos to help me decide what class I will main.
