First off, I understand what they want us to do playing the class. I've had other external forum discussions where people have stated I don't understand the class. I do, but I argue its impractical and weak.
Arcstrider is all about using melee. The thing is, this is just not how they've designed the Destiny content in PVE. If they're going to make a melee based subclass for a shooter, they need to prioritize vastly different things to make it work. Hunter is the weakest armored class. How does that work with getting up close and personal with enemies?
Also, unless a melee can do considerable damage to all enemy classes, and not just the lowest ranking fodder, then meleeing is way to risky because higher damaging enemies like Minotaurs, shielded cabal, and Fallen captains will just melee you to death before you can kill them. Therefore, your whole subclass is pointless because you can't actually use it without 1. being at risk constantly, or 2. dying to higher leveled enemies. And if you say, just finish them off with melee, then what is the point? Just shoot them from a distance. The whole utility they've designed is to melee, dodge, melee, dodge, melee, dodge. If you can't do that, then there's no point in the cycle they've created with these abilities.
If you're too far away, you'll dodge without meleeing and not recharge anything. And if you're too close, you will either have to kill or be killed, or run anyways.
Supers are supers. Of course they're powerful. Arcstrider super is fine, but I'm talking about general support abilities. Heck, I'd argue you need the armor you have in super form in order to adequately fight enemies how they are now with your normal melee (to make it work). Then the super just ups the damage.
Gunslinger doesn't have any utility to the team except DPS with GG. However, with how slow you get your super (can always change with gear and other things in the full release), this doesn't seem very useful. Seriously, though, there is nothing else redeemable (team wise) about Gunslinger except GG super. Everything else only buffs reload speed (which the other classes can also do), or your throwing knife...which doesn't help the team at all.
I don't understand what they're trying to do with Hunter. With Warlock and Titan, they've developed skills that have a lot of diverse utility in both PVP and PVE. With Hunter, its subclasses are only really viable and practical for PVP.
I wish they would open up the second perk tree for GG so I can see how much damage you can actually do with it. That would make a huge difference for the PVE utility of that class. If DPS is what they're trying to gear Hunter towards, they better make the damage considerably higher than D1 levels.
But what are everyone's thoughts? This is for PVE only, not PVP. I personally think losing invisibility and not having Nightstalker (at least not officially revealed) has made Hunter lose all utility to support their fireteam in a unique and effective way in PVE.

1 ReplyIm actually really enjoying the synergy between the dodge and the melee. Just spamming punches and dodging constantly might not be very effective but its fun as hell.

18 RepliesGunslingers have no support! Except for that support ability they have...but I don't like it so it doesn't count!
