Do you prefer DC or Marvel? I made 2 posts like this before, each being about a year apart. It is that time again, so I propose this discussion.
No fanboy-ism. Just discuss the topic like a normal person.
Who am I kidding we both know that won't happen.
But include details as to why you chose the universe that you chose. Also discuss topics such as their cinematic universe, comic universe, game universe, as well as animated universe.
For me, I am a large fan of DC.
>Movies. I'm split down the middle. The MCU is great, but so is the DCEU. The DCEU had a rough start in phase 2, (BvS and SS(which I sort of enjoyed)) but with Wonder Woman having come out and Justice League coming, I think things are going to have a good turn around. Phase 3 seems to be like it will be good, fingers crossed. Ultimately, I like both Marvel and DC for this one.
And if you're wondering, the DCEU started phase 1 with the man of steel movies. The terrible things such as green lantern are not part of it.
>Comics. DC. Rebirth is great, plus they're not trying so hard to be politically correct like ANAD Marvel is. They delve deeper into back stories and their story arcs are great.
>Games. I don't think Marvel games will get as good as DC, especially with the release of Injustice 2. Although I am hoping the new Spiderman Ps4 game will be good.
>Animated Movies/Series. I'm sorry, but Marvel can't compete with what DV has created here. Flashpoint, Justice League(s), Batman, The Killing Joke, all of these animated films are arguably the best cartoons I have ever watched. I also loved how they could make the cartoons so dark, hence them being Rated R.
TL;DR
Movies. Undecided
Comics. DC.
Games. DC.
Animation. DC
Sorry Marvel :(
1 ReplyDC for the Sandman

4 RepliesMarvel because the movies are well thought out and usually further the plot and story with every scene while D.C. Often throws scenes into the movies to look cool but don't really further the plot at all. I also believe that marvel has the more interesting characters and the far better actors like RDJ, Hemsworth, Evans, and really all the heroes. Marvel does a better job of keeping humor in the movies while still being able to keep a serious tone at the right times. D.C. Is just all serious

1 ReplyFor me it's marvel and that's simply because their characters aren't gods. There's some actual differences. Almost every DC hero is super strength, flight, super speed, enhanced durability. I feel there's less of a sense of danger in their stories because there's really not much that can actually kill them. Not to mention being this above normal humans makes them much harder to relate to and often come off as one-dimensional to me. That being said I think batman and green lantern have some of the best stories I'm comics.

5 RepliesI just want to know why everyone thinks Marvel is untouchable in movies? There's hardly any effort into building characters in a single film or delivering any tension to anything. Like seriously with Spider-Man for example; Trailer: "oh no will the big bad under-developed villain kill him?" Me with a brain: well no because you all announced he has a 3 movie contract and that he's in Infinity War so why even show he's in danger. Just compare the Dark Knight trilogy against the entire marvel cinematic universe. Look at how the characters are built and developed, every scene has its purpose, absolutely nothing is wasted. Better yet, it never butchered any of its characters

6 RepliesDC. The usual argument against DC is "Marvel has more heroes, and more good heroes." That suggests the statement "quantity=quality" is true, which it is not. Yes, DC's brilliance is pretty much limited to the Batman universe, but when it's so good that everything Marvel pales... does that really matter? Batman has better story telling. Objectively. Want proof other than my say so? Ask random people how many Batman villains they can recall from memory. Now ask the same for... let's say Spiderman. You know who will win, and it's because Batman's rogues are so much more memorable, and significantly better written. Daredevil is the only thing Marvel that can compete with Batman, but pretty much just the Punisher storyline. Captain America (against Hydra/Red Skull) and the Guardians of the Galaxy come close, but not close enough. But look - one good villain for each. Compared to Batman, it's clear how weak that is.
I don't hate Marvel. It's great for lighthearted, easy watches. Batman is fantastic storytelling though, and is therefore suggestive of a clear win for DC.
One word
i hate neither
4 RepliesDc seems way too serious for my liking Whereas marvel in recent times has stepped up it's game in silliness and soundtracks Marvel-1 Dc-0

48 RepliesI was a huge Marvel fan until recently. The way they've become so politically correct under Disney has lured me away. Thor - woman now. Iron Man - black woman. Captain America - Hydra/Gay Taking characters of my childhood and destroying them. I understand wanting a more diverse group. Make someone new.
-
3 RepliesMarvel. Because Iron Man.
-
2 RepliesD.C. Batman man. He is probably one of the most well developed heroes ever.
-
9 RepliesEdited by Urks: 7/18/2017 7:53:10 PMMarvel is cliche. DC has more realistic movies. DC has Batman. The Batman movies were the greatest super hero movies ever. DC is better.

I'm just giving my opinion off the movies, personally I love marvel. I can't think of any of their movies that I haven't enjoyed. Deadpool especially hilarious and captain America winter soldier was one of the best movies I've seen. The new spider man is definitely worth a watch as well
-
Well, dc got better characters and better TV shows, and is a lot more iconic, while marvel has better movies. Idk I love both but if dc manages to step its movie game up then I'd be a dc fan.

Marvel > DC

1 ReplyI'm not well knowledgeable of the comics, so most of my knowledge of my favorite DC characters comes from movies/games. I like all of the marvel movies with Iron Man being my #1 favorite. And the only DC character universe I'm interested in is the Batman universe.
-
I kinda wish they had gone with miles morales since they appear to have taken a chunk of his story in order to reintroduce Peter Parker for what the 3rd time ? Haven't seen homecoming yet tho but i know that's probably gonna bug me

13 RepliesIn terms of movies, Marvel wins without contest. Time and time again, they've made outstanding movies that tell great stories. DC on the other hand, many recent movies of theirs are riddled with plot holes, have nonsensical stories, and improperly use the characters. In terms of TV, DC wins. Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, it's all connected now. They built up their TV universe from the ground up and tied all their individual series' together. Marvel does have Agents of SHIELD and Daredevil, but I didn't really enjoy Jessica Jones or Luke Cage and never cared enough for Iron Fist. The only reason I'll be watching Defenders is for Daredevil. Lastly, Inhumans does not look good and I'm already sick of it from Agents of SHIELD. They're trying to mount a horse they beat to death a year ago. Finally, one of the most important categories: comics. I give my vote to DC. Rebirth has been a blast so far and they introduce new characters like Batman's new sidekick Duke or Jessica Cruz as another Green Lantern. I did not give it to Marvel because rather than go back to the roots of coming greatness (the whole point of Rebirth) and make new heroes along the way, they re-wrote characters and took away the originality of them. The political correctness they've been preaching just isn't entertaining or good and they've even stated their sales have gone down because of it. In sum, DC actually wins by 2/3rds majority in my book.
-
I'm pretty sick of both, tbh. I liked FX's Legion and Deadpool. At this point, originality is all I'm looking for.
-
Why not both?
-
DC cuz batman duh
