Getting the roll you want on the gun you want can be a long process. Way too long at times. Mostly! Sometimes it just drops in your lap when you aren't even really working for it. Rarely!
But getting it... one of the things that keep long term players engaged.
Thus is the cold hard prude bitch that is RNG. Further made more prudish when the perk pool RNG draws from contains a lot of perks that are worthless. I mean seriously some folks need to Pimp Slap Backhanded for thinking up Exhumed!
At the surface, setting perks for guns with no variation seems like a good idea. Less grinding (maybe) because the RNG has been cut in half and is now down to just the gun, not its perks too. It could work out that way. Maybe.
But the only way I see this working is if you make these guns actually GOOD! If you're gonna set those damn perks, MAKE THEM WORTHWHILE!
But I think I know you better than that Bungie. You won't do that. Your head is far up "Balance for the sake of PVP!"'s bunghole there's just no way you'll make a bunch of guns worth a damn. You'll overthink it and make sure every gun is just a little bit shitty and in the process totaly bungle the whole thing.
At least with RNG, your decision making is left out, to a degree. It's chance... and in this regard, the less you try to control things, THE BETTER!
I acknowledge that I don't really know how this is going to play out until I try it. But this... I'm seriously concerned.
I hope I am proven wrong from DAY ONE.
Don't -blam!- it up Bungie!

I think since vanilla there have been too many perks, more than that thou was problem perks. We all remember shot package and the resulting nightmare it caused as primary weapons weakened. I for one look forward to an end to it. From their point of view it should be much simpler to balance a fixed set of perks instead of all the complex combinations and problems that might arise with attempting a global class adjustment. That should allow the sandbox team to be able to be more responsive to issues in theory. With this thou I believe it's time to return to VoG era weapon quality. On a scale of 1-10 I want an 11. I want my bullets going where I aim and no more ghost bullets.

Hated rng. Wasted far more time than I ever enjoyed using a god roll

23 RepliesWell, can't use the "Bungie never listens" excuse anymore. We've been begging for less rng since Y1. Now that we have it, we're begging for it back.
No wonder Bungie doesn't listen to their community, it doesn't know what it wants...
1 ReplyI -blam!-ing loved destiny so as news of Destiny 2 came through I was excited, very! Now though, with all the info revealed we have up to now I am just so disappointed 😔 this is.l not the Destiny I want to play. It seems everything I personally love about destiny is being taken away!

From what I've see you can add mods to weapons. Now I'm not sure what the mods are. Maybe the roll is always the same for the weapon but maybe people with have different mods selected. Some mods will be better than others.

1 ReplyGrinding excessively for a god roll weapon wasn't fun. You were a slave to a random number generator that could simply shrug and refuse to give you the specific weapon + perk combination you're looking for. I'm willing to give the new system a try.

18 RepliesI am loving hearing about this. It's a victory for me, because I've been inquiring about it forever. At this point, I don't care if the perks are shity, or amazing. The fact that we will supposedly have weapons with individuality, is most exciting. So it's more like halo...... ? They also did themselves a favor, easier to balance now. I believe, at the end of the day, all the weapons, will for the most part, be in line with each other in terms of functionality/effectiveness. They will obviously have situational usage. This is wonderful. It's going to be very nice to not see the same weapon with four different names and skins. It's a waste of time and data.
I also have a hunch that bungie is tired of looking like amateur scrubs.
1 ReplySo there goes me getting perks that support my play style. This whole thing with dumbing down every thing just the make the pvp try hard trials dicks happy is getting really old. Does no one at bungie have enough of a brain to balance anything with out just killing the rest of the game. This game if becoming the reject halo knock off. I don't want a halo remix. I want something new and engaging. Not another game that's only focus is PVP to try and make a buck off the e-sports fad. The more I hear the less I'm interested. Welcome to the "cheesy hamburger helper" version of halo for the PlayStation crowd.

1 ReplyEdited by dnrobs: 7/3/2017 12:30:10 PMTrouble is some people think they have to grind to much but it's nothing compared to some looters were you wait up to a year for that perfect roll. People were playing Diablo 2 10 years after the content stopped just for that perfect roll.

2 RepliesEdited by Lord Kielron: 7/2/2017 6:43:04 AMWhelp this was literally one of two remaining things that I was looking forward towards, and they once again remove something else that was the heart and soul of what this game is about, which is an RNG based Looter/Shooter. That's like telling a vampire they have to stop drinking blood..... Well that's basically the final nail in the coffin of D2..... what will finish it is if the PvE portion of the game fails to deliver. At this point, I'm honestly expecting more announcements that they did away with the lost sectors idea all together. And it wouldn't fn surprise me in the least. They have basically taken out every single fn thing that I enjoyed about D1......I just dunno.....

This. But they sure did make it easier for themselves. Too bad that won't make any difference.

While I did enjoy those hours spent going through the pacing trying to get Item-A from X Activity, I think I enjoyed Destiny far more when I played through the content I wanted and not the content that dropped a specific item. On a related note as well, this also means that there will be less situations where players will feel like the game is screwing them over by not doling out the right perk set. I think less frustrations caused by static perks will make more people happy. I know there was a lot of frustration among my friends when they would receive a weapon but not the perks they wanted. I am hopeful that they set up a system that makes each item still rewarding the 10th time it is received. This new static-perk system could easily fail if they don't make successive rewards 'rewarding' and/or they don't have an abundance of blue/purple gear.
-
No you wont be proven wrong, I mean look at whats been revealed thus far, does any of it make you hopeful D2 wont be an EXTREMELY watered down version of D1? Didnt think so.

16 Replieslol they can't win with you people. Either it's '' Wah we have to farm endlessly because Bungie inflates their game with fluff content because they have none and there is nothing to do.'' or it's '' Wah now I can't shoot some boss for sixteen hours so I can get counterbalance instead of hand laid stock.'' Hilarious. Just relax. They are moving to attachments instead of intrinsic perks.

6 RepliesI think the only way this could work is with an ABUNDANCE of legendary weapons AND a consistent relevancy to blue gear and weapons. Imagine if legendaries were like mini exotics and then exotics were the BIGGEST to do. But blues are the usual set up until you really rank up the legendary gear. I would love that bc a lot of blue gear looks rly damn cool and these A LOT of different styles compared to legendary stuff. It would be interesting @bungie

2 RepliesI was never bothered by the concept of RNG. I just waited patiently for the perfect(in my view) Arminius-d. It was 4 months until I got my first order for the weapon and the next week I got the decent focus fire one I wanted. Now it was another 13 months until I got the counterbalance one I wanted. Remember think of the time between each rerolls of the weapon. The important thing is I was never bothered by the wait, not even in the slightest. I knew I would get what I want one day and I certainly did. I guess I am a very patient person, at least people at work tell me this. Exumed is that necessary blight you need, come on, what is a loot grind, if their is no grind? Personally I would not feel right having powerful weapons after just a month or two. To put it simply, I just wanted to work for it, feel entitled. Now I use the same primary in every PvE event and some pvp. If I had achieved this status in the mere beginning of my endeavors, I would feel burned out, or I would just grind for another weapon, repeating the cycle. Grinding should be the core of your drive into the game, to know that you will give your full effort to complete your greatest desires. Incidentally, there are exotics with decent and guaranteed perks. That is the indirect purpose of exotics, to have something good to start with and then hunt for your true 'exotic'. When it comes to grinding, giving up is the only way you can lose. Uh... side note, if weapons had some guaranteed perks, it may end badly. It may ruin the flexibility of weapon choice and further force the players onto a single specific weapon. Who knows though, I certainly don't, just have to ship it first!

Im a Destiny nerd (although i havent played for a few weeks as theres nothing to do) but i play on both consoles, following the latest news i have cancelled my pre-order on the PS4, will still try on xbox but with the new gun set up, i can imagine the game getting very boring very soon. I can just see it now, come october/november me saying "thats 6 of them ive scrapped now"
-
1 Replyit is simply not possible for all guns to be shite and none of them stand out. thats exactly why we are in this mess. the formula for them now is that if a weapon like thorn becomes an issue they can tweak it without affecting that weapon pool. secondly perks need a purpose. exumed is a terrible shitty perk because it rewards you for dying and because it only procs when revived, so that vs say rangefinder, specifically for a handcannon or auto is useless. personally i hope that range and stability perks are thrown out the window for some much more interesting ideas. like id love a perk that after an auto kill the auto rifle fires a little bit quicker, or reloads lightning fast. perhaps even if the last bullet is a headshot kill it gives a portion of the magazine.

Thanks, crucible
-
So wait have they confirmed all guns will have set perks or will they e changeable if you have marks etc cause it is so not worth it to grind for a week and get a gun which you can't change.
-
If the style of guns on the demo is all we have to look forward too, then tbh im out, the recoil on them looked aweful, like wrestling a crocodile to keep them on target.
-
This is another decision that was made FOR BUNGIE, so they could balance the game Easier to nerf one gun with OP PERKS then a whoooooooole archetype
-
1 ReplyIf you wanted a "Fakebringer" Imago Loop and were a stickler for an exact copy it's a 1/2600 chance. It gets soul-crushingly ridiculous with the RNG on some stuff.
-
1 ReplyI mean they could go back to the Y1 rng system. You know where Legendarys were a pain to get to drop let alone Exotics.
-
5 Replies"But getting it... one of the things that keep long term players engaged." Wrong for me. Ive been engaged because I like the way the weapons feel, and shooting aliens. Week 1 player here.
