Stop beating PvE players to death with forced PvP.

The title if the thread pretty much sums up the content of this post. I'm an older player, and play with an older group of people. We love doing PvE content, and have for a long time. We play with our wives, and even kids at times. We enjoy getting on coms chating, laughing, ribbing one another, making fail videos, and of course progression. All that stuff is fun, and I feel this game does it well, and am sure D2 will do it well also. My problem is with forced PvP, as it is with many of the players I play with. Many mission chains end you up in a possition where you have to spend hours, and hours in PvP. IE.... Ttk exotic swords, Thorn, rank 25 faction missions ect.. ect.... Just to name a couple. This could be made even worse if you're doing a mission like Thorn and you have to get 150 kilks with void based spells, or abilities and you main a Titan for instance. You're stuck with secondary, heavy, and a nade. Lol. I'm personally not anti PvP. I got my start playing Counter Strike Beta on dail-up in 1998-1999, and since have spent 1000s of hours in various PvP situations that span almost 2 decades. PvP is just not something I enjoy anymore, and Destiny's PvP falls in the unenjoyable category. From maps, to class/subclass balance, ping, and cheaters its hard to tolerate hours of when you have to use your time wisely and split your time with things like your job, family, house, ect ect. The fix is a pretty simple one, and its been implemented in many other games with great success. Make PvP and PvE two completely separate things. Im sure there are also PvPers out there that hate raids, strikes, farming ect ect as well. So this I believe would be a two way street that would / could benefit both types of players equally in D2. Just my opinions.

  • Cool. then don't force me to do boring redundant stuff in PVE to earn things either. I couldn't even play PVP in vanilla until i played a few PVE missions. Yea, this argument is stupid. Most people enjoy both PVP and PVE. The reason the quests exist and have you play in both is to introduce you possibly to another aspect of the game you may be missing. If you don't like it, just get it over with. For the majority of people, it gives a nice break in the middle of a quest to switch things up and do something different. I am all for both existing together and playing off of each other.

Many PVPers will say: "If you don't play all the content don't expect to get anything." They are mostly right. However these quests are from PVE. These quests are acquired from PVE. Anytime a PVP NPC offered me a quest. I immediately declined it. But when PVE gives me a quest I expect to PVE it. When a PVE quest out of the blue throws me into PVP. I become quite jarred & unhappy. That said. I stopped caring. I just let the PVPers carry me & I just stayed 100% quest focused. Then I got the F out of dodge once done (Sword quest) Enemies are taking B? I go to A or C and hide and ambush the lone guns. Crests on the floor? Hide in a corner and ambush whomever runs to pick it up. (Imprecation & Jolly Holiday) Enemies at the rift/spark? I use the PVPers as cover & finish off whomever they were shooting. Quest require you to score a rift? Take the spark every single time. If someone else takes it. Don't defend them. So has a higher chance at a reset. You will eventually get a score. Gotta be creative. And as stubborn as the devs. Now I STRONGLY DISLIKE being the weak link in a team, using my "teammates" as bait or distractions, kill stealing. But I am not in the Crucible for PVP. I am on a mission. Do I dislike knowing I caused my team to lose? Yes. Do I feel bad for those who work hard every game? Yes. If they REALLY cared for their PVP quality. They would protest questslines that force those who don't PVP into PVP. They would dislike having to put up with folks who don't care about wins or losses. They would object to having folks feed the enemy team points. They would want PVP only questlines that require ONLY PVP. Alongside PVE questlines that require ONLY PVE. But most (not all) PVPers just like the easy kills PVE players are. They just hide it behind excuses of playing all content, & etc. Similar to the Streamers crying over SBMM. But that is a different topic.

    • I feel your pain. But it won't change. I'm terribad at crucible. In fact I -blam!-ing loathe it with an undying passion. Yet I still managed to grind out my exotic sword and exotic class item. I hated every moment of it. But I still wanted both items and resigned myself to suffer through both quests. You just have to go in with mentality that it's gonna suck. When you get frustrated, walk away.

    • It should work both ways. I think PVE players should have additional PVE options to complete quests instead of PVP. AND PvP players should have additional PVP options to do quests instead of PVE.

        • You know what, i'm not the best PvPer either. I'm 40 yrs old and have been gaming for around 25 yrs and PvP has never really been my strong point. Having said that, PvP in Destiny can be a lot of fun especially if you and your buddies get a group together. Take Iron Banner for example, grab some beers, get your mates and take part in this event every month it's (in my humble opinion) the best part of PvP. I'm just an average PvP player, but I try my best in every match and for the quests that I need to PvP for - they get done eventually. I play trials too, been to the light house 3 or 4 times and i'm happy with that, in actual fact when trials first came to destiny and I got to the light house and I earned those adept primaries they are worth more to me than any raid weapon because I really had to fight hard to earn those. They live happily in my vault, trophies I will never dismantle. I love Destiny, been with it since the Beta, have probably over 3000 hours by now clocked in, not sure about the PvE/PvP hours in each but PvP is as much a part of Destiny as PvE. Embrace it. Take your time with it, laugh it off if you get killed, play Iron Banner, don't expect to be the best or win all the time, have fun with it, laugh at the crappy loot drops. If you get a PvP mission just give it a go, do a bit every now and then it'll get completed eventually. Destiny has a great community for the most part and you can always find people willing to guide and teach, well from my experience on Xbox anyway. So from one older player to another - see you in the crucible!

          • How would you feel about some exotic weapons and armour only being exclusively available in crucible? It's a 2 way street, and on the whole the game forces far more pve down your throat than pvp.

            • It goes both ways dude, there's people out there who think PvE is boring as hell and would rather not play it if they didn't have to in order to get everything they want out of the game, but they are "forced" to play PvE just like you're "forced" to play PvP to get whatever you want to get. I don't think we should be talking about PvE or PvP as if either one is more important than the other.

            • PvP is part of the game. It was put into the game. Just because you don't enjoy that aspect of the game doesn't mean you shouldn't have to do it. Same goes for pvp players who don't like strikes. There is no "pvp side" or "pve side" of the game. It's all one game. I like raids. If I don't like raids, Am I going to complain how outbreak prime quest forces me to do raid? No.

                  • Unless the quest is specifically tied to a Raid or PvP activity, then it should always have PvE or PvP options.

                    • While I understand what your saying, I don't think BUNGIE totally ignores the facts. They DO want people to play every aspect of their game. After all, they did put countless hours into it. But while that may be true, they do understand that certain parts of the game are enjoyed by most or very few. Let's take trials for example. With the crucible quartermaster bounties you no longer, or in some cases ever, have to step into a trials match to get trials weapons. Even though people have voiced the damage done to weapons via nerfs and tweeks because of PvP, there is still a decent percentage of players who do both even though they prefer one over the other. Pve in this game has become repetitive. And everyone knows how to down a boss quick, or rush through a strike, or even collect materials quickly if needed. I don't fault them for making players jump into PVP for a section of an exotic quest. Players are unpredictable, not pre programed, and make it harder to achieve. The BIGGEST problem is the fact that they can't seem to clean up PvP to make it playable to the standards of the players. When good PvP players have to work hard for these quests around red bars, ghost rounds, teleporters and lag in general, it is not "working as intended". It's even more frustrating for lesser skilled players and then here lies the argument....

Yeah totally, and while we're at it, why do I have to play a raid to get raid weapons? Bungie, stop forcing us PvP players to play PvE.

                          • Your asking for the game developer to help you avoid content they spent time and money developing, content they want you to devote time to. Furthermore, your request is asking for the games progression system cater to you specifically.

                            • Those exotic weapons have exotic quests they are supposed to be hard and really challenging for some. Your only forced to get that gun because you want it. Not because the game won't let you progress without. And what do you say to the pvp only players then ? Here's a different quest for the same gun that most likely would break lore. Imagine having shaxx pvp quest for the Sleeper and having him make it and getting the lore and story behind that. Then having your friend do the pve quest for banshee and getting Rasputins help making the sleeper while getting the lore and backstory. The game wouldn't even make sense and if you think bungie could make the quest basically the same just put it in pvp mode that's just silly.

                              • Sorry you have this experience. I love those quests. I personally feel you should have to venture to every corner of the game to get all of the loot it offers. I assume from your story that you don't play Trials and I assume you had just made piece with not getting those weapons/armor pieces. Why not do the same with quests like this? I just personally think those quests are fantastic and a way to get people into new parts of the game. I never played crucible until I got the Thorn bounty.

                                • Totally and unashamably agree. PvE players should not be corralled into PVP activities to complete quests, book progression and story line. Like you I've nothing against PvP or the players who do enjoy it but it should be a choice not a requirement to participate.

Really proves how immature some of the PvP players are and why PvE players do not want to enter that gametype. Here's a thought: perhaps it is you wonderful people who need to grow some, considering that OP is willing to come forth with this feedback and provide an alternative to what was previously done? Perhaps you can all pull your heads out and try to be supportive of the idea, suggest one or two things and generally suggest ways to expand and improve on the idea so that way even your insignificant PvP can benefit from the proposed changes? It's not that hard.

As a fellow "old" gamer, I really don't see the problem. If someone wants literally everything the game has to offer, guess what? They are going to have to play everything in the game. You're a little too old to be wanting participation trophies. Nobody should stay in their little silo forever, that's lame and boring. Get out of your goddamn comfort zone for 5 seconds, maybe you'll like it. If you don't, fine, you challenged yourself to do something you didn't like because you wanted a reward. You earned it.
