I honestly dont see how preordering hurts the industry that much. People who preorder the game are going to buy the game regardless of if they had the pre-order option available or not. And its not like pre-order number gives gaming developers an idea whether they have to produce a better game or not. D2 preorders began at the end of march, with a little more than 5 months until the game launches. That means the game has to be at around 90% complete. Do you think publishers/developers are looking at pre order numbers trying to decide if they need to make a better game or not?
The game is pretty much finished and its going to launch the same wether you pre order it or not.
At least now a days we get betas for most AAA titles so that we can try the game out before we buy them, that alone has saved me MASSIVE amounts of money. i cant tell you how many games in recent years I have been excited for but then decided to not get them because I wasn't a fan of the Beta.
