I think there have been spots where they've improved things, but I think that way more often than not, they've swung and missed on the balance changes. As pissed off as everyone seemed to be at the last meta, I honestly think people hate this new one even more and 3 years in, it's beyond troubling that this is where we are at.
Honestly I think the closest they ever came was 1.1.1 which made exotics relevant and would have been perfect except for the ridiculous AR nerf. Since then it's been a constant de-evolution as each change to the ecosystem throws something else out of whack.
I'm hoping D2 is not the constant tinkering and they have a solid gameplan and everything well tested, we'll find out I guess.
-
No. Not even close. And I see no reason to believe D2 will be any different. My hope is... that changes which need to be made in Destiny2 will happen in days or weeks rather than D1's months or years. That "season's" of weapons was just propaganda-speak covering up the fact that they (Bungie) continually hit the snooze button. Inaction, empowered the squeaky wheels to clamour for more and more oil. Additionally, this forum allows way too much leeway in its users commentary. Toxic salt. Good name for a band, like Most Eisley during happy hour. You do the math. PVP ain't been pretty.

2 RepliesBest time was year 1 when guns were broken
-
They had been close in the past, but they could never pull the trigger on the correct way to change something, and made things progressively worse as time went on. So I'm going to have to say No

10 RepliesEdited by SINECURE53: 5/9/2017 1:32:16 AMAlmost. I feel this meta is good. A small change to special ammo economy and a slight decrease to sticky nade magnetism and things would be fantastic.
or remove sticky nades alltogether..they are such a cheap tactic
-
No. Plain amd simple.
-
2 RepliesThere is a way to balance it, make all weapons have the same time to kill, at least for primaries.
-
2 RepliesI'm gonna preface this by saying I hated thorn/tlw meta. As far as people not liking the meta 3 years in, that isn't that rare. The same kinda thing happens in mobas ALL the time and they are older than destiny. The same can be said about Hearthstone. Three years in to Hearthstone came debatebly the worst meta that game has ever seen
-
I typically use only primaries in PVP. I think the first meta was best for primaries .. minus Suros and Vex. I think this current meta had almost, almost got the primaries where they need to be. I feel I can get consistent kills with autos, scouts, hand cannons, and pulse rifles. This is all my opinion though. I have no thoughts on special.
-
Nerfing fusions lol
-
You know it's been tinkered with too much when weapons that were once laughed at are now considered OP
-
3 RepliesSometime near the end of year one. It was the one where pulse rifles got a huge buff. Red death was actually really good. Fusion rifles weren't completely nerfed yet. Hand cannons were still amazing. Scouts and autos were very meh at this point, but oh well.
-
Edited by BERSEKAEL: 5/9/2017 6:03:27 PMNothing right, there is always a broke buff or glitch to exploid. Every game needs twitches, but destiny comes out with patches way too late, thorn lasted 8 months, fusion grenades above 2 years and so on... right now sticky grenades and axion bolts are the new meta
-
Probably rn. Other than special changes. I.dont see a problem with primaries. Its a special and fusion grenade meta rn.
-
Thorn/Felwinters meta, bona material right there!
-
2 Repliesi still think vanilla was the best. vex was pretty strong but since its a raid exotic i didnt rly mind. after all, you should get a good reward for the endgame content. and even then, my red death for example was able to 2 burst anything so there actually were counters. the few things that needed to happen back then: slighty buff handcannons. slightly buff scouts and slightly buff high rate of fire weapons. thats all imo. the only 2 nerfs i feel were deserved were the first bladedancer nerf and the first sunbreaker nerf. everything else was just crying for absolutly no reason.
-
4 RepliesThere will always be a meta, and no matter what it is, it wont make everyone happy. These posts are annoying.
-
I believe Bungie changes things up for at least 3 reasons: 1- To correct for an unexpectedly OP weapon or piece of gear. 2- To extend the grind, change things up or simply get people into activities they wouldn't play otherwise. 3- To please the snowflake streamers/tubers.
-
I can understand the idea they seem to have that a churn of what is op and what is not always keeps people playing and rotating weapons. The problem is that each time they switch the meta, the do so in such a way that absolutely destroys weapons instead of marginal changes to slightly improve or decrease the weapons ability. its all or nothing with bungie. Let us hope that with 3 years of data under their belts that they have a solid game plan and that they don't go screwing around with it because of the twitch/youtube crowd, or the end game pvp players. DATA.. use it and only it, not feelings, not what they like or don't but, concrete quantifiable data.
-
1 ReplyI enjoyed the Thorn meta. Just sayin'.
-
3 RepliesThe first problem is that there is an assumption being made made that Destiny could ever truly be balanced.
It can't
What Bungie has been doing over time is changing the Meta to try and keeps things fresh and interesting but the foundation for Destiny's original crucible is not stable enough for true balance. Some changes have been good and some changes have been bad, but at the end of the day, Bungie continues to support a game that is 3 years old.
-
Haha hell no.
-
Yes because they need data data data on all the different weapons and d1 was just a big test game haha.
-
If the weapons were balanced.... there would be no Meta.
-
1 ReplyEdited by pixelmagic: 5/9/2017 1:03:58 PMNo they haven't got it right so far in my opinion. The game isn't balanced if theres a meta involved. Until no single weapon/archetype stands above others, the game will remain unbalanced. The constant complaints that you read on here are usually from person X having a whinge that the current meta doesn't suit them. That and a balanced game are not the same thing. Unless abilities, perks, ranges and impacts are null and void in the crucible, and everyone uses the same weapon set each match, some combination will always work better than the rest, thus creating a meta and throwing everything else out. As long as that happens someone will always complain, and while they complain the game will always be tweaked, creating something else that stands out by default. The question is: do you want a fair and balanced PVP where the ability of the player counts? or do you want a game where your favourite weapons are better than everyone elses? We currently have the latter, and the weapon of choice will always shift in a constant circle. It will NEVER suit everyone, and never be 'balanced'.

5 RepliesI had the most fun during the HoW Pulse rifle meta. Every gun I used worked. Pulse, scout, handcannons, snipers, fusion, shotguns.. Auto were still broke as hell but the med ones like Monte Carlo and such we're still decent. Despite it being the rise of Trials and 2tap Thorn, every gun could beat the other. Shotguns had cray range, but you could easily stop them with a pulse or handcannon before they got to close. Hopscotch and Messenger we're amazing.. vanguard was selling a godly 55-Allfate..Red Death was... Deadly. I had the most fun and I clocked in the most time in PvP during that time. I trickled off greatly once TTK released and pretty much only played PvP for quests or bounties/IB. RoI, I rarely played it. Once the shotgun nerf changed Handcannons back to Y1 style, I played PvP a whole lot more. Then the AoT update came out and I just haven't been able to get in PvP any longer. I just hate the "meta" and I hate that nearly all my fav handcannons are useless since they don't have Rifled and Rangefinder. :/ Now I only play PvP once a week for the AoT box.

2 RepliesHonestly this is the closest they've come I think. I really enjoyed the Thorn/Last Word/Felwinter's meta as far as Trials goes..but hand cannons are my favourite. It wasn't that balanced. And I didn't like the strength of shotguns, but that's the tradeoff I guess. I think rerolling allowed people to get top tier guns quicker, so you could focus on playing those competitive matches rather than searching for guns. But everybody was running the same stuff...so it was more of a bore. This one seems to have the most variety. Too many side arms though..as well as Ice Breaker. I feel most people pass on other snipers now because of it. As much as I like less special being around, I think those guns make it broken.
