Why is the Crucible so horrendously unbalanced recently?

Not to sound like a spinfoil hatter, but for real. I don't believe Bungie is conspiring to boost streamers or well known players as other people seem to think. But... The join in progresses are absolutely out of hand. Getting thrown in at the rewards screen for an immediate loss and a 0 k/d or just long enough to get pubstomped for a minute by a coordinated fireteam. Dominating 3 Rumble or 3v3 matches in a row only to get punished for the next 5 matches getting destroyed by latency and joining late. Getting the jump on someone landing all headshots only for them to do a 180 and melt you in the blink of an eye with a scout rifle. Is there something Bungie royally screwed up with the damage referee and 50/50 win loss ratio? After playing Destiny for multiple hours today, I refuse to believe that the simple "latency" answer is sufficient. It feels something more is at play. It makes no sense to crush in one match and then just get destroyed in the next match with the same lobby. Some matches you can just skate around and annihilate everyone and the next match you can barely manage to win engagements and when you do you still barely survive. At one point I lost a 1v1 when I had a machine gun and the other guy had a shitty pulse rifle and I was literally only landing headshots. Which makes me skeptical as to my own "improved skill level"...is this the BS my opponents experience when I'm shitting on them and think I'm doing solid? Am I the only one experiencing this heightened bullshit these past 2ish weeks? If this is what a lot of the player base is experiencing in standard playlists, what does this mean for D2? I mean, you can't expect people to purchase D2 if you have no intention of sorting this out or getting dedicated servers. When the D2 hype dies down and the player base dwindles again, is this the PvP experience that we will be left with again? D2 PvE had better be amazing lol. Yes, I'm salty and yes, I'm trying hard to "git gud", but it's hard af for a casual who doesn't run in a fireteam in this environment. Not to mention trying to get stats up. Getting my negative to a 1.05 after months of trying just to have it go down by .03 in a couple weeks.

  • You realize that being thrown in at the end doesn't give you a "0 Kd" that negatively affects your overall one? If you didn't die or get a kill then nothing changes...

    • I believe the PvP player pool is at the lowest point it has ever been in this game's history. That is why the Crucible is awful now. [spoiler]Well, more awful than normal that is.[/spoiler]

    • It seemed to have improved over the holiday season, but since the last patch/special ammo nerf, matchmaking is uneven and games are less frenetic & aggressive.

    • Lol @ recently... I'll put it in the simplest way I can. The PvP community will always find the easiest and cheesiest way to kill the opponent, they care very little about being an honorable player. If it's hiding in a corner to charge a grenade in order to stick you, that's what they will do, if using a sidearm (which was so incredibly absent from play until the shotgun nerf) is the quickest way to kill you then that is what they will use. No different than the teams that would skorri camp. If there's a way to kick a player from the opposing team and not get banned, that's what they will do. Oh and they will call you trash and tell you to get good because you elected to play the game with out seeking the cheesiest way to do it. So, in short PvP had always been and will always be a cesspool of egos and cheesy players.

        • It's called Crucible RNG & Yes they changed the play. I can have a Pulse that's killin for 2-3 games then next game it shooting Blanks........ Change to a Scout & it's a Killin machine for a few games then Nothing....... Switch to a different Primary, Killin machine again.

          • One thing I have noticed is that the matches are almost always really bad. I can play all day and get in 1 or 2 matches that are actually close. Mercy rule barely ever kicks in any more no matter how bad the match is.

            • Welcome to CBMM and reduced player numbers. Before SBMM got nerfed, I used to be in lobbies that were filled (top to bottom) with people decked out in Trials gear....and the level of compeititon was pretty consistent. Now---on the rare occasions that I still play----I'll get wrecked on match....and the next three matches it'll be like the people don't have thumbs while I rack up KDs of 2-3 + What it means for D2, is that the game needs dedicated servers, so that the gaming experience is more consistent.

              • I just played a match where everyone was so oblivious to everything. I used my Bubble in a Rumble match and there was this sniper watching me at close-range and there were guys getting downed behind him, then someone stuck him with a grenade. It feels like a noob slaughter fest all over again.

                • I think the damage referee doesn't work as intended. It makes no sense why in one game you can crush and the next game the team barely takes damage. I can accept being out played but a team not taking damage irritates the crap out of me.

                  • Tldr but the crucible does seem unbalanced recently. I value wins over all else (I'm one of THOSE guys). Lately if I don't go Best Around, I'm probably not winning. Worse than that, my On The Bright Side medals have been growing. QQ

                      • yup, this matchmaking does and has felt this way for about a year maybe more. You are put in matches to win or to loose and there seem to be mechanics to it, pile on the data manipulators and lag and you have a perfect way for bungie to manipulate games and who plays who for specific outcomes. Can you win against those odds, sure sometimes, but, more often than not it feels like you were put in a match to either win or to loose it and bungie lends a hand in order fo ryou to accmplish that set goal.

                      • An unfortunate side effect of matchmaking algorithms not being able to account for [b]all[/b] variables. For instance, and most importantly, consistency of player ability. It can't make up for or predict when you are playing better or worse. It can only react based on wins an losses accrued. Honestly speaking, if the system works solely on keeping you at 50 percent win loss ratio by any means then it is a crap algorithm. If it is simply 50/50 because of the other components ultimately throw you into fair matches then it's fine. Even if it starts to become stupid match were it swings in the favor of one team. Another thing that should be done with these algorithms is factor in loss streaks, thanks to how matchmaking eventually becomes horribly lopsided. It should be able to detect that and immediately try and resolve them by matching you against others experiencing the same thing.

                        • Unbalanced? Yesterday I get a lobby slugs and close a game with a 10.0 KD. Then preceded to close out my day with 3 games sub 1.0. Yeah, what matchmaking.

                        • I don't really care what the reason is, whether it's completely stacking a match against me, or literally placing me into a game where the enemy team has a connection advantage, it's engineered. At this point it's so predictable. I made the mistake of having a breakout game night before last, scoring a 4.2 K/D. One of the guys who I play with, who isn't very good, suggested that we go ahead and back out because he knew that we were going to get screwed for the rest of the night. The next few matches were not only stompings, but filled with terrible gameplay... A lot of people will think "poor me" when the matchmaking system engineers a defeat, but I think something slightly different... what does this say about my victories?
