Remove Three of Coins in Destiny 2

Sound off in the comments, as I would like to see what the community thinks about this. For me, ToC has ruined any excitement I used to get out of getting an Exotic drop. After TTK, Exotics stopped feeling rare and elusive and they now just feel like glorified legendaries. I understand that ToC was made to counter frustrating RNG, and I'm not defending the loot system in year 1. But if you think about it, Exotics aren't really hard to get even if you take ToC out of the game. Let's think here. You can get Exotics from Nightfalls, Raid encounters/chests, the Trials Lighthouse chest, Legendary engrams, Xur, and Exotic quests. I probably forgot some but you get my point. Edit: I didn't get a chance to finish the post since I had to go to class, so I'll finish this. If we did not have ToC, then Exotics would feel more Exotic, but they also wouldn't be unreasonably elusive. Edit 2: I'm not saying we should go back to the loot system in year 1, I'm saying we should get rid of ToC. Edit 3: nigel_the_mole actually proposed a pretty good idea. He said this:
Well, there are two kinds of exotics: 1. Those that only come from 1 source (eq, a quest line, or raid drop), and, 2. Exotics that can drop from many sources (e.g., chests, RNG, 3ofC, Xur, etc). I'll agree that 3ofC had devalued the second pool. There were very few, if any, I got originally from 3ofC. (Had all the Exotics prior to 3ofC release, and can only specifically recall 1 of the newer ones from 3ofC. Possibly a few more, but not many.) 3ofCs basically was first a road to max light, then a shard factory, then a "why even bother." But group 1 I actively pursued. I'd say, for D2, I'd like to see the first group be much bigger. More quest Exotics. More "achievement" Exotics. Fewer in the second group. I realize this makes for essentially two classes of exotics (the "hard" ones vs the "easy" ones), but this division already exists. But it allows casual players to get some without having to do specific efforts, and the better stuff to be a bit more effort to achieve. TL;DR - more exotics from quests or specific points in raids.
• I'd agree with ditching 3oCs if you never got duplicates.

  • Using 3oC does not guarantee an exotic, and even when you do get an exotic, 8 times outta 10 for me, it becomes a shard or I use it to infuse into something else.... Nothing is wrong with 3oC. Exotic is used to mean that it's a weapon or armor piece with a perk or two that you cant get in a legendary, rare or common, hence "Exotic" It does not mean rare....

Exotics were never rare. They are not called 'Exotic' because of their rarity. They are called 'Exotic' because of their unique attributes. 3 of Coins are fine.

        • They shouldn't nerf exotics so hard if they wanted them to feel "exotic". Three of Coins doesn't guarantee you an exotic, anyways, and so, I don't care if they stay or go. If they want to remove, then buff the drop rate for them, because I have only ever gotten 1 exotic engram without a Three of Coins being used and that was from a Splicer Shank. :-/

3oC has no place in the Destiny universe. There is a huge problem when I am able to acquire more Exotic weapons than Legendaries in a week. Some of you may say "Exotics aren't rare" but in this context, they are. Much like how Legendary doesn't mean what it's describing; Legendary weapons implies weapons that have history behind them, weapons that are recognized for the service in which they've been used, but if I can buy Legendary weapons at a Vendor, they're not so legendary, are they? Exotic weapons need to be rare because they provide unique perks, perks so extravagant that you can only equip one at a time, and these perks need to be absolutely appealing, not recycled perks that legendary weapons have. By the logic that Destiny one follows, an Exotic weapon has something that Legendary weapons have, only slightly better; a great legendary weapon (great being an exceptional combination of perks) can be considered an Exotic weapon - the Adept Fatebringer is a testament to that, as well as the Black Spindle. They need to be rare to the point of almost impossible to obtain, because currently, Exotics are nothing more than an inconvenience in loadout. They don't stick out as weapons that I am willing to compromise to be able to use this weapon. They serve only a mild hindrance to my loadout because I have weapons that are better than Exotic weapons, despite the lack of the unique perk that Exotics have to offer.

        • What bungie needs to do is make the exotic drop rate super slim but drop from any source and as well make raid weapons exotic with burns and no burn legendary versions in D2.

Agree. Getting exotics to randomly drop made the game fun. ToC's are dumb but implementing them after Y2? Sure.

          • ToC are fine, the problem is an exotic 90% of the time are relatively lame, with many just barely a cut above certain legendaries. In my opinion, the only thing most exotics are good for is factioning up to increase light, but since the last update, no light increase, they are almost worthless, so who cares? It's not the ToC, it's the exotics that aren't really all that "exotic" anymore, after all the nerfing, I mainly run legendaries these days. In D2, exotics should be decidely better than any legendary and only available through some type of task or quest. As it is, with nearly everyone who has been playing for a month is 380 or above and has whatever they need in D1. Far as I am concerned D1 is just a time waster until D2 shows up, and if D1 is any indication - it won't matter to bungie what any of us think anyway.

          • Keep 3oC. Why remove them if bungle has made it a point to destroy all exotics. Other then dark drinker none are worth the time to use since there's way to many legendary options that are much better.

            • Nope don't agree with Op. I was a year one player, missed out on xurning the Gally. Also had the worst luck in the game for getting exotics. I didn't get a gally till the end of year 1. Do you know how annoying it is to hear and see snowflakes get Rng drops. Lol raids were so fun because people would blame you for not doing enough dps.

I agree that ToC shouldn't be a thing. Fix the drop rate to whatever it should be... having to buy and spend a goofy buff is just nonsensical. However, ToC is not the reason exotics don't feel exotic. The constant nerfs is why exotics aren't exotic-feeling anymore. The exotic perks aren't "exotic" enough, in most cases.

              • On the fence about this. I do agree that exotic drops have lost their luster, but there are still a few things that I do not have. The exotic drops with ToC did help me get to 400, those drops usually came above what my current level was so it wasn't so much about the actual exotic that dropped rather using it as infusing fuel. That really was a bad move by bungie, you should not be using exotic items to level other things up. Year 1, especially early year 1, I had no idea how to earn strange coins so when Xur came around I was SOL and thus had very few exotics. When ToC came around it was a nice welcome addition. What really chaps my hide is when you get something that is for a different character. If I am running my Warlock then I want Warlock stuff, such a bummer to get something for a different character. Feels like a waste when this happens.

              • I'm a filthy casual scrub that should "git gud", and politely disagree with you. If they were so good at getting people exotics, I'd have a load more than I do. And I'm guessing that of the 9 million or so (registered) players of Destiny probably don't have a lot either. As others have said, don't use them.

                  • Getting rid of ToC is basically asking to go back to the loot system of Year One for exotics. Because---once you do that----the only activities that have any inherent chance of dropping exotics are: The Lighthouse Chest, Raid chests, Nightfall strikes, and Shaxx Crucible bounties. All of which have MAJOR barriers to participation. Which---given the integral role that exotics now play in the game's progression system, and granting new powers to our Guardians----that is unacceptable.

                    • I'm fine with 3 of coins; keep it or take, it doesn't matter to me. Exotics, are exotics. They're not meant to be difficult or rare to obtain; they're meant to have an exotic perk that the players may find desirable to use.

I'm going to say no. The reason is because this makes exotics "exotic" by making them super rare. I would rather have them make exotics "exotic" by making the lackluster ones better. I.e. Gjallarhorn's exotic perk makes it stand out while invective is just a bad version of the icebreaker perk.
Not hating on Invective as it is one of my favorite guns, just saying it doesn't really stand out much from legendary shotguns.
