So I'm a bit of a gun nut IRL. US Army, spent a whole lot of time tinkering and toying with many a firearm and learning how they work on a mechanical level.
This game annoys me with most of its weapon designs. And it pisses me off because Bungie is usually really good about designing their weapons so that they logically work in some reality. Take almost any UNSC weapon from the Halo Games pre-343 for an example; they operate on real world logic and mechanics.
Like the UNSC MA5B Assault Rifle was basically an oversized FN F2000 that swallowed an AK-47 and had some fancy tech and a huge magazine strapped to it. Just looking at the thing, a skilled gunsmith could absolutely build a real-life, completely functional version of the weapon if they wanted to.
Destiny's weaponry for the most part looks like it was designed by a middle schooler that has no idea how guns work other than they have magazines loaded with bullets and go "bangity-bangity".
For example; hand cannons. According to a booklet that came with the collectors edition, they fire a 40mm to 40.8mm polymer round. I spent more time on Google than I'd like to admit trying to figure out what in the hell that is. All you see a bolt of kinetic energy that exits the barrel (which on some models isn't even lined up with the cylinder -- like wtf, guys?) And one big cartridge with a single primer exit the cylinder upon reloading.
One primer, but the things fires up to 13 rounds. I'd be willing to accept "space magic" as an explanation if it was in the actual game, but it's not. Oh, and most of the time the cylinder rotates for no reason, because there's only one primer for the firing pin to hit.
Oh, and how in the hell does Thorn fire a railroad spike from a cartridge the size of a D battery? No, seriously. Go shoot that thing at a wall and see what sticks out of it. It's weird.
Then you have Scout Rifles, which look like they were designed so that the magazine looks like a battery that belongs to your dad's old power drill that's slapped into the bottom of the hand grip, miles away from where the firing mechanisms would be. How the hell do the bullets get from there to the bolt carrier if there's no possible way for them to get there based on some of these designs?
And let me rant real quick about Omalon guns; what do they fire? Ferrofluid? Space juice? Halo fans' tears? I really wanna know!
I would seriously wish Bungie addressed some of this in the lore in a much more detailed manner.

Mercury became a garden world. I'll let the guns work their own logic.

1 ReplyYou answered your self. Space magic. Don't over think. But the omolon bullets. https://laughingsquid.com/the-backyard-scientist-fires-liquid-sodium-filled-bullets-at-watermelon-with-explosive-results/ Comes standard with firefly.

2 RepliesIll explain them all for you in 2 words. Science fiction.
-
2 RepliesIf this game was a realistic game I could see your argument but it isn't....
-
1 ReplyLmfao it's a game! Hahahahahhahaha
-
1 ReplyYou think that's infuriating? Look at Borderlands' elemental guns, specifically at the SMG's.
-
1 ReplyAlso, you find these guns confusing, and not Halo's Promethean tech?

Edited by Smough: 4/4/2017 7:48:24 PMGuns in a futuristic video game don't work like guns in real life? Damn, who knew.
-
Edited by GalaxySpider: 4/4/2017 7:46:19 PMHalo was a pure Sci-Fi shooter. A franchise pretty unique within Bungies history. Destiny is heavily influenced by Bungies past design lines. They made quite a few games with fantasy elements. And Destiny is just one of them. Even magic exists in Destiny (most noticeable the so called "light" and the "darkness" + everything what was build around it). So therefore the guns don't have to make sense. Nobody knows what kind of ammo the most guns use. Not to mention there are elemental guns. Ever seen a real gun shooting "Void"?

1 ReplyThe last words animation has you fan the hammer like it's a single action but pulling down the trigger halfway shows the hammer move by itself like a double action revolver. After finding this out in game it made me feel less like a slick space cowboy and more like a dude who just picked up a hand cannon and has no clue how to use it

3 RepliesEdited by Da11asfan82: 4/4/2017 6:25:29 PMGr8 bait.. And what about super abilities then if your worried bout guns. Never seen someone pull a bubble out their ass in real life, maybe you have. Or never seen someone shoot blue globes out their hands either. Or as im walking down the street never been tethered by another person walking. Cmon if this isnt bait then your over thinking waaaay too much over a virtual non realistic sci fi fantasy game. P.S. I did however come across a guy who shot flaming orbs from his hand and then proceded to sword everyone in his path but then he glitched out n all pedestrians in the area were caused to wipe.

Edited by bFLY: 4/4/2017 7:11:58 PMIt's a videogame lol funny though

Omolon guns I figured fired highly focused rounds of energy.

You are playing Destiny. Not, Gun Sim 4. That is all.

This gave me a good laugh :)

5 RepliesHow exactly is a rainbow made? How exactly does the sun set? How exactly does the posi-trac rear end on a Plymouth work? It just does.

It's like you're trying to make sense out of fallout weapons. It is just a game. Although Gg on the information.

1 ReplyThe thing is... this is a Sci-Fi fantasy. Ghosts reviving dead people = Ok Ancient Gods being brought to their knees in their own realms = Ok Guardians channeling "light" intro devastating abilities = Ok Guns don't operate with real world functionality = Blasphemy!!!
-
Bro it's SPACE MAGIC, how does a warlock shoot electric out of its hands?! Oh that's so unrealistic! Bungo shall be fired!
-
Can you imagine how stupid it'd be if video games were actually realistic?
-
3 RepliesI think the problem here is you are trying to find realism in a fantasy game.
-
Space juice.... LMFAO.
-
1 ReplyFor thorn, being a hive weapon and all, what if the bullet morphs into a spike as it's fired?
-
U do realize that this is science FICTION right? And also the Golden Age brought new technology that allowed lots of new stuff to be made that wasn't before possible
Mind Blown
-
You know? I've often wondered about the technology that goes into Destiny's weaponry myself... Especially those HC barrels that don't line up with the cylinder, 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 Oh well😁 must be SPACE MAGIC! 🙃🙃👽
