Until last night I was you, so I get it. I've never been much of a raider and I was always concerned that my low light, lack of good gear or experience would hold the team back. But something happened last night that changed my mind. Story time:
Necrocasm was the gun I was most excited for with age of triumph and I was super disappointed that it was locked behind the 390 CE raid. Last night I put a post up on lfg explaining that I was a novice raider but I was really willing to listen and learn from others. Got picked up surprisingly quick by an experienced raider that was willing to show me the ropes. StillI was still super nervous loading in.
I straight up explained to everyone that I'm not the best raider and that I'd really appreciate someone explaining the best strategy for each encounter. I already knew how they worked from YouTube and the one yr1 normal run I had done, but I thought it was worth stating as I was rust as hell.
Thing is I feel like it made the team better. Everyone was super understanding and the fact that the strategy was explained before each encounter made sure everyone knew their roles and what to do. Before each encounter we were all on the same page and the run went by really smoothly. Sure we wiped a couple of times but we stopped and assessed where we went wrong each time, thus we got better as a team as we went.
Soon enough we had cleared all the challenge modes and downed crota. All in all it was one of the funniest experiences I have had playing destiny and as we all exchanged friend requests and the team broke up I found myself wondering - why did I wait this long to do this.
Even now I'm not really sure why I feel so compelled to write this giant post. But for anyone on the fence that reads this get in there and give it a crack. Sure you may not get a great group first go, but when you do it's so worth it. At the very least your gaining experience along the way. Its worth it!!!!
Walks off to shoot sh1t with my shiny new necrocasm.
TLDR: bite the bullet, dive in, its so rewarding. I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner.
EDIT 1: not really sure why I thought necrocasm wasn't going to be tied to the raid. I just figure it was going to be more of a yr3 gjhallarhorn/ thorn like quest. It's worth the effort to get it though.
EDIT 2: WooHoo!!!! Just cleared WoTM for the first time and got genesis chain. Exploding auto rifles everywhere!!!!!

I'm glad you found a team. I remember when I used to only work 8 months out of the year and helped so many people with this raid when I was laid off the other 4. If you look at my grimoire for this raid you'd see I have 400+. 100+ are from a deleted hunter. Anywho.. I don't see why more people don't help.. I know the people like you appreciate it more than most can imagine.
I've helped 400 in crota, 300 for spindle and 50 for flawless to name some things.. Even though I helped so many and didn't stream my accomplishments, I loved it. I can bet almost all of those guardians don't remember me. But your reactions won't be forgotten.
Everybody needs somebody.

10 RepliesAll I want is Word of Crota

Finally had a chance to play since the release. Ran crota earlier today. Not much of a challenge really. I got a shit ton of rewards too. These are all from one run. -three ornaments - adept word of crota(exotic) - adept crota pulse rifle(exotic) - light of the abyss (fusion rifle and personal favorite) - hunger of crota (rocket launcher) - fang of ur yût (non-adept) - bone circuit (warlock class item) -knuckles of Eao (didn't get to use them, went to postmaster. Would have gotten even more if I used them) -2 emblems I didn't get any armor though. Which is why I did t to begin with. Still, that's an unusual amount of loot I think.

1 ReplyWhat do you think that Bungie didn't keep the Nacrocasm and allow it to be upgraded to be usable after people like me grind so hard for it? I have got three of them all from Husk of the Pit, legendary, then getting Crox for them. I had one of each on every character before there were apps that let you move stuff without going to the tower, Fang of Ir yu, Black Hammer, Fate Bringer, Vex Mythoclast, you name it. Then one day Bungie decided we would take away your fun and you suckers needed to grind for new things that were not even fun to use. Look at the history of Hawksaw, Mida, Last Word, Clever Dragon, Grasp of Malok, Doctorine of Passing. Either there were 9 out of ten people using the same gun in one match, or spent hours killing Omnigal for a good roll or grind for a key to either getting a shitty roll or an artifact instead. I could never get understand Bungie's mentality - waste time to make things less interesting/fun to use because those who got them like to use them and those have not got them complaining they are too OP! Now, you are asking me if I am hesitant to join a raid?
-
1 ReplyI'm still a baby at getting raid teams and joining raids. Sometimes it's weird because, I'm a veteran guardian, but have only done little bits of Crota, VoG, WotM (I have completed all challenge modes on KF tho). I think it's mostly because I don't like talking on headsets :3.

1 Replywhat light were you when you did it first?

I am glad you had a great experience and glad you posted a nice comment n the forums

For those reading I never use LFG. I actually find the Bungie app a great place to find a team for any encounter. Just a thought.

I was the same way up til about 6 weeks ago and determined to raid more. I've met slot of great raiders as a result and was more eager to jump in right away on Crota. I've also completed my challenges. If you are hesitant don't wait. Trust me it's worth the effort and it's lots of fun. Great post OP. Keep up the raiding.

4 RepliesCongrats!! I haven't had any luck with anyone picking up on my LFG posts. Was completely in the same boat as you

Honesty helps a lot. It's way better than pretending to know what to do then committing some obvious mistake that tips everyone off. Even worse is continuing the facade. That being said, I feel like a lot of people are afraid to speak up because of elitism and getting booted. Most LFG and Recruitment posts are "must have experience" posts, and I myself stayed away from yr one raids partially because it was hard to find a team that would keep you and teach you. It was all "max gally" and checking for gear and stuff. I made it a point when I became a KF raider to try to guide/sherpa anyone new. It was actually cool to help people out. And I remembered what it felt like for people to decide whether or not to kick you because you'd only made it up to templar. Newbs gotta be honest, but vets gotta be willing to take on and teach a couple newbs too. Not every single run needs to be a "emblem, max gally, ornaments, max grimoire, 8000 Elo quick run". (By the way, who wants a "sorta slow run"? I would think most people would like a smoothe quick run. That's like picking a movie and being like "I think we should see a good movie.")

7 RepliesSame way, I've always avoided Raids. I've tried it once with a group and them knowing I didn't know what to do, and they got upset near the end and all bailed out leaving me alone, so I've never gone back to Raids, and decided to build my character up through relentless grinding. Now I'm stuck at a 390 light level, and can't seem to get any leg armor for my Warlock, so my legs are still at a 385 light level and have been for the last about 3-4 months. I know the best gear is in the Raids, but that one experience has soured my desire to ever go back.

I don't even attempt lfg raids. I'm not the best raider and don't like to cause wipes. Even though I'm yet to have a bad raid experience overall. My first VOG was lfg and My first real experience of gaming with random people online.I was by far the worst in the the team. I volunteered to back out so many times but they were a great bunch of people and wouldn't let me. That was year one and I have seen first hand how the community has gradually gotten worse, patience seems to be the hardest loot to get in this game. I'll admit I'm a filthy casual or whatever due to life commitments but I still love the game and finding people with the same mindset has become a lot harder.
-
2 RepliesI'm all for people new to raids jumping in, but what bothers me is when someone hasn't completed the raid before and then tries to run the challenge mode. It's not a big deal to teach people, but firsrs, if you haven't ever run the raids, probably not a good to try the hardest version first.
-
The only advice I could give novice raiders is just be honest with your team. Let them know up front what to expect. Also respect the requirements posted by the OP.
-
Congratulations on your well earned Necrochasm! I applaud you for overcoming your reluctance to raid. I also applaud those that helped you complete the raid. Your story sheds light on the root of so many problems in the Destiny community. Humility (or lack thereof). Everyone has to feel like they are better than everyone else. It keeps people out of raids. It keeps people from finding Trials help. If everyone just relaxed and took just a little time to practice some patience, there wouldn't be the elitism that is running rampant right now.
-
1 ReplyAnd now that we don't have to worry about Crota slicing you in half as soon as he stands back up, you no longer have to wait in awkward silence as you wait for someone to run the sword.

Kudos

Yeah buddy congrats to you. Not everyone of the destiny Community is an asshole ;)

6 RepliesCROTA was the last fun raid. I had more fun on the dark below dlc than any other.

It took me whole of y1 to make awesome raid friends and I met 300+ real good people back then. Some are now real world friends... I love the raid mechanisms in game and how it encourages a binding. Thing is... None of those 300+ peeps want to play this game any more and I just don't want to start all over again. Nechrocasm is good but when the time comes it will be blown to hell with the tower so no incentive. Also, this is week 1 so lfg is good and I'm sure that by next week or so it will be full of must be ll 500 have hard a#@ emblem and experienced and gally which will force Bungie to nerf the blade dancer subclass even more!
-
I've only completed a handful of raids ever (about 10 and never start to finish), why? Because they're boring. Hell my characters still haven't set foot on the Roi raid.
-
I feel ya bro.. though i did what you did a bit earlier.. for me it was mostly Kings Fall. tried it a couple of times and couldn't get it with crews i was getting on normal, then one day i thought phuk it and i jumped into a crew that was running hard mode and i was a much lower light than what they was asking for, when i jumped in i explained myself.... 80 odd Hard mode completions later now I'm able to help others... 😉😉😉

Crota is, and always has been, a joke of a raid. Most consider it a strike when it comes to difficulty level.

1 ReplyEdited by GalaxySpider: 4/1/2017 7:13:19 AMNo need to be afraid. If an LFG group doesn't work out, try a new one. As you said already, you can have a) people who totally understand you and the situation or b) totally idiots who want everything done first try. Me and a friend we always look for Facebook guys and groups (well, mainly my friend cauz I don't use that social platform) and we always explain and take randoms trough. Sure, it doesn't work at the first try, that's just a natural thing and no one gets mad. But after or 4 or 5 wipes we get it done. A few hours ago we just took at least 3 guys trough the raid. And they didn't even knew that the sword has an actual super or how the Crota mechanics work. It's fun and can be entertaining, lol. Especially when you are a Year 1 player ;)

Awesome guardian raiding with cool people in this game is some of the most fun I've had in a video game
