For any1 that's hesitant to join up to 390 challenge raids

Until last night I was you, so I get it. I've never been much of a raider and I was always concerned that my low light, lack of good gear or experience would hold the team back. But something happened last night that changed my mind. Story time: Necrocasm was the gun I was most excited for with age of triumph and I was super disappointed that it was locked behind the 390 CE raid. Last night I put a post up on lfg explaining that I was a novice raider but I was really willing to listen and learn from others. Got picked up surprisingly quick by an experienced raider that was willing to show me the ropes. StillI was still super nervous loading in. I straight up explained to everyone that I'm not the best raider and that I'd really appreciate someone explaining the best strategy for each encounter. I already knew how they worked from YouTube and the one yr1 normal run I had done, but I thought it was worth stating as I was rust as hell. Thing is I feel like it made the team better. Everyone was super understanding and the fact that the strategy was explained before each encounter made sure everyone knew their roles and what to do. Before each encounter we were all on the same page and the run went by really smoothly. Sure we wiped a couple of times but we stopped and assessed where we went wrong each time, thus we got better as a team as we went. Soon enough we had cleared all the challenge modes and downed crota. All in all it was one of the funniest experiences I have had playing destiny and as we all exchanged friend requests and the team broke up I found myself wondering - why did I wait this long to do this. Even now I'm not really sure why I feel so compelled to write this giant post. But for anyone on the fence that reads this get in there and give it a crack. Sure you may not get a great group first go, but when you do it's so worth it. At the very least your gaining experience along the way. Its worth it!!!! Walks off to shoot sh1t with my shiny new necrocasm. TLDR: bite the bullet, dive in, its so rewarding. I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner. EDIT 1: not really sure why I thought necrocasm wasn't going to be tied to the raid. I just figure it was going to be more of a yr3 gjhallarhorn/ thorn like quest. It's worth the effort to get it though. EDIT 2: WooHoo!!!! Just cleared WoTM for the first time and got genesis chain. Exploding auto rifles everywhere!!!!!

  • In a very similar situation as you. I've completed CE and VoG a couple of times when they first came out, but haven't had the chance since. And now I kinda got anxiety about the whole raid thing, also mostly because I'm not 400, yet, but kinda stuck on 390.

  • Well I haven't done the RoI raid. I see the only invites that are guardians that either look to be carried or to carry a raid team. I'm not bad ,but don't want to look like a guardian needed spoon fed. However I lack experience on what needs to be done and timing. I would love to try that raid with my friends, but lfg isn't something I would like to mess with.

    • The thing is, if you tell me before hand you dont know the raids etc i will explain. I always make a post with :must understand what to do/ must have some knowledge of the raid. Why? Well its easy (as you did) to just watch a yt video to get an idea of the encounter, i will gladly tell you what is easier to use etc if you did your homework and be honest and say you need some help/ want some extra info. However if you tell me that you know everything, and you cause wipe after wipe, and i ask you if you know how the raid works and you say no. Then you must have a good reason for me not to boot you because you just wasted 5 peoples time and effort

    • Nice to hear someone had a good experience. For the most part raiding sucks, because of the copious amounts of -blam!- heads in this community. It's probably the most frustrating part of destiny.

    • Awesome. If anybody has some room in their raid team, I'm looking for some guys to raid with on XB1. I've done all the raids lots of times on PS4, back on XB1 to play with an IRL friend. Would bring him along too he knows them as well.

      • I find Raids to be relaxing. But, I have a glorious family (Clan) to run them with. Finished 8 hours of moving furntiture today, then jumped straight into 5 or 6 CE's to help everyone get Challenges completed.

      • See it's people like you that I appreciate. You saw the light and wanted to give raiding a chance, and you went about it the right way. You are the type of person I wouldn't have any trouble spending however many hours getting you the clear. Because you were honest about your skill level and lack of knowledge / experience. Those two facts laid out on the table up front before even stepping foot in the raid is how everyone should be, then people like myself veteran raiders and Sherpas would be more inclined to take the time to teach people. The people that bitch about getting kicked or getting shitty groups on lfg that don't have enough experience to carry their weight are the ones that consistently have bad experiences because they aren't willing to admit they don't know what they are doing. Just because someone grinds to 400 doing patrols, strikes, forge, crucible, doesn't mean you have any idea how raid mechanics work or what's required to complete a Raid and not be dead weight. Hard core crucible players are in that boat as well, just because you have gone flawless 100 times doesn't mean you have the skill set step into a Raid and know how to get it done. Long story short, just because you know how to point and shoot a gun and use some abilities doesn't mean you have the skill set or the capability to get through any Raid without first knowing the mechanics behind each portion. Be honest about your level of Raid experience, and be willing to humble yourself and stow away the ego and guaranteed the next time you try I'm sure the Next Raid will be more enjoyable. Unless you get stuck with a bunch of scrubs but that happens on occasion and it's ok. Just keep trying

        • As long as there is 1 person in the raid that can explain what to do and explain it well. And you aren't playing with a bunch of apes raids should be no problem for anyone.

        • Add me on Xbox one I don't mind taking you threw a few raids. Even learning the mechanics of the older ones before they go up to new levels just so you are sure of what to do on each encounter.

I replied to your topic earlier, but i just went and did the new CE. By far the most fun I've ever had in Destiny. It was also pretty much the first proper raid i had ever cleared from start to finish, and the first full HM (LFG'd a Crota cp a while back). Posted on reddit, and got an awesome team. For once we didn't have an elitist, or that one guy who doesn't actually have a mic, and doesn't tell anyone. Literally everyone was respectful and helpful. Not a single person left when the going got tough. A couple of us hadn't done the new challenge modes, so we said so, and everyone explained it very well. We wiped a lot of times, but we kept at it, and we got better and better, eventually smashing both challenges (Deathsinger we had like 7 seconds, and we got Crota to enrage with two sword bearers). And i got pretty much every single bit of gear that i wanted. Helmet, Arms, Cloak, exotic & non exotic Fang of ir yût, and an Artefact. I wanted the Hunger and a ghost/ship/shader, but it was pretty much impossible to get everything in one run. But that one last Crota down was just awesome. I hadn't actually taken on Crota in all his glory, so i had no idea what to expect when he enraged. I was just furiously messing up Crota and the oversoul like my life depended on it.

        • Good story, congratulations on getting it done and I'm glad you have made the step up to doing the raids. People should not be afraid to go into the raids, challenge or not. We got a player through last night who was abit unsure of the raid and his own capabilities but he was fine. A few tips for people who are nervous and unsure about doing the raids:- Be honest- If you are posting on lfg make sure you click the novice icon or explain in the txt that you need instruction or that you are inexperienced, that way people will you need help and not be annoyed by you. Don't be that guy/girl - Don't be the person who's done it on your 'other account' when you know have not and pretend to know everything just because you have watched it on youtube. Have patience - sometimes it takes a few tries for a team to start working well. Don't start complaining if you need to wipe a few times. Ask questions, listen and learn - if you are unsure about mechanics, your loadout or anything you don't understand ask questions, listen to the experienced players and remember what happens for next time. Be happy with your team- if you get with a team you don't like or are not comfortable with then leave and find another. There are A##holes out there and there is nothing worse than thinking you are stuck in with them for a hour or more. Have fun - enough said. Raids are extremely good fun when you get with the right people, and there are a lot of helpfull, decent players out there, so, give them a try.

        • Just be sure to have a mic, and watch a video or two before trying to join. If you can follow directions well you should be fine. I dont raid much, but i always find good peeps to raid with. Also make sure you have loads of patience and plenty of time, just in case.
