So I was recently playing BotW and I was having trouble with a puzzle. It required two electric balls that needed to be placed on separate pedestals to open the door.
Well for 20+ minutes I searched the entire dungeon for the second ball and for the life of me I couldn't find it.
Nearly giving up I remembered what happened to me a little while before. I was walking around in a lightning storm with metal gear on and I was shortly struck dead by a bolt of lightning.
So remembering that metal gear conducted electricity, I decided to take every piece of metal gear I had and threw it on the ground. I organized it so that it connected the pedestals. Sure enough, it worked.
I thought this was a super cool example of attention to detail, allowing players to solve puzzles by looking for alternatives to what they are supposed to do.

46 RepliesEdited by Unforgiven: 3/14/2017 2:07:31 AMPlease STOP There is no justification for buying this right now. NONE! Prepare for a rant I cannot think of any sane person who buys a Nintendo Switch unless it is a gift for your child or significant other who is a huge fan of Zelda and wants the latest thing from Nintendo every time it comes out. I have money to spend on games but this seems such a huge waste of money. Even the richest person in the world would think twice about buying it. $300 -blam!-ing dollars. And another $70 for a decent controller. And only 1 game Zelda for another $60. This thing is way too expensive not to come with a game included. The thing is outdated right off the bat with only 720p. I mean 720p touchscreen and 32 gigs of storage and its mediocre specs. NO Mario game at launch? What is Nintendo thinking. No Mario Cart. No Mario World. I can't think of any other Nintendo games right now. Metroid? Whatever. I mean if anyone buys this right off the bat you do realize that Nintendo will probably release an HD version of this console eventually at same price point, and then there will be a lot more games. Because even tablets had nicer screens years ago. The battery life is crap. But Zelda is a great game. I am sure. Or I could spend $250 dollars, and get Playstation 4 Slim and get 500 gb Uncharted and have choice of hundreds of games which you can pick and choose from. Like oh I don't know the New Horizon Zero Dawn, and multitude of others. Even if you own a PS4, you could splurge and PS4 Pro or go back and buy the games you never even played like I dunno Bloodborne or Last of Us, or maybe God of War series. Or hundreds of others. Literally. I dunno it seems like a total waste of money. But hey what do I know. Or you could get Xbox one S, with same 500 gb, and that basic plastic controller that looks like a child's toy with pack in game whatever it is Battlefield, and then buy discounted Halo and Gears of War, and whatever other titles they got. And that has value because it comes with a 4K blue ray fisher price player inside. Now that is value even though I don't like the Xbox One, I still consider it a better value than the Switch. SMH honestly, whoever bought this is a fool. And I am guessing that you just don't have anything to spend money on or at probably so addicted to video games that you just decided that you would sell your soul to the devil. . There is no Virtual store yet? No video streaming? No web browser. And you can't store your saved games online? @_@.What ? This is 2017? Not 1987 right? This thing is not ready. This is a Beta console and everyone knows it. It is a PILE OF SHIT! And you idiots that bought this that are trying to justify buying it. Please STOP. Insert favorite meme here. You should feel ashamed. I would rather donate money to homeless person than buy this. ANd I hate donating money. have a great day

I use bombs on apple trees to collect the fruit and wood as opposed to chopping the tree down or climbing it. I use bombs to break ore nodes instead of a hammer. I light fires with fire rod or if a fire source is near I will use a regular arrow and hold the shot while using the lit arrow to start the fire. Just a few ways the game lets you solve things in more than one way.

4 RepliesEdited by Murph Tha Smurf: 3/13/2017 7:23:25 PMMy friends came over this weekend, and one brought BotW. He let me loose on it, and was so confused. I went completely the opposite way on all accounts, screwed around burning things (learned you can cook apples with a torch before you pick them) and tossing various objects into the fire. Also, attaching balloons to everything and solving puzzles in... creative ways. I once threw my weapon to get the attention of enemies, leading them right under a beehive which I then shot. Then I led the bees into their cooking fire and they all died.

That's one way to do it. I was in a shrine that required me to tilt my control pad to guide a ball through a maze. After spending a few minutes getting frustrated, i tried turning the platform to get a better starting position for the ball. Turns out (ha), that I could get the ball to drop on the last stretch of the maze. It didn't take long until I flung the ball into the switch after that.

I solved a circuit puzzle in a similar fashion. Don't know if you were "supposed to" (as much as one can say that about BotW), but it made the whole thing much easier.

That's what I love about BotW. There are a lot of ways to solve the same problem that no ones experience would quite be the same. My friend has solved some puzzles in ways I didn't think were possible, and vice versa. It's a great game that gives you all the tools at the beginning, and requires you to use your ingenuity to explore the world and discover it secrets.

10 RepliesIs this game worth buying a Wii U or Switch just to play it?
-
Im constantly wondering if im doing things the way they're "supposed" to be done. There's so many ways to solve the puzzles I often feel like im exploiting the mechanics or cheating but its just how the game was designed.
-
One thing I like doing is using the time freeze rune on switches just to skip parts of puzzles.

3 RepliesToo bad the dungeons are ass in this game.

Yup, I was in a shrine where you had to basically connect an electrical circuit to these light bulbs, I was starting to get fed up with the shrine till I dropped every single metal weapon I had on the floor and connected the circuit to them which made them electrified so I could connect them to the light bulbs.
-
Now I wanna see someone make a metal path, get struck by lightning, and carry the current across the map.
