Edit: I could NOT BE ANY HAPPIER WITH THIS POST. We've been top 5 trending for several hours. Lots of opinions and conversations flowing. Salt has been kept at a wonderfully low level. I love when the community can come together and really talk things out. This is what destiny needs, and I'm so thankful and proud of every one here for being so passionate about the game we all love! GGs everyone.

So, lets talk about the sidearm, and it's overbearing presence in the crucible.
First off I'd like to state the obvious fact that sidearms are NOT OP and were quite rare before the update, aside from nlb users, and our dear friends TrueVanguard and Kjhovey.
Their TTK's range from a minimum of .6 to a maximum of .96 dependant on archetype and headshots landed. As impressive as that sounds their range holds them in a balanced position as powerful short ranged duelers, meant for back up and shotgun countering purposes, and work exactly as they should.
Now, and this is only my opinion, the distaste for sidearms at the moment isn't because of their power, it's simply that the ammo economy forces us into using them. A sidearm has the ability to over power any primary with ease, within its optimal range.
When you have no special, being a common occurrence in the current state of things, you are simply at a disadvantage to a sidearm user.
Ammo persists, more ammo is reimbursed on respawn if empty, and as it seems all this points to MORE slaying potential. This forces many into a position of "use this or do worse."
Did you enjoy being an aggressive sniper, despite the horrid nerfs? A shotty warrior maybe? Maybe you were that elusive fusion main who loves to go for crazy plan c swaps, or cross map people with a saladins. Maybe you feel upset that your aggressive playstyles were almost taken from you entirely, especially in the 6v6 playlist. You have every right to be. Because forcing someone into a style of gameplay they don't enjoy IS NOT BALANCE. It is a lazy and unprofessional attempt to stir the pot.
Bad move bungie. You may have forced primary fights, but you've removed a large portion of the fun for many.

I love it. No more trash players getting free kills with the OHK crutch.
-
My side arm is op and broken. Teacup tempest with reactive reload and crowd control. It will 3 body shot once they proc
-
They're good it's just they have too much range for it to be a balanced weapon
-
I used a weapon build for fun this weekend for a card. I had universal remote, sidearm, and Juggernaut.
-
Sidearms are far from being op in my opinion, but currently it isn't working with the current special ammo economy. The whole point of the nerf was to promote primaries, but some people are still relying on their special. All I see is that they made other weapon types irrelevant now. I've seen people work with alternatives so they can still have their same playstyle before the patch like using nlb, ice breaker, heck even universal remote. We're basically forced to use a specific weapon now if we want to play a specific playstyle consistently. It isn't too bad, but I would like to have more variety and not have to change up my playstyle to work with others.

They're annoying asf because everyone's just a special ammo junky. I personally was a buckshot bruiser before and still am and will always be a shotty main. I use chaperone a lot as well. Everyone plays so dumb now it's like they don't even expect a shotgun anymore then BAM lul -blam!- your sidearm.

2 RepliesMy tlaloc still outshoots any sidearm and pretty much any gun....didn't affect me at all. Still use shotgun as my backup.
-
Sidearms are fine except for the stscking ammo on death. Much better than the shotgun aids meta before the patch.
-
I have always used Sidearms, always loved them, my go-to Special in both PvE and PvP, which is why I think it is good they are finally getting the love they deserve... BUT!... Because I have been using Sidearms all this time it really aggravates me when I see people complaining that they are overpowered. They are ABSOLUTELY NOT overpowered. Just because you have finally recognised a long-underrated weapon class does not mean it is OP. Maybe if Bungie knew how to balance their game properly people wouldn't crying NERF NERF NERF! I swear if they nerf Sidearms next because of their own bad choices I am absolutely done!
-
The grimoire card requires 5000 kills, and takes a long time. They want people to get the grimoire for it. Simple
-
I don't think anyone has ever been opposed to sidearms. EVERYONE is opposed to being forced to use them if you want secondary ammo. That is pure idiocy.
-
I was using sidearms just before the patch and I love them, considering I was an avid shotgunner. I was dropping people rushing pretty easily. Not used a shotgun since.

So special weapons are called power weapons in halo. They even work the same as they did in halo. One shot one kill. So the problem is the balance of power in weapon slots. The real question is how do you balance this in a game with load outs that are all different? Well taking special away was the only choice at this point. I mean honestly do you all want hwakmoon to one shot you without luck? Buffs can only go so far to counter the power weapons. But then people called for nerds when a primary could out shoot with the right perks. The real problem is the community is used to a game where being good isn't really a thing. You don't want gun fights. You want 360 no scope montage feelings. That's not balance. There's a reason halo hasn't really changed its competitive MP. It's balance through skill and map control. This game has neither. So balance will never be achieved in this game. Bungie is a great developer but have only ever created arena style shooters. I'm hoping they learn from the mistakes of destiny and implement a better system. You all being cry baby's and well spoiled brats isn't helping. So grow up and come up with real ideas for balance. Not just complaints on something you can't control and caused in the first place

4 RepliesOnly done one game in the new world, it was yesterday. I used to be an avid sidearm user, but I enjoy avoiding the meta, so I ran hawkmoon and Saladman's Vigil. Absolutely destroyed people.
-
2 RepliesI truly believe they should add sidearms too the specials that lose their ammo after you die than you'll really see a variety in special weapons
-
"Now, and this is only my opinion, the distaste for sidearms at the moment isn't because of their power, it's simply that the ammo economy forces us into using" I agree..i hate this amo nerf...i only used my special for defensive purposes..now I have to use or loose it..hate any nerf that changes my play style.

11 RepliesSidearms are strong. They Beat Out TLW for -blam!-s sake.. The whole point of balance is to give options.. what options? 10/12 people in every lobby are using sidearms and as their primary

Was really looking forward to get in to more primary gunfights. Idk if my mm is just ul af, but every game in every gamemode : 1st of all latency lag, getting shot behind walls, being killed before i even see them etc etc etc redbars/yellowbars for days. (I run a 100mb wired full green bar always, but i guess the new patch made so many ppl quit, which means less pool of players to mm w). 2nd of all sidearms. Im getting fcked for not having my sidearm ready all the time. OH a 1v1, he's/she's not running off to his teammates, starts the engagement w my primary, gets -blam!- in 3 sec because of his lil sidearm (i don't consider sidearms op, but they should lose ammo on death like every other special weapon). If im not being aped by sidearms, ppl hide and camp big time with nlb's and icebreakers, or ppl crouch and hold each others d's while teamshooting. SO FCKING BORING AND FRUSTRATING. Who's with me???

Watching some streamers on the weekend, and their sidearm had more ammo than their primary at spawn LOL.

What bungie did was not the right solution. The lack of variety in crucible for special weapons has never been so bad. The crucible feels less fun because i cant use my fusion rifles like i used to or sniper. Not everyone thinks specail ammo should be so limited and does take the fun out of the game. I have been using sidearms but its boring. This is one of the worst patches to come out. This is the second time they tried to limit special ammo and they failed again. will they ever learn? when you limit specail ammo it makes things uneven. the more you limit it the more uneven and less fun it becomes. I dont want to play that type of game. overall the game feels less dynamic and boring with everyone running with sidearms. removing side arm ammo on death is not the answer either it will create a snowball effect for the winning team and hurt other players. The special ammo boxes should not be the focus . I would rather the changes in this patch to just go back the way it was. the game was a lot more fun and more dynamic . the crucible is somewhat boring now. The best solution so both teams always have specail would be if you die you lose all your reserve ammo. you have as many bullets as you do in one magazine. this way there is no snowball effect where one team has specail ammo and stops people from waiting 10 to 15 seconds waiting for the special ammo boxes. In my opinion the game should not revolve around those boxes and it slows the game down. All bungie had to do if shotguns where a problem was just limit shotgun ammo to 3 or 4 bullets. another option was to remove the high impact shotguns from the game all together.

3 RepliesNot removing sidearm on respawn has helped my decision to not play destiny anymore. Uninstalled destiny. It's just so dumb imo.
-
4 RepliesOveruse doesn't mean overpowered, same as the matador. The sniper nerf went too far which forced people to use shotguns and now the ammo nerfs have killed the special weapon spectrum.
-
1 Replywhat primary fight? you mean sidearms fight? people will do anything not to use a primary
-
5 RepliesI played my first game of the patch yesterday. Just one game. I used hawkmoon and a sidearm and I struggled to find a use for the sidearm. It doesn't fit in my play style. I'll probably go back to using a sniper because that works in the way I play but sidearms are kinda useless.

Edited by Doc: 2/21/2017 4:18:05 PMI feel pvp would be fun if we had the primary buff and nothing else.....just annoying to go to the special box after you die.
it doesn't make sense there is more special amo now before patch they should have just made special spawn later and make you conserve amo rather than just grabing another box. .
2 RepliesEdited by Zildjian: 2/21/2017 3:18:43 PMGood post. I'm kind of in agreement with you here. I just think that Bungie have decided to really shake up how we all approach the Crucible and so in turn this new Meta feels like it's been forced on us? But then again we still have the option to use whatever we want don't we? We adapt. As a rule I've always mained Fusions in PvP, I'm one of the elusive 2%ers, but I also use Sidearms and have dabbled with them for quite a while now. Vestian, Dreg's, JabbeHäkke, Havoc, Queen's Choice… They've all had a run out, but the game changers for me were Ironwreath-D and more recently the Trespasser. Those two are beasts… My best Ironwreath has Crowd Control, Hot Swap and HCR on it and is lethal from quite a distance. I played a lot of Crucible over the weekend and at first ran with a Fusion. I did notice pretty quickly how many people people were running Wormwood… (I don't have one) so I switched to Ironwreath purely so I could compete. Which sort of backs up your argument that this new style is being forced on us. But I was getting an obscene amount kills with it... which had I been running Fusion, wouldn't have been the case. Personally I'm all for more Primary engagements and the fact that Special Ammo spawns every minute hasn't really made a difference to me, but with a Sidearm you don't have to think about it, you don't have to find an ammo crate, it's always there which does kind of make things a little unbalanced, unfair. If you can't beat em, join em as they say. I'll still use Fusions in normal Crucible I guess, I mean I can still swap to a Sidearm whenever, but it'll be interesting to see what the next Iron Banner is like… NLB and Wormwood I'd hazard a guess.
