They are equally viable but now you need to skill to wield them or ammo is simply wasted. Going mostly negative is punished as dying=no special= probably a lot less kills.

I suppose you're right. I've always mostly used my primary anyway, so it doesn't matter that much. I just don't enjoy the extra process of acquiring ammo more often and reloading. It does encourage less dying and pacing yourself, I'll give you that.
