We just launched Hotfix 2.5.0.2 which contains a Sandbox tuning pass and changes to the Crucible. If you want an in-depth exploration into some of these changes you can watch our live fire demonstration here. For those interested in the bullet points we have the full Patch Notes up as well.
In the interest of full transparency, we do need to clarify something in this update. Our test team discovered that the changes to the Blade Dancer Perk Hungering Blade were being applied to several other Health Regen Perks. Here is a quote from Sandbox designer Josh Hamrick.
Over the last couple of days, as we continued to test the patch, it came to our attention that the changes we made to Hungering Blade were unintentionally shared among a number of additional elements (list below). While we considered delaying the hotfix to remove the shared change, we ultimately decided to live with the patch we’d made and tested. We believe that Hotfix 2.5.0.2 is an important step forward to maintain the health of the game and that getting it out to you ASAP is in everyone's best interest. And besides, no one wants to show up empty handed on Valentine’s day.
List of affected elements:
• Hungering Blade (Arc Hunter)
• Transfusion (Striker Titan)
• Cauterize (Sunbreaker Titan)
• Lifesteal (Voidwalker Warlock)
• Red Death perk
• Suros Legacy Perk (Suros Regime)
• No Backup Plans
• Ward of Dawn cast
• The Ram
• Apotheosis Veil
• Embrace the Void (Voidwalker Warlock)
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be diligently watching and listening to what you have to say about these changes. While we will be unsurprised if additional tweaks need to be made, we are honestly super interested to see how these changes, intended or not, play out. We will be relying on you to give us your feedback as you grow accustomed to the feel of the game over the next couple of weeks. We will also be with you ingame, playing along and making our own notes… Apparently, I have to redeem myself for my stream performance anyway.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a 1st date with a potential Skorri fix…

210 RepliesLong story short: you know that without fixing the PvP mess you made, you're going to fall below revenue benchmarks for the remainder of the time before D2, allowing Activision to enact the clause in your contract that allows them to dramatically restructure the company as they see fit (yep, we know about that). So with all the issues in the patch, you hit a do or die moment; will you lose more players by delaying or by publishing a broken patch? You opted to publish and look at how things go, which is a mistake. If you had pushed and promised to revert the bugs as soon as humanly possible, things would be ok; instead, most of the forum believes that you simply intended to do this from the first, but you don't want to own up to it. This brings up an interesting point: did you? There is no way that you missed this 'over the weeks and months' unless your testing parameters were incredibly poorly defined (guess what I do for a living?). The only way that's even possible is if you failed to do any form of regression testing on the other similar code that might have been affected, which is a bit hard to stomach. It also points to poor coding practices and documentation; pretty clearly, you changed a public method, rather than implement a private method for the specific ability being changed. unless you literally farmed this out to the interns, I don't see how a company such as yourself could have done this unintentionally and not caught it basically on the same day you deployed it into integration; again, the regression testing should have caught it. So the only options I can see are that either you let people that have no business handling the live code do the work on this one, and then failed to regress or do proper code reviews on the finished product, or you were wanting to sneak these changes in under the radar and see what the backlash looked like. either way, I suggest getting a game plan together to address the issue; your PR ratings aren't in the best place, and this could be regarded as one of the biggest blunders in a long history of ups and downs. I absolutely love this game, and I respect the vision that I see in it, even if some of it couldn't be realized. But you need to put your house in order, or Activision will do it for you. If you want to have any form of community rapport from this point, I would highly suggest keeping a reactive, open, and very public dialog going on this matter. If you don't, I don't see great things coming for you in the near future. Hoping for the best for you, but planning for the worst.
