So before reading this, please visit my previous post months ago and yes I did play the during the dawning, sue me. Link here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/217534458?showBanned=0&path=0
Now lets get back to the post itself, I warned the community once and they were dumb enough to ignore it, with the kotaku article bringing up the problems of pre-ordering, even Boogie2988, Angry Joe, and so many more famous credible people, we need to remember, pre-ordering destroys games entirely. How so? Well, let me give you a list.
CoD: Advanced Warfare
CoD: BO3
CoD: Ghosts
CoD: Infinite Warfare
Titanfall (Was supposed to have a story)
Overwatch (Was supposed to be an MMO)
Recore (So many things went wrong with it)
and the list could go on and on and on...
But are you noticing something? No? Please go look at the trailers before it was released and the severe backlash of the final products reviews. The conclusion here is that preordering renders the product into a lump of clay, a very small one at that. Preordering the game locks you in on the product they intend to sell, and what they show you isn't the final product, like so!

Seeing it? Do I need to find more? No? Okay then! When the company knows they've sold millions of copies before they even print the discs they can cut out soooooo much of the game and just give it to you. And that's what happened to Destiny, Recore, Overwatch, -blam!-ING RECORE, No mans sky for christ sakes!
They know they can keep bending you over the rails because a lot of you don't have self control, so my second warning is this. DON'T PREORDER THE GAME! Let bungie print the discs and preorder a week before it releases, save the game, its future and your embarrassing burden of knowing you cause problems for the industry. Thank you!

1 ReplyOverwatch was gonna be a mmo? Since when
-
2 RepliesOverwatch may have once been on a path to becoming a MMO, but is now an awesome FPS.

4 RepliesMindless idiots.. They never learn. Destiny is just about dead. The noobs are keeping it alive.

Edited by SmashvilleViking: 2/17/2017 3:25:18 PMTitanfall never had a story. That's per Respawn. Overwatch was never advertised as a MMO. That was Project Titan. It was scrapped before work on Overwatch ever began. CoD has been the same game over and over for the last 10 years. I didn't know people still preorder it. Either way, preorder or not... We will all get the same game.

9 RepliesI'm normally one who pre-orders games, but not this time, as the old saying goes "once bitten twice shy". So I'm going to wait till it's released, might be a day, a week or even be a month before I buy it. We will see if they repeat the same mistakes again or if they've learned from them.

10 RepliesWait a minute Overwatch was never supposed to be an MMO...

1 ReplySend a message to BUNGIEVISION and do not preorder. They deserve it after this most recent tuning.

5 RepliesLol. Its £50. Its not like pre ordering a car. I'll easily get my moneys worth of multiplayer fun with my crew even if the game ends up crap. Ive dropped cash on a lot worse. Bought ninja turtles for 50, clocked the entire game in a few hours. Never played again. But it was a fun few hours of retro madness with buddies, so fk it. The ups and downs of a gamer. Ps. Im preordering digitally and now im also going to pre order an extra hard copy to make up for the one you arent ordering. I'll use it as a coaster or something. Peace.

4 RepliesWith this recent patch, -blam!- destiny 2

While Overwatch was originally meant to be an MMO it was going nowhere so Blizzard decided to make a change. While the public knew about the project by the time it was available to pre-order it was finalized as Overwatch.

18 RepliesEdited by Sideswipe: 2/14/2017 4:33:40 AMUgh, this urban myth nonsense again. Listen folks, pre-orders have absolutely zero to do with the quality of a game, the "fullness" of a game, or any other detriments that get blamed on pre-orders. Fact: Pre-order sales revenue does not go to the publisher until well after release. In fact, they're the second to last one to see that money! Retailer collects $60 from consumer. Retailer pays distributor $50 (give or take a few $) 30 days later. Distributor pays manufacturer $35 (roughly) 30 days later. Manufacturer pays Publisher their cut (roughly $25) in a pay schedule previously agreed upon. Publisher gives Devs any bonuses or shares agreed upon. So it can be up to 90 days before a publisher like Activision will physically receive revenue from a Pre-order. Fact: Pre-orders typically only account for roughly 10-20% of a games overall sales and are not a guarantee of a sale as you can usually cancel it at any time. Fact: This one should be obvious. The publishers expect pre-orders! The urban myth paints a picture that publishers are surprised when a game reaches X amount of pre-orders. They're not. Again, it's expected. Fact: Pre-orders are a "judge of interest" as the myth would have you believe. Things such as a title's previous sales, E3 hype, social media hype, and focus groups are what drive the expected amount of pre-orders. Fact: By the time pre-orders become available and/or are widely publicized, the game is in its final stages of development. At this point, it's too late to make the sweeping changes and removal of content that is suggested. The designers are working on the finishing touches - bugs, glitches, exploits, weapon "balance" - and internal play testing.
"But...but when games get pushed back, that's when they are actually removing the content to sell to us later!" Or "We saw it at E3, now it's been removed!
1. Games get pushed back all the time and has nothing to do with removal of content. Sometimes during development it becomes apparent that certain aspects won't work, aren't fun, don't fit, etc. The delay of a release date is typically announced months in advance - (if a release date was even announced) see games like Destiny, No Man's Sky, etc. 2. Why would they remove stuff "for the sake of future DLC sales" and risk damaging the viability of future game sales? It's not uncommon these days to have a team working on DLC alongside the team producing the parent title. Occasionally, DLC content gets put in previews. It happens, but also helps to build future hype and sales. 3. Sometimes they're pushed back to avoid competition. CoD isn't going to release on the same day as Halo, and vice versa. The titles will essentially split the playerbase as most aren't going to buy both at the same time, let alone play both at the same time. Better to push yours back and let the players get the other one "played out" amd be ready for a good run with yours. Fact: The overall quality of games hasn't changed since Pong. With the industry booming and the fact that very few games actually return a profit - 20% of games under development make it to the consumer and of those only 20% "earn a significant return on investment".
https://www.google.com/amp/kotaku.com/5098356/only-20-of-games-make-a-profit---eedar/amp?client=ms-android-att-us
So with companies like EA and Activision bulldozing the shelves with games, you're going to get alot of clunkers. Take off the rose colored glasses and remember all those terrible NES/SNES or Coleco/Atari games back in the 80s (ET anyone?). I know I remember alot. Even some of the better ones were short (beaten in one night or weekend), had little replay value, or were just flat out boring. Also, many people get enamored with outliers such GTA V, ESO, or even the Fallout franchise. "Look at all the content and all the things you can do! It shouldn't be that difficult to make a good game. They're just too money hungry/cash grabby to give us that level of content." Uh, it is hard to do. Just ask Blizzard.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FCvdNI0CDjc
They worked for 5 years (2007-2011/12) on their next big MMO Project: Titan to replace the aging WoW. It took them that long to realize it wasn't working. So they scrapped it. All was not lost, however. In 2012, the team took many aspects from that failed MMO and turned it into Overwatch - and it's pre-order availability was long after this decision was made. What all this boils down to is that pre-orders aren't hurting the game industry and publishers aren't cutting content because of the pre-orders. About the only thing hurting the industry is you. Yes, you, the consumer - or rather, the uninformed consumer. That's right, those of you who blindly buy games rather than researching what the game actually entails. There's no shortage of information on them, especially after release. You can also rent them as a trial to see how it plays for you. You'd be surprised how many you could beat within a weekend, plus you're progress is saved should you decide to buy. At the very least, you'd have a guage of your own interest to know if it's worth buying. So pre-order all you want, it's hurting no one (except those rare exceptions where the bonuses actually give you an early competitive advantage) so long as you are informed of the product you're purchasing. "But wait, you just contradicted yourself!" Well, not really. You see, in the grand scheme, descisions on future projects doesn't come from pre-order sales, it comes from overall sales - pre-orders, launch day, launch month, launch quarter, and even player time-played. So you're pre-order dollars are just a small part of the overall development cycle.

1 ReplyI was going to. Until today. Now ill wait until it gets discounted to $5

In all fairness, games seldom live up to the hype. Preorder or not. The trailers have better graphics than gameplay and gameplay gets tweaked because sometimes it just doesn't make sense. It's normal for an E3 trailer to differ from the final game and you can't blame it all on preordering.
-
1 ReplyWho the F Pre orders a game??? Lmao I can see preordering a custom corvette or something unique and valuable but a VIDEO GAME? Wow. Yes, if they see tons of preorders then sure, they can cut content before release to sell it in a DLC. Who knows. Preordering a game is just mindless though. No offense to the younger crowd, i know i'm certainly in the minority, age wise.

2 RepliesPeople can preorder what they want when they want if they want. You can go f yourself with your theories. Companies won't make games worse if they did they would lose their money. The reason people pre order is to get early access to the game. Bungie isn't a evil empire their a gaming industry and their gonna do what they can to get more money? #itsnotevilitsjustbuisness
