Complete Guide to the Hunter Class -Long

I've mained hunter for all my time in destiny and consider myself rather effective at using them. So this is the complete guide on how to effectively use your hunter in both crucible and pve. NIGHTSTALKERS The nightstalker is a strong class in both pvp and pve if used well and also makes you look absolutely awesome in everything you do. PvE In pve, the nightstalker excels as a support player due to its perks. The shadestep can be used to avoid incoming fire along with invisibility smokes while it's super can greatly help the dps of the team (use black hole). You can also use envenomed smokes with grenades to take down hordes of enemies with ease. I recommend using voidwall or vortex grenades. In terms of movement I recommend using better control with bones of eao (for fastest movement) or if you want you can run triple jump with graviton forfeit and keen scout (for better radar but slower movement) I usually use a scout rifle or hand cannon with a sniper. PvP Nightstalkers can do extremely well at playing both defensively or extremely offensively. Offensive players should run better control, bones of eao and shadestep for excellent control in terms of movement. Vortex grenades are quite weak in the crucible as they have small aoe unlike void walls and spikes. Spike grenades require much more skill but when mastered are very powerful for controlling the map and killing groups of opponents, I recommend not throwing spikes in the same place as smoke bombs but t trap your enemy between the two. Void walls are very effective for wiping large groups with a smoke bomb by using a 'wombo combo' this is when you throw both your nade and smoke bomb to slow players and damage them in the nade. Use envenomed for pvp as invis is a bit useless when against skilled players. You can use a fusion rifle or a shotgun when rushing by shooting then shadesteping away and into cover before they can shoot you. Using your radar is essential for using fusion rifles as you can guess when they will come round the corner so that you can precharge and get the kill before they can react. I recommend quiver or black hole. Playing defensively requires patience and skill. To use a sniper effectively on a nightstalker you need to master shade step. When shadestepping a small arrow apears in the middle of you're screen. I have no idea why that's there but I use it to show me where my sniper will aim when I scope in for the shot. I again recommend spikes or void walls as they are great for keeping enemies back and keeping control of the map. Snares are suddenly viable though as they can show you where a player is that you would have otherwise not noticed by placing them in doorways or on walls to keep track of where the players are. I recommend black hole. GUNSLINGERS Ever since they were nerfed they have become less widely used in the crucible but are still very viable. PvE Gunslingers have the ability to deal massive one time damage with the use of celestial nighthawk and deadeye. Again I recommend using controlled jump or triple. Run chain of woe and gunslingers trance as these buffs really do make a big difference when killing large groups. Swarm and tripmime grenades are a bit useless in my opinion so I recommend incindiaries as the best option. Apart from this run whatever you prefer. PvP In pvp you can use bones of eao as you don't have to use celestial nighthawk anymore so again use that with the controlled jump. Again use incindiaries but I would recommend using double throwing knives with incendiary blades. Just tap an enemy with a hand cannon and throw a knife at them to 1 look awesome and 2 get some cheesy kills. I think that all perks on the golden gun are viable options but I prefer deadeye for the added accuracy. Ahamkaras spine with double knives will give you two tripmines and two knives, this is great for territorial control and getting players very weak. Aclyophase symbiote is a good helmet for pvp as it gives an extra shot to your golden gun. This can be great for getting quick multikills with ease. BLADEDANCERS Bladedancers are arguably the best of the three in pvp but are much less reliable in pve. PvE Bladedancers aren't the strongest here but can still be used to some success. The main focus in pve for bladedancers is the many invisibility perks it owns. This is a great option for a variety of activities such as getting teammates revives or doing the sword in Croats end. Again if you haven't quite understood me, I recommend increased control with bones of eao. All 3 of the super modifiers are good choices. Escape artist for more invisibility and arcbolt grenades for aoe damage. Run shadowjack and stalker. PvP This is where bladedancers shine. You can use any one of the grenades although the current meta sways towards skip grenades with shinobus vow though keep in mind this will mean you can't use bones of eao so blink could be an option if you can use it though I recommend sticking with better control if you are unfamiliar with blink. Razors edge is my favourite for pvp as it adds a bit of range to the super. Backstab is ridiculously good because of the broken back detection where you can one hit someone in the face. Use fleet footed for shotguns and quickdraw for sniping if your sniper has snapshot instead of quickdraw. I highly recommend using hungering blade and you will be surprised as to how many times it will save your life. How to blink- The movement of blink relies on when you press jump for the second time and how you were moving. If you press it at the very top of your jump you will do a flat jump and maximise speed. If you press it twice very quickly you will go much higher. Running whilst doing a flat blink will make you blink further whilst walking will make you plummet to the ground. Running whilst doing a high blink will put you at a 45° angle while walking will be much higher. Blink is a jump that requires mastery but when perfected can be fast, controlled and great for making a quick escape or a push. OVERALL HUNTER TIPS The hunter doesn't have Titan skating or warlock surfing so it has to make up for it by perfecting increased control or blink. Increased control will boost you at extroadinary speeds if there is a low ceiling as boosting yourself into it and hitting your head as you go will bounce you forward (for some reason unexplained). The worst pvp feeling in destiny is activating your super then instantly being shut down by a sniper. To avoid this hunters actually have it easy compared to other classes. Nightstalkers should shadestep before they fire their bow as it makes your head very difficult to shoot and also moves you to make it harder to get your head mid pull. Blade dancers and gunslingers can both slide whilst activating their supers which can save you plenty of lives and controllers. When choosing your subclass stats (armor, agility and recovery) try to get high but equalish recovery and agility but make sure not to have minimal armor. Unless you are underlight in trials in which case run max armor. Use shade step to see in third person around you and use the arrow to adjust crosshair placement. Memory of jolder is my favourite ornament as it reduces sprint cooldown so you can slide endlessly. I recommend sliding then jumping then sliding then sliding while just spamming sprint button. On a nightstalker just slide slide slide then shade step then slide slide slide. Sliding is great as it makes you a smaller target, faster, harder to shoot and keeps you off the radar for a second. Hunters can also be some of the best looking characters in the game. When your in the tower just look around at what everyone has, find out how to get it then go grind ye butt off for it. Also inspect my hunter he's beautiful. 😂 I hope this guide helped all of you eager hunter players and may have encouraged you to make a hunter of your own. If you think I missed anything please feel free to tell me so I can add it in and if you disagree I want to hear what you think and why. Credit to foxburton99 for added tips on the gunslinger.

  • For Gunslinger - The symbiote helmet grants an extra shot but at the cost of having your GG run out faster. - Deadeye grants a 30% damage buff on top of the improved accuracy, allowing you to shutdown panic supers like FOH and NB in one shot. - Activating your super does not grant additional armor like Bladedancer.

        • You have a very good post hear but I have to disagree with the vortex grenade I love using vortex and smoke to either get a quick kill or block off a way they also make a great combo for an escape other than that great post.

            • I agree with most if not everything you posted. The only thing that put me off was the 1.04 kd. I'm not saying there isn't a reason for that, ex; Crucible challenges, farming crucible rank, etc. But this was a good post, great job.

                  • Excellent post. I main Titan, but I play on my Hunter a lot (especially recently) and hav been trying to improve my PvP abilities as each of the Classes. So far I've been doing great with Gunslinger and Blade Dancer but my skills as a Nightstalker still need improvement. I hav a couple suggestions for additions u could make to the Gunslinger section. Acliophage Symbiote is a good weapon to use in both PvE and PvP because that extra shot can count for a lot, especially with explosions active in PvE. But my favorite PvP combination is wearing Young Ahamkara's Spine with the double throwing knives perk active so u hav 2 knives and 2 trip mines. With this combination, you can hit someone with a throwing knife or grenade and leave them only one shot away from death, or you can shoot them once and throw either the grenade or the knife. The double grenades are great for territorial control and the knives will be ready to help u fend off anyone who comes on an open end or is foolish enough to set off a trip mine

                    • I have 2 questions. First off what perk should I run for shadowshot in pvp. Also would sealed ahamkara grasps be a good choice for any specific subclass.

                              • For an aggressive/speed run play style (PVE), smoke grenades and Don't Touch Me Gauntlets are paramount.
