For the "destiny elitists" and the guys who just can't seem to do anything other than play destiny- remember that real life always comes first. Today I was playing and overheard a young dad send his son off crying because he was in the way of the TV when it sounded to me like his son (maybe three or four years old) just wanted to spend time with his dad. Not cool. Before you make a full time job out of destiny, make sure you have everything you need first, and if there are people that depend on you for something other than raiding or trials, be sure to give them the time of day. If you're the guy who overlooks your family for a quick raid- you're doing it wrong- and I will never care what your KD is.
Edit1: I find it interesting the number of replies telling me to mind my own business. Well that's exactly what I did. Instead of giving the guy a hard time I simply thought I would post here as a reminder that this game will never matter as much as your actual life.
Edit2: I'd like to add that this is one example of MANY. I'm a year one player. I could probably tell you 100 different instances over the years of flat out neglect. I personally know someone divorced because of this game. Please understand that this is not out of "assumption."

I for one appreciate what you're saying. It's all too easy to get overly focused on a game, any game, snd forget what matters most. I wish I could say it never happened to me.

The was a guy in I think Washington or Oregon who beat his kid to death with his Xbox remote over destiny. Like 1 or 2yrs ago
-
3 RepliesI'm soooo glad you made this post! I mean, I gave my kids up for adoption bc this game; I don't see why he just doesn't do the same!
-
Great bait mate

A second thought that goes along with this topic.. If you don't have time for kids, DONT HAVE KIDS. Not that hard of a concept to grasp.

1 ReplyI was playing a nightfall with a guy from lfg and in the middle of it he started screaming at his mom for walking in front of the tv. Next thing I know I heard a loud crash and he left. Btw he sounded like he was 30+

Ive found it crazy how many hours people have put into this. Im a day one player and only have about 850 hours. Thats still a lot imo but its not 3000+ that i have seen many players have. Heck over the past 2 years i maybe have 4000 hours pf gaming across all my games not just on oneand i wasnt even able to work most of last year due to a major back surgery. I mean the game came out in September of 2014 and those with 3000+ hours means they have spent almost 4 hours a day on the game for over 2 years... I wont be the one to tell people what to do with their lives but sometimes it seems excessive, especially on one game only.

Agree completely.

Sounds like the brat should have moved out of the dang way!
-
Well...that's depressing. I love this game; I really do. But, if there's a choice between the game and spending time with my daughter, then my daughter wins out. I can walk away from the game; I can't walk away from her.

Had something similar happen once. Met a random in the tower for some CoE and his Mike was hot. Listened to his wife or girlfriend yell at him about how he was not being a father and playing with his daughter. On a side note though just because you hear something like that it doesn't mean that's how that person is all the time. Maybe he played with his kid a lot but just got fed up in that moment.

Edited by CatsOnPluto: 1/3/2017 6:48:43 PMThat's so -blam!-ing sad. Like actually terrible. 😭
-
This is just a video game after all. People take it so damn seriously, idk why. Online PvP video games are almost all toxic in general with blown egos. Wow, congrats, you're better than me at a video game. That must be the ultimate accomplishment in life.
-
7 RepliesThat's what's wrong with the world now. Too many dead beat parents, thst don't spend timr raising their kids but instead let a TV or electronic do their parenting. Ridiculous. All that's gonna happen is the kids grow up thinking it's normal, all -blam!-ed up, and then do the same to theirs. Just sad man, just sad.

1 ReplyEdited by ZedsDeadd__: 1/3/2017 12:11:51 PMWhat is the point of this thread exactly? Who seriously cares what other people do? For all u know this guy has been with his kids all day and just wants a bit of time for himself, I see no problem in that

Family first.

15 RepliesIt's good that you care. But what exactly are you caring for? This crying child? Or your perception? Better to see the world for what it is rather than what you think it should be. No snowflake falls in an inappropriate place.

True story. Also remember that every time a player goes afk or drops from a match/strike/ raid, it's not to be a jerk. They very well could have something going on over on their end that they didn't expect. There have been times for myself that I've had to just swipe the power button on my Xbox and run for a family member. It happens.

Just as bad are the people who make raid requirements super high light same day as a raid drops... like we work people. Expansions come out on a Tuesday and raids usually drop that Friday... A lot of players work 5 days a week. They wouldn't have gotten to play very much since release on Tuesday to raid drop on Friday. As long as they're close to what the raid recommends they can do it. Trust me I started wrath of the machine below 350 and got to Aksis that run then beat him just shortly after light leveling to maybe 360ish.

Bump!

Agree with the OP that real life takes precedent over video games. Still doesn't mean that endgame quality loot should not come ONLY from endgame content like it did in Y1. We need a reason to play the endgame. The elite-tier loot shouldn't be available via quest or in the intermediate content like it is in Y1. These changes to satisfy casuals is what has made the endgame PVE content irrelevant. Infusion resolved the two major issues casuals complained of in Y1. That being that 1) there was no path to max light outside of the raid/IB, and 2) that they couldn't get all the elite endgame loot before it became obsolete. Now, you can hit max light without setting foot inside the raid and your gear can always be brought up to current light levels. No excuses for Y2 to remain the garbage fest it is other than the fact its screwed up beyond repair now. Need to hit the hard reset button on this tish and bring back the Y1 fun, with solutions for the actual issues that plagued Y1.

Edited by RichGhost77: 1/3/2017 4:16:35 PMNo it doesn't. You're born, you acquire more and more atoms of the universe, you kill some time, then you die and those atoms go back to the universe. Have a great day!
Aside from that cheerful thought, It does make me feel sick when i hear these Father-of-the-years neglecting their children to play a video game
Good post! But this goes without saying, apply this to everything superficial in life.
-
I get what you're saying but oh boy have you sparked some trolls on here

The other day a player with over 200 days played gave me crap for being "lasy". He was not a streamer, just someone who has put in a 40-hour workweek every week since launch. I love destiny, but I cannot fathom that much time spent on one thing.
