I highly recommend this game. It's one of the best games I've played in a while. While I'm still learning new things myself, here are a few starter tips and tricks:
• If this IS your first play through PICK THE STANDARD FARM. It's easy to plant things and place buildings. The other farm layouts I would only recommend to players who have played the game before.
• If you aren't wanting to grab an entire stack of something, click X over that item to take one or however many you need.
• The first day of every month is SO important. When you get out of bed pick up those parsnip seeds. Make some space to plant crops. Clear trees and rocks and till the land with your hoe.
• Head to Pierre's and buy as many of every seed that you can. Check your map if you don't know where his shop is. Keep in mind almost EVERYTHING opens at 9:00. (With a few exceptions, but you'll get used to the times the more you play)
• Don't rush through your days. There is always something you can do. If you're waiting for crops to grow, something to be built, or anything like that, don't sleep to rush through it. Mine, fish, or even clear your land.
• Need money? Fish and mine. Fishing is my personal favorite but mining is always good too. Its even better on days where you have a lot of luck.
• Don't. Sell. Everything. There's always a use for everything. Later when you unlock a building called the Community Center and that place has things called bundles which require you to collect things like fish, ores, crops and a butt load of other things.
• One man's trash is another man's useful items. Any trash you find, save. There's a machine you will unlock that transforms trash to goodies that you need and want.
• Animals do not need to be fenced in. They won't touch your crops and they'll go back to their coop/barn at around 6:00. Make sure you close the barn/coop doors or it will upset your animals.
• Buy a silo before a coop. You won't have any feed if you do the vice versa.
• Checking the TV in the morning can tell you what tomorrow's weather will be like, cooking recipe's, farming tips, and even whether the RNG will be on your side.
• Use your money wisely. I know that Rarecrow looks tantalizing but leave it alone till you can actually waste money. Spend money on seeds and upgrading buildings/tools.
• Always carry your hoe with you. No matter where you're going or what you're doing carry your hoe with you. If you ever see little squiggly worm looking things in the ground, hit them with that hoe and it will drop artifacts, lost books, and other goodies.
• Make sure you always carry food and a weapon into the mines. It's dangerous to go alone :)
• Don't sell any ore. Don't sell and wood or hardwood. Don't sell ANY stone. You will need it, I promise.
• Wait to crack open geodes on lucky days. You'll get artifacts and good ore.
• Go to sleep before 1:00 AM. You will falls asleep at 2:00 AM, so be safe not sorry. You can lose money from this.
• Leave Joja Co. alone. Buying from them is not only more expensive but it's also one way to ruin a good game. Just trust me.
• Keep a look out for birthdays. Befriending people and giving them gifts is a good way to get free gifts, recipes and achievements.
Here a few smaller tips:
• Night begins at 6:00 pm
• Takes 2 days to upgrade tools so plan accordingly
• Your dog/cat is just for aesthetics/companionship. It needs no care. You can pet it though :)
• Using the back button (the one opposite to your start button) will open the Journal
• The Y button will open the crafting tab
• In your options, you can turn on "Always show hit tool location", this will show where you're hitting if you're having a rough time
• Keep and eye on your energy bar
• Outside of Pierre's there is a calendar with birthdays/events and also sometimes a quest
• Hats have no affect, they're just there for looks
Best money culminating crops for each season:
Spring - Strawberries, potatoes, cauliflowers, green beans, and rhubarb (this can only be purchased from the desert)
Summer - Blueberries, starfruits (same as rhubarb), hops, melons, and tomatoes
Fall - Cranberries, pumpkins, grapes, artichokes, and rare seed (from the Gypsy Wagon near the Wizard's Tower)
The more I play, the more I'll update this giant list. Multiplayer is coming so you can be sure I'll be updating this a lot. Thank you for all who have read and learned something.

8 RepliesI almost feel like I need to try this, just to see how on Earth it could possibly be fun.

3 RepliesSomething i found that is useful. You can fence your animals in and plant grass starter(or fence in an area that has tall grass already) and the animals will graze on that. It doesnt work in winter though so having a silo is still a good idea.
