The BEST game mode for Iron Banner?

After playing Iron Banner for years now, there are plenty of positives and negatives in each of the 3 game modes Iron Banner is centred around. The positives are usually how Solo Queue friendly they are, compared to Fireteam heavy games. The negatives are often aimed at the gun variety and being matched against full/partial fireteams. In my opinion, which will be swiftly attacked, Rift is the best game mode so far however I do hope for a trial run of Mayhem. Here is why I think Rift is a better game mode, overall, compared to Control and Clash. Positives In my experience the matches rarely go to time, the players are constantly moving and generally the weapon loadout will vary from Autos, HC and Pulse Rifles. 1 of 3 outcomes will happen in rift, a). The game is fairly even with regards to scoring and how close the match ends b). You crush them c). You get mercy ruled upon Although every game mode has this, its the ratio in which Rift makes for a better game mode. Games rarely run to time and they will be fast paced, albeit sometimes completely out of your favour. In the matches that are even; its fun and engaging because you still have a chance at winning. In matches you get mercy ruled, big deal the game is over within minutes and you are removed from that lobby and re-matched elsewhere. Hopefully quick and easy loot :D There are some negatives, centred mostly around your team mates. All game modes for IB suffer this issue but it makes it a bit more frustrating in Rift because you have 1 spark between 5 of your team mates and 6 opponents and quite often one player will rush to grab it, and die immediately which gives away points to the other team. And with Rift being quite CQC orientated, you will see a lot of shotguns and for those who are defending, a lot of team fire, but that's just fair game. They aren't going to let you in easy are they? Compare this to the negatives of Clash and Control Control There are a lot of maps that are clearly uneven and give a hefty advantage to the other team. Namely Shores of Time, you can probably name a few more. Maps like Vertigo and Widows Court are easier to cap A & C because of Distance and Teleporting. That shouldn't be a thing. Triple Cap is still a thing even after 2 years since Destiny's release, people still triple cap which flips the spawns and all of a sudden 4 players spawn around you, clear out A/B and your team mates. I have lost a fair amount of games because players get lazy or greedy and triple cap, immediately Die and flip the spawns. Control also promotes team work, which means fire teams are plentiful in IB and it makes for a less positive experience in Solo Queue. Clash Much like control, your random team mates who just Rambo about the map feeding the other team kills is a serious problem at times and will cost you the match no problem. 1 player grabbing heavy and dying straight afterward, and the worst of all. Camping. Because there is no objective to keep players moving, teams will camp at the back of the map with snipers and most of the time, clash runs to time and it makes for a long and tedious IB. Its very tiring playing Clash over and over, and the bounties don't help matters either. There are too many negatives compared to Rift, but I am hoping Mayhem Clash is a thing next time, that would but excellent fun. Thoughts?

  • As far as I'm concerned control is by far the best. Rift puts too much emphasis on teamwork in my opinion. Iron banner is one of the best ways for a solo players to level up. It would be nice if the game mode catered to that. It's too easy for fireteams to destroy at rift. With control, there are multiple objectives and the priority is constantly changing between them. This lessens the effects of an organized fireteam in regards to rift where there is only one objective and the difference in organization meets head on and in one place. Organized fireteams still have an advantage in control, but they all can't be covering all of the objectives at once. You either are able to avoid the fireteam, or they're spread out and can't teamshoot you. There's also spawn camping in rift... As for clash, it's just boring. No objective, just deathmatch. Control gives you something to do in addition to killing the other team so I find it more engaging.

    • I'm usually a Control guy both in regular Crucible and IB. But IB Rift has been pretty amazing today. I haven't played much in the last few weeks but I'm having a lot of fun.

Supremacy isn't worse then rift imo. Shotguns made supremacy feel bad.

      • I think you white-washed Rifts problem, and hyped up the problems with both Control and Clash. 1. Running as a Fireteam against a team of randos, gives a FT a HUGE advantage in Rift. Because Rift is decided less by individual skill than it is by team play and map control. 2. Playing Rift in a situation where you're stuck with "team mates" who just kill farm and refuse to play to the objective is just miserable. Especially if you're a solo player trying to rank up to get vendor gear...and therefore need to win. That path from Rank 3 to 5 after the bounties are all done can be REALLY brutal. Nothing is worse than trying to play Rift when you only one of two people on your team who's even willing to contest for possession of the spark, and the only one willing to defend the Rift. 3. Bottomline, Rift is all-or-nothing. When you're playing with a full fireteam....or a group of randos who understand how its played and wiling to play to the objective? Its a LOT of fun. But if you're in the reverse of that situation: soloing with randos who won't play together and won't play to the objective AND you're going up against a good team? Its Hell on Earth. Its only saving grace being that you're stint in Hell will be brief because you'll get mercied pretty damn fast. 4. While the camping in Clash is a PITA...and players who won't play to the objective a frustration in Control. Both of those are play modes where a small number of good players, playng to win, can still carry a team. That ain't happening in Rift.

      • Clash since everyone plays IB likes it's clash anyways, regardless of the game mode

      • No matter what game mode Iron Banner is, the majority of players play it like clash, why bother with any other mode?

          • All though I'm not a huge fan Supremacy makes players move around the map in order to collect the crests from the enemies they slay. This fluid style of game is different from both Control or Clash where you can capture and then hold or camp. Rift is basically all game modes in one. You capture, camp, and move throughout the course of a Rift game. My favourite 6V6 mode would have to be Control.

          • Supremacy's pretty good. Unlike the other modes, you can't camp in the back of them map hoping to win by kills... You can, but your teammates need to be picking up the crests. You have to run around play the objective in that mode, otherwise you're racking up Medallions the entire time. Shotguns *cough* Matador *cough* are rampant in that mode, but it's nothing a good sidearm or fusion rifle can't stop. It's the most fast-paced mode also, so matches end really quick, maybe faster than Clash.

          • Control (even zone control), clash and supremacy. This was the first I played IB rift (let alone rift) and even for a solo player like me I find rift actually fun.

          • Don't forget the first IB for RoI was supremacy. I love playing control. I'll play that mode about 75% of the time, followed by clash, skirmish and elimination. My only issue is majority of the players don't play the objective. What I've noticed this week in rift is the number of teams that only use the spark as bait. It's sad when I lead the team in carries.

          • They should only do clash seems like all i see are people complaining about people not plating the objective in any other game mode. But if they really want to see these forums burn I'd say let's do iron banner zone control.

            • I want Control back, most fun team-based game IMO and allows for most all subclasses to shine, including bubble. you ever done bubble city on control?--effin awesome fun. plus Control funnels everyone to 3 hotspots so easy to rack up big killstreaks and drop them airstrikes and nukes;0 holla at me: https://www.twitch.tv/burro402xo

            • Clash, Control or maybe Mayhem Clash. IB should never be a game type where lag can significantly influence the outcome. Teleporting, indestrucible red bars running the spark in Rift or not being able to pick up crests in Supremacy should make this obvious to Bungie.

              • I can't be sure because I don't have access to the new Iron Banner trophies, but most of the ones I remember were about killing the enemy. Since the focus of Banner seems to be pure destruction, I am of the mind that if the event had to be locked into one game mode, Clash would make the most sense. Of all the 6v6 modes, it is the most combat-focused. Only Rumble is more about fighting, because it deletes all teams. Iron Banner Rumble would be an interesting experiment, btw. My personal fave is Rift. I enjoyed that Iron Banner more than I did any other. I tried to find a way to rent or borrow a PS4 so I could participate in this one, for crying out loud (in all fairness, the Dawning and getting back my profile/grimoire were also a factor). Obviously, I didn't succeed. If I had, I probably wouldn't be wasting time in the forums right now.
