How to not be a red shirt in titanfall 2?

If you don't know about the meme, it's that in star trek the people who wear red shirts die a lot. I'm VERY bad at titanfall 2, and I almost can't play it because losing games of attrition on my own is no fun. How can I get kills and not die?

    • I'm guessing you've heard this one before but... A stormtrooper and a redshirt get into a fight. What happens?
the stormtrooper misses every shot but the redshirt dies anyway

sorry I'll show myself out
• 201 is a great base assault rifle. Any weapon can drop players in a few well placed shots. Just be were they don't expect you to not were they do.

      • Find a gun and titan that fits your play style. Like good cqb spray and good burst fire? Flatline might be your best choice Like being up close and personal? Use scorch with nuke eject and thermite shield perk

          • Use the hemlock. Or just hang back a bit, try to be cautious and get a feel for where people usually go during the match (like eden, regardless of the game mode, 2 or 3 people will be ontop of those tracks). Try to find ways to flank people in these areas Of course, there are also other things to work on, like aiming and strafing, incase you are caught in straight up gun fight. Gotta be able to land more shots than they can, but that goes without saying

Cloak and use any perks that allows your tactical to recharge faster. As long as you are killing stuff you can keep your self hidden.also since it's attrition working on picking off Ai and Titans so even if you are not great at taking out pilots you can contribute to your team. One game I ended up in first for my team just with 50 AI kills

Play some pilot vs pilot and titan vs titan, those gametypes are simple and really give you the chance to use the games primary assets, parkour and giant robots. I strongly recommend using pulse blade if you're not already, it's the meta now but its one of the more useful abilities available. Play often, you never give up, the game takes some time to get used to but once your acclimated you'll never want to go back to any other game. When you're comfortable with the controls, feel free to then experiment with different abilities and titans. I'm currently using hologram and ronin and having an absolute blast with both.

                • Learn to move quickly. Don't ADS with an SMG (seriously, their hipfire is near sniper rifle status) CONSTANTLY BE MOVING Wall run as much as possible & slide on the ground when you dismount the wallrun to maintain your velocity to hop back onto another wall.

Play the edges of the map and look for opportunities since you're trying to improve performance. Learn the maps because players use the same areas over and over again. Use stim to get from a to b fast. You don't have to wall run to be good. I don't wall run everything and I'm a g8 with 8000 kills and 450 wins. Titans use corners, flank aka look for opportunities.

                • Speed....speed...and speed. Work on twitch response. Depending on ur rank, the r-201 is probably ur best best, or the car. As for ability, use ur cloak often, it'll keep you alive longer.

                • Take it slow. Don't rush. Get your bearings on all the maps, and understand the vantage points, lanes you can shoot down. If you really need to. Set up a custom game, and get the movent down on the maps. Watch YouTube videos to see strategies, and tips. Remember that your progression will happen, but not overnight. Just don't give up. Good luck pilot.

                • Your radar tells you where the enemy spawns so just keep track of that (it moves) and then watch the likely path they will take from the spawn. Or you can watch the spawns and run along the outside and try to flank
