Lets Talk... The "Matador 64" Archetype

Rather than rant about how "OP" and "broken" this style of shotgun is let's have a serious discussion about what's wrong and how to fix it. Most guns in Destiny are balanced on a rate of fire vs damage ratio as to achieve an across the board DPS equivalence (of coarse time to kill is more important) but the problem with shotguns is that all of them can one shot kill so how fast you can shoot becomes less important and how far away you can one shot kill is more important so a faster firing shotgun is inevitably weaker the faster it is so this system does not work so I suggest a different balance. The range stat would not work because the net of the damage to range would just balance out to all shotguns having the same kill range which would result in faster firing shotguns being better thus reversing the problem. So my suggestion is make damage directly affect magazine size (including reserve). For example a matador would have 2 shots in the magazine 3 with extended mag. While a faster firing shotgun would have like 7 or 8 shots making them more desirable for sprees and full auto and discouraging the use of rifled barrel on high impact shotguns because reload would become much more important. Let me put it simply like this. With a primary you can get two maybe three kills with some effort before having to reload while with the current state of shotguns you can get 5 or 6 kills before reloading without any effort every bullet in your magazine is equivalent to a kill and so the more lethal shotguns should have less ammo (kills) per reload while the less reliable faster firing shotguns should have a larger magazine so their kill potential goes up. It can shoot more bullets it should have more bullets, right? Thoughts?

    • Intresting... But a little extreme i might accept a mag going from 5 to 3 but 2 or 1 is a bit much. Personally i think ROT for all shotguns should be universal and have shotguns balanced impact/range. This being said, i have no real issue with the matador 64. Its sorming as its suppose to, and doesnt really need a nerf. But i respect your opinion and value your solution

        That's not going to solve the issue. The only problem with matador is that the other specials aren't competition. You buff the specials and primaries then people won't feel the need to use it. It's that simple. We do not need to continue to nerf weapons. The matador archetype has existed since the game came out, yet this is the first meta where it is truly dominant. Why? Because until now, it had actual competition. When the game came out, fusions and snipers were what people today would consider overpowered. Yet the felwinter's wasn't a popular weapon. During the blink/shotgun meta shotguns weren't used as much as they are now, because snipers were still strong and thorn/tlw were able to put shotgun users down before they could get close. The previous sniper meta had the party crasher as well as Conspiracy theory which was given out with a god roll yet snipers were the problem, not shotguns. You want to solve the shotgun issue? Stop being afraid of weapons being over powered and start buffing things instead of nerfing weapons, changing perks, and trying to stop people from shooting you. You're digging too deep. It's not that complicated.
