Extremely unorthodox way to help primaries without nerfing shotguns

This could be an extremely weird suggestion but I think it at least gets to thinking outside the box So they added flinch to snipers so primaries would be more effective against them right? So hear me out. What if a mechanic was added that decreased Sprint speed from sustained damage from a primary? Essentially a "flinch" for shotguns. It could do that or maybe suppress some other ability like sliding or double jumping. This would make it harder to close the gap when being shot by a primary if you're rushing with a shotgun. Maybe add it as a perk on primaries or just a blanket update on the class idk but it's an idea. What do you guys think?

  • I think this would only impact juggernaut titans. Gears of War has that same mechanic built in, which works great. But CoGs are tankier than guardians.

    • I don't really think most primaries are meant to combat shotguns (TLW would be an exception). I personally use sidearms to keep shotgunners in check.

          • Counter Strike has that and it works there. But I think since Destiny relies on fast movement way more than that game it wouldn't work as well. Maybe if it only applied when shooting someone witha shotgun equipped and the slowdowb isnt too extreme. Nice thought anyway.

            • Is that fair if it's shotgun specific like that? It should affect guardians equally no matter the weapon. Only be affected by subclass armor choices. I'm not saying its a bad idea.

              • Bad idea. Shotguns already have a movement speed penalty and can be flinched enough to miss shots.

                • What you are talking about is stopping power and it is already in the game. Just more noticeable with autos. Also recovery determines how much your character is affected by stopping power.

                    • So, a toned-down version of Sprint from Halo:5 Guardians? That could be interesting. For those who do not know, when sprinting in Halo:5, unless your SPARTAN reaches full speed, they can be knocked out of Sprint by any Firearm.

                            One of the most satisfying mechanics of Destiny is the movement. Gliding, jumping, hovering, sprinting, dodging, etc. It feels good to keep the flow going. I don't see how having all of that interrupted whenever some yahoo sprays you with a Clever Dragon will make the game more fun, let alone trust Bungie to smartly implement such a mechanic in a way that does more good than harm.

                                    • Wanna fix shotguns? Simple, just remove the sniper damage and zoom nerfs. Keep the flinch as too give primaries a chance. [spoiler]shotguns have been nerf 5 times already, plz leave shotties alone.[/spoiler]

                                        I think the stagger should be more severe depending on what archetype of Shotgun you're using. Things like the Matador should suffer the most from it, while things like the Stolen Will should suffer the least. (Make up a logical reason like Impact=Weight which makes stagger worse) Keep this penalty exclusive to Shotguns and I think it'll keep them in place. Sniper Rifles have flinch, Fusion Rifles have their charge time, and Shotguns would have their stagger. [spoiler]Sidearms are just Sidearms[/spoiler]

                                        • I don't get what they were thinking when creating these shotguns. High impact and high range shotgun or low impact and low range shotgun. Erm, how about make all shotguns usable and make them high impact, low range and then a high range, low impact. Evens everything out.

                                            • The only change needed is to reduce the range of the highest range/impact shotties. They simply kill from too far away and are easy to do so with. That is the reason you see so many in pvp and no other.
