this has become a very hot topic, everyday ill see another saying they were attacked. and they lost there match. yes it happens but not as frequent as people say on here.
was it an attack or was just a network error?
today im going tell you how you can tell if youve truly been attacked.
1st you'll see your now offline.
2nd it will be hard to get back online, without messing with your connection.
3rd unless you have a separate internet for your console, youll see your entire house become corrupted.
4th all internet linked to the account( wifi devices connected) will be slower or not work when connected to the attacked modem
5th this wont go away on its own
6th you must cleanse the attacked internet device(modem or router, or central wired system) the easiest way is to reset it. if that doesnt work then you were hit by someone who has planted a seed into you device which it assessed your internet from. you must reset that device to get rid that seed
next time you get lagged out of a game just loose connection, but everything else in your house works know you werent attacked just a connection issue. these are common when large memory is being sent through your signal to another then going back ( in that cycle ). it sucks but it happens when theres a strain on the two connects it cuts one end off.
EDIT: since this a semi long post here your potato

Must be something like that. Ive had my share of disconnects but once I got hit and the whole home network went down for a good while.

6 RepliesEdited by Weyoun Keeper of Wontons: 11/6/2016 4:26:23 PMI noticed yesterday night while in the tower I was green bar these two other gaurdians came in and next thing you know everyone was red bar. There had to be about 10 other people there before they showed up. Once those two left back to green bar.

ITS CALLED F'ing LAG AND GETTING DISCONNECTED

1 ReplyEdited by Sherpa: 11/6/2016 5:24:49 AMThis isn't always the case DOS attacks can be used to literally just lag players out It's much harder to do and requires a higher end booter (putty / other IRCs) but with the correct amount of packets it can lag you just enough to disconnect you from destiny servers (usually resulting in error code caterpillar) while basic stressors / booters will kick you offline completely they do not brick your internet access it's only a brief disconnect. Extended periods are DDoS's However 9 times out of 10 you just had a connection problem. If you really want to check for a DOS just open your net- stat in the command prompt. Open your routers packet history etc. check for spikes / suspicious IPs in the traffic history What you're describing OP is a DDoS which usually uses a botnet over the typical IP stresses or booter

Multiple times back in house of wolves. Especially when I was carrying. If it was just a fun run, almost never.

You forgot to add your teammates can be kicked as a sign before you. I was in a team and we had 6 wins so it's game 7. We are up 3-0. Last two rounds only two people engage and we kill last guy crouching in a corner. Both my teammates are kicked out of game and party chat. Round 4-5 I am bum rushed by all three. I lose both times. Round 6 I use super and kill the team. Round 7 they don't rush and I get kicked out of destiny. I had no internet until I rest the router. I get back online and we all report the team. I check the team's stats and they had won matches 3v1 or by default. We report and three weeks later we got an message saying action had been taken. We never reported anyone else and we all got the action message on same day. With that said that only happened ONCE.

It happened to me before I was scared lol

2 RepliesSorry but that is not entirely accurate. While I agree that the majority of single system disconnects is caused by lagging out...saying that losing one device and not others means you weren't attacked is too much of a simplification and rather unfounded. While it is probably not the preferred method of "casual" DDOS-ers because it requires a little more tech savvy-ness... it is entirely possible (with the right tools) to attack and flood one single asset in a connection or network of connections while leaving others (appearing) fully operational (they will generally slow down...so they are not entirely operational). On an OSI level it is even possible to target applications specifically because of the layered structure of connections...and while the majority of ddos attacks take the form of brute force flooding...there are attacks that target the application (user interface layer) of a user.

18 RepliesEdited by Cosmic Zaa: 11/6/2016 4:15:50 PMThe real thing you should do when DDoS'd is NOT report to Bungie (this will get their account banned, but DDoS'ers usually use second accounts to DDOS.), but to report them to Microsoft/Sony to get their Console Banned. Theyll have to buy another console and that should be a decent warning sign. Edit: People sometimes use their primary account when DDOS/DOSing people. But that doesnt stop them from making a second account if they get banned for it. Blocking their whole console entirely will, in the long run, do more to stop them.

3 RepliesLike I've said before- never was ddosed in year 2. It's happened 3 weekends in a row since ROI. So pissed at Bungie that I spend 30 dollars plus 25 for radiant treasures and emotes just to deal with -blam!-ing cheaters that kick my friends when we play trials. Bought titanfall2 a couple days ago and Im actually able to enjoy my game time for once. No lag, no cheaters, no RNG bullshit.

1 ReplyNot at all recently but I'm Y1 over 20+ times Always at the 8th win to...never went flawless in Y1 because of it...still upset that we don't have dedicated servers
-
2 RepliesYou know what's strange? People only get "DDOSed" when they're at 7 or 8 wins. Just seems suspicious to me.
-
I would not be surprised if the amount of complaints for DDoS are more close to accurate than you think. The amount of people that post on this board are probably only a small subsection of the entirety of Destiny. I can personally say I have been DDoSed multiple times during the time I played Destiny before I quit, now that I am coming back I don't look forward to the next time it happens. I actually work in technical support for a large ISP and field lots of calls from gamers that get DDoSed, This post is pretty accurate. Keep in mind many new routers have DDoS protection in them that can sometimes save you from an attack but in no way is it always going to work. Hopefully the attacker stops once they get the win but if the attacker keeps at it for an extended period of time you can fix your connection by changing your IP. If you change the CPE attached to your modem it will get a new lease. Do this by cloning your mac in the router or if you have an old router just switch to it until you think the DDoS has ended and switch back to your original router. You will need to powercycle your modem when changing devices in and out.

4 RepliesIt's kind of pathetic when people have to cheat to get a videogame item/s. It sucks for the legit players.
-
Twice. Once last week and once this week. And i dont go and say people are cheating unless i can prove it. I know lag is a usual issue. But these times were ddos attacks. Bungie needs to do something its getting crazy. Too many cheaters -blam!-ing up good players i cant take it anymore. Im just waiting until i get kicked off while my mother is working (shes a medical transcriptionist over the internet) and ruin her work for the day cuz then im calling up my lawyer and taking bungie down. And i have a really good lawyer ;) so do your -blam!-ing job already bungie 2 years and you still cant figure things out
-
4 RepliesVictims of cheating should get an automatic Flawless, and, 'God roll' Weapons and Gear! Cheaters should get an automatic permanent ban. That would make cheating benefit the victim. Nothing else would deter those willing to do anything to get a 'win'... Until the act of cheating is made so unprofitable no one would do it, this problem will remain...
-
Lol. That's why trials is a joke.
-
4 RepliesThis is one of the reasons why I do not even bother with Destiny when ToO is going on, I just.... ask for overtime at my job and make more money instead of staying at home getting pissed off.
-
Signed, I have video proof too... but bungie does not give a sh!t
-
It's pretty simple if the fireteam members leave via errorcode within a set amount of time make the game null and void. Also maybe even a report match button.
-
I know I was never attacked but last week in trials (didn't get a chance to play this week) my friends and I were constantly lagging out and even the enemy was too
-
7 RepliesYesterday my team that was a carry team on 7th win We got DDOSED
-
1 Replyi've been in several matches and my gun stops shooting in a fire fight. i reload after every use of the trigger and have ammo. what causes my gun to quit shooting? same thing happens to my daughter... yesterday was bad.

3 RepliesEdited by Dooodley: 11/6/2016 5:35:48 PMI can't to 100 % say that this was a DDOS attack but here are the facts: 1. During the three years I've lived in my current place and had my current connection (fiber) I've never had an issue with the connection randomely not working. 2. I'm not a big PvP fan so I've only completed 10 or so passages since the introduction of ToO 3. During one of said passages - I believe it was in Y2 - I was all of a sudden thrown offline. My entire network went down and I couldnt get back online for a good 30 minutes and after I had reset everything. This was in the evening when no one should be working on a fiber station, there were no warnings on my ISP's site and the weather outside was fine. So you tell me. I personally think that people are exaggerating the whole thing but considering how little I play and that this incident happened during one of those few passages I might be completely wrong.

We were in a winning game 3-0 and they had been red bar-ing the entire time, then when I was going for the kill my entire home service dropped and wouldn't reconnect till I unplugged it and waiting for awhile. Yeah, that gets old the first time it happens, it isn't okay and it's rampant.
-
Signed. 2 weeks in a row actually :(
