If the reward is based off RNG, then I don't think it's fair to say that you "earned it". You basically rolled the dice.

2 RepliesTrespasser? Nah. You know what? I earned my Hawkmoon. First Nightfall in Taken King, I got the Hawkmoon to drop. Yes, luck had a lot to do with it, but it dropped for me after completing the hardest strike in the game. 1 week later? XUR sells it. That isn't earning an exotic, that's buying it. No better than buying Radiant Treasures to get the ornament you want, rather than waiting every week. Buying is incredibly different to getting it to drop. And yes, I'm still salty.

I dont think standing there opening exotic engrams is no more "earning" it than buying it from xur, if you went through a tough long quest like the original thorn thats earning it, opening engrams is not, so if you earned yours then them buying it they have earned it to for grinding for the strange coins then waiting for xur to sell it, i got mine out of an exotic engram but i dont see myself earning it more than someone buying it like a complete annoying pleb.
