A Solution to the Primary Elemental Damage Argument [DeeJ, Cozmo, and Luke Smith please read!!!]

I had another thought on Primary Elemental Damage that might placate both sides of this argument. And we all must agree, this is a very emotionally charged argument... Bungie could have utilized their RNG more with the elemental damage, instead of removing elemental damage entirely. Hell, they could even use this idea to reintroduce elemental damage, and I wouldn't mind a bit. Whenever a weapon is generated by the RNG in a loot drop, just have it add in another RNG category for one of the three elemental damage types. Is it a good RNG system at its base? No. Of course not. This RNG will always be broken because of the base flaws in its weighted metrics. But I digress. But it gives every one a 33.3333% chance to get the elemental damage they want on any/all new Legendary and Exotic weapons (because I honestly believe that ALL Legendary and Exotics should have elemental damage). An Elemental Damage type would be guaranteed under this system, but the percentage chance would determine what type of elemental damage would be applied to any given weapon. And I mean ALL Legendary and Exotic weapons. Scouts, Auto Rifles, Pulse Rifles, and Hand Cannons. Our Legendary and Exotic weapons are (by the Lore) supposed to be the absolute pinnacle of Golden Age technology that we as Guardians are only now rediscovering and improving upon. This addition to the RNG and Primary weapons would preserve and amplify that "pinnacle of technology" feeling. Once every Legendary and Exotic rolled by RNG has a burn of one of the three types applied, this would cause weapon diversity to skyrocket. Which was/is the original goal and reason for elemental damage removal. For argument's sake, I will take that at face value.
See? I'm not all vitriol and acerbic commentary. I can compromise too. lol
This fixes the "if weapons had elemental damage, no one would use the wealth of other weapons in the game" argument, and gives people like me my elemental damage back. Weapon diversity would (again) skyrocket, and it would bring droves of people back into this game, as people scrambled and played their butts off to try to get their favorite weapons, but with elemental damage types to use for the many and varied situations in Destiny. Besides, wouldn't it be extraordinarily fun to run around with a Arc/Solar/Void MIDA? Or an A/S/V Red Death? Or an A/S/V Hung Jury? Or an A/S/V Hawksaw? Then the entire wealth of the given weapon pool could not only be used (thus vastly increasing weapon usage diversity), but this game would see a renewed vigor from the Community as they would be infinitely happier to grind their asses off for more and different and varied weapons. Now some people make the argument: "But what about difficulty? PvE is already easy enough, why would we want it easier?" The answer is rather simple. As we see in other games similar to Destiny's declared genre (Online Action RPG), enemies can always be made tougher. They can always be given more Hit Points. Tougher Shields. More and more varied attack patterns. But player "fun". Actually feeling like we're beating back the Darkness... that's what this change would bring back to our weapons, and to us playing our Guardians through the vast potential that the Destiny franchise holds. This would also have a nominal to non-existent effect on PvP. Actually, it would have zero effect on PvP, as elemental damage makes no difference in PvP. Besides, it might actually bring a bit more planning and forethought amongst players before they enter the PvP arena, as our armor in Y2 and Y3 has defenses against the elemental types. this would just add another dimension of depth to game play, except this would add it in for the PvP-focused players. As far as I can see, it's a win/win for both sides of the argument. An added thought... Adding all elemental damage in to the RNG for ALL Legendary and Exotic weapons would also probably get me to not only buy Rise of Iron (because I know Bungie will make that a requirement [I'm not even mad about that...]), but it would get me to invest an ignorant amount of additional time into this game again. This would also get people like me, who may/may not be "on the fence" a very good reason to invest in Destiny 2. Think about it, Bungie. I'd even be willing to come to Bungie's studios to talk about the benefits of this change in person. This would also give you the opportunity to talk to one of your bigger detractors face-to-face, and possibly get me to change my mind and be on your side for the first time since Y2 started.
I also would promise to sign any legally binding Non-Disclosure Agreement that Activision's attorney's might require...
It's a great idea, would be easy to implement, and you know it. So, feed me your thoughts. I hunger for them. Edit= For a solid, well written alternative to my suggestion in this OP, but that still returns elemental damage to Legendary and Exotic weapons; please read BXR Lonestar's post in this very thread. It is well written, and gives an alternative (and just as good) method to Bungie to implement an improved elemental damage system, but that also gives power to the players. It is an excellent read.

I bumped and support this, but rather than have the element be random on the weapon, this is what I would propose: Elemental cores that drop from endgame activities which can be put into your favorite kinetic weapons to give elemental damage. [Edit] I also wanted to note that I think elemental cores could be added to a list of prizes that can drop from public events, but they should be a rare drop so that public events don't replace endgame activities as the way to obtain these items. The drop rate should be something like 3-5% so that if you do 100 public events (which sounds like a lot, but they can go by quickly depending on what planet you are on), you may get 3-5 cores. Why would this be better than RNG?: 1. It allows another layer of customization - PLAYERS create the diversity with the weapons they like most; 2. It gives a reason to repeatedly grind endgame content (once you have 3 primaries in each flavor, you'll want to upgrade ALL your primaries). 3. It allows you to keep a great kinetic damage roll on a weapon and hold out for the proper elemental core to drop if you want it to have a specific kind of damage, rather than force you to scrap it because it didn't drop with the right elemental burn or perks. In this way, the system is more player-friendly than it would be if the gun simply had RNG burns as well as perks. 4. It gives us options down the road. Perhaps unwanted elemental cores can be exchanged for the burn you want once a week at a trader, or perhaps traded for the special Silver packaged, or dismantled for rep. Also, in response to this:
Now some people make the argument: "But what about difficulty? PvE is already easy enough, why would we want it easier?"
Sure, the game is completable with kinetic primaries, but it is not as FUN as it used to be. Elemental burn weapons on primaries gives us a sense of progression, even if it is an artificial one. In Burn activities, we receive a damage buff (doubly so if its small arms + burn), and outside of burn activities, it allows us to crack shields without wasting a FULL magazine to do so. Very useful IMO. Also, bear in mind that in most activities outside of the Nightfall, Raid, and IB/Trials, your effective light level is capped at a certain point so that you are not doing millions of damage to low level enemies because you are MUCH higher light level than they are. This is done to preserve the sense of a challenge and it is why a level 4 dreg can kill you in the cosmodrome if you are stupid, and why you can only head shot them for 1k damage or less. Whether this system should exist is a different topic for debate, but this much is clear: Adding elemental primaries allows this structure to stay in place while STILL allowing you to feel that sense of power progression, even under those conditions. You would be able to crack shields in a shot or 2 rather than using up a full magazine or more, even if your shots did the same amount of damage once the shield dropped. Why do we need a sense of power progression? This is a loot-based MMO with RPG elements. We grind and grind and grind for loot, and at the end of the day, we want to know that the grinding made a difference. Why grind for light level when it is functionally capped for most activities? That reduces your sense of progression, rather than increases it. If light level isn't going to be the thing that allows us to feel that sense of progression, then it must be done through the gear and guns we get. Which is why we need elemental primaries to return. It is ALSO why I have advocated for RNG-only elite weapons to drop again like they did in Y1. Ultimately, PVE players won't get that sense of power progression unless they get weapons that reduce grind. And the reduction in grind, IMO is NECESSARY in a game like Destiny, where we are stuck replaying the same content over and over in a repetitive grind. At least when you get a weapon that reduces grind, it changes your relationship to the grind by making it much less tedious and boring. It is actually FUN and EXCITING to feel strong. Finally, if you don't want to use elemental primaries - nobody would make you use them. What someone else uses in PVE doesn't affect you in any way, shape or form. So even if they implement the elemental core system, you can choose to take advantage of it or not take advantage of it. That power is ALSO in the player's hands. If you choose not to use it, you do so presumably with full knowledge and understanding of the consequences of that choice. So then you have no right to complain. Bottom line: I respect your decision to choose not to use elemental primaries. Why can't you respect my choice and desire to have access to them and use them? Remember: Elemental primaries have ZERO effect in PVP...Just saying...
