Hello all, this is my first post on Bungie forums. Previously I've been on reddit, but have wanted to start reading posting here. Here's my first weapon guide I'm posting here, covering how to use the No Land Beyond. Enjoy folks :)
Favorable Engagements/Benefits
- Keep to mid/long range engagements - sweetspot at mid range
- Crosshair sway can make long range more difficult than other snipers
- Great way to always have sniper at disposal
- Sniper has hidden perk unflinching; remains accurate even when being shot at
- Use headshot "red dot" (shown in video) to align headshots while being shot by primary weapon and take advantage of unflinching
- More effective against primary fire than other snipers
Limitations
- Avoid close range gunfights, although skilled snipers may be able to make this gun effective at close range, it is still more difficult to use
- Harder to follow up with bodyshots or get 2 shot kills than other snipers
- When out of special ammo, your playstyle is limited due to only having a sniper rifle
Effective Techniques (Video Guide shows visual examples/instructions)
- Aiming for the head is crucial, as it is harder to follow up with body shots as mentioned earlier
- Best technique for headshots is to keep your eyes focused on center of screen, wait for red dot to appear to pull trigger
- "Red Dot" always appears when a headshot is lined up (on any sniper), but is easiest to see on NLB
- "Red Dot" helps as an indication of when to shoot
- "Reload Cancelling" - Button combo to avoid bolt cocking of NLB and fire much faster
- To reload cancel - Fire -> Reload immediately -> Click Sprint forward -> Repeat
Recoil Compensation
- Not much to say here, best way to counter the recoil to make bodyshots easier to follow up with is reload cancelling
- Immediately scope out and reload cancel after shots to counter recoil
Weapon Combos
- NLB works best with shotgun/sidearm
- Shotgun allows for faster/aggressive pushes; potentially more explosive plays
- Use shotgun more as primary and NLB as secondary for range that shotgun can't cover
- Sidearm combo allows for better close-mid range coverage, but still great for very close range that NLB lacks
- Sidearm provides ammo every spawn
- Sidearm allows for better gradual map movement, but still needs to maintain gap from shotgunners
Summary
- Maintain a gap, NLB performs best at mid-long range
- Reload cancelling speeds up weapon drastically, practice and do it instinctively
- Headshots are crucial, use red dot for reference when aiming
- Pair with shotgun/sidearm based on playstyle

- Aiming for the head is crucial
10/10 Good read. I've been purposefully aiming for the body this entire time. Is this true for all snipers?
-
Good vid. Ive been alot better with nlb as of late. Only prob is ill go 5 or 6 matches positive then cant hit bright side of a barn for a couple matches and go negative. Need more practice, but when you're feeling it and hitting shots its hard to beat. The red dot thing is very hard to notice in pvp for me. Great vid, keep it up. Subbed.

2 RepliesSomebody bump for later?

So aside from the glitch which let's u ignore reload animation that doesn't seem to work anymore. Or not at least all the time. This stuff is true. NLB is fun!! I will share a video where I get some great kills with it.

5 RepliesEdited by Vex Mythoclast: 8/29/2016 10:50:44 PMHow do you get it? Primary or secondary engram? Edit: IDK why, but I like the World War II design and have a sudden want for it

Nurf that shit

8 RepliesI've basically treated my NLB like a religious cult. I'm coming up to 8,000 kills with it and a 76% precision kill ratio. I've found that if you a using a Titan, shotgun is the way to combo with NLB. If you are using a Hunter, sidearm all the way. If you are using Warlock then use a fusion rifle. I've mained a NLB + Fusion Rifle set up for about 9 months now. Plus my KD is pretty solid... Proof that you don't have to use meta weapons to do well in Crucible.

13 RepliesI've reloaded canceled a bunch...9 times out of 10 it doesn't fire for 3 seconds as soon as I do it and I die...LOL I know I'm doing it right

3 RepliesThese types of glitches in weapons needs to be patched.

4 RepliesIve been having problems with it lately. Ill shoot them in the head, they flinch and everything but it either gives a body or no damage. But then if I clearly miss, it gives me the headshot. Is anyone else having this problem?

2 RepliesEdited by Artificiarius: 8/28/2016 10:31:03 PMCheck out my NlB/sidearm stormcaller montage. No dubsteppy music or anything crappy like that. 84% precision ratio with over 3k kills with nlb.

12 Replies*loading into trials* hmmm that guy is using a nlb well either we are gonna wreck him or he is gonna wreck us there is no in between

1 Reply6372 and 84% Favourite gun in game

The worst thing is when you miss your first shot and mulligan procs preventing you from reload canceling
-
Very nice guide. It's my go to for crucible, with sidearm. I would state that I find the reload cancel can get a bit buggy and you could find yourself unable to fire. Shoot, shadestep......repeat
-
Or, y'know, you could just use the gun and practice with it.
-
Great guide! I would add that the most important thing to do to get better with NLB is: practice. It'll take a few weeks of awful K/Ds but you'll eventually fall into rhythm.
-
Ssshhhhh don't tell them.
-
1 ReplyOk, good read but you contradict yourself by saying nlb has unflinching by hidden perk and you have to scope out when you get shot at... You see the mistake made here?
nlb is bae
Bump 4 later plz
