What destiny needs to be competitive

Agree for the most part

Disagree completely

As of right now, the most competitive pvp in destiny is 2 teams of 3 matching in classic 3v3 aka "sweats". There are rules also when matching such as no heavy ammo usage, no same subclass, no max armor titans, no luck in the chamber hand cannons, and no exotic armor usage. Also, queen breakers bow and pocket infinity are banned. These rules are in place to make things more balanced and competitive. Also, these rules weren't just voted on by a small group of people, (there's a misconception that people have thinking that only like 5 people make the rules). Also, These rules have gone under good amount of evaluation from top players. Anyways, this game needs to bring back weapon rerolling. The reason for this is because if a game is to be competitive, everyone needs to have access to the best rolls and gear. Right now, because rerolling is no longer a thing, crucible can't really be competitive. If u don't have a god roll, ur at a disadvantage. Rng is a an ok system as it gives a little bit of a grind to getting a item to drop. The problem with the current system is that people are fighting against rng twice, once for the drop, and 2 for the rolls. I believe that players should only have to deal with rng once and be allowed to reroll weapons. This allows players to eventually have complete setups or loadouts which will then allow them to focus on competing. Also, this game needs custom games. Hopefully this is what bungie has been teasing for the past weeks. Anyways, this will allow for people to match up easier as well as set rules easier. Another thing that is probably needed but I don't see coming is dedicated servers. When players are trying to play competitively, they should never worry about their connection. Having dedicated servers I think would rid of this problem. And the last thing, bungie needs to support it. In the end, bungie has to want to make this game competitive. Right now, thanks to top players who truly enjoy and love the game, there is a competitive side of destiny regardless of what anyone says. Yes, the tournament winnings aren't like cod or halo but you got to realize that all of the tournaments in destiny have been privately funded. Anyways, let me know how u guys feel, these r my thoughts on what this game needs to be competitive. Also, to the people who dislike players like gabe, poshy, war, luminosity, sir demetrius, and triplewreck. If it wasn't for people like this looking to compete in destiny, we wouldn't have had these tournaments or competitive side of destiny.

  • In order to make destiny competitive, you need to strip away all the interesting parts about it until you have CoD with jetpacks.

  • Trials? Iron banner? Both competitive looking for the top spot. Clearly you don't play either of them otherwise you would know competitive. And just wait till rise of iron were getting supremacy

  • This seems like an awful lot of effort to waste on PvP at a point when PvE is practically dying from neglect...

This started out looking promising. Then you wandered off into what you personally didn't want to see in a game. No exotic armour and no heavy ammo, I can get on board with that. But no same subclasses? Max armour Titans? Even going so far as to not only exclude weapons, but weapon perks? How is someone ever supposed to find and join a game with this many restrictions in place? Fact of the matter is, PvP is a competitive place already. Why do you think people want to see so many abilities and weapons nerfed on these forums? Because they feel they're losing their competitive edge and want to regain it without putting any real work in. But hey, if exclusion works for you.

      • Ok, I'm going to try and touch on each of your points here, so if I miss something hit me up and I'll correct it. 1: Rerolling- you argument is in my understanding "not everyone has a god roll, so no one can be competitive" but some of the things you can do with "lesser" weapons depends on play style. I can beat a god roll doctrine using a slow RoF pulse by ducking in and out of cover. I can beat a god roll grasp with a hand cannon if I pace my shots. I can beat an LDR by T-bagging as I shoot them. Yes they are more difficult, but you can defeat the meta. 2: At the time you posted this custom matches hadn't been announced yet, so I'm not gonna slam you there. 3: they don't need dedicated servers, the ones they have need to be based off connection instead of skill. 4: the competitive environment is not being supported because that's not what the game was built for. Games that are about being competitive wouldn't see the kind of Meta changes that Destiny sees, and wouldn't have the relaxed attitude that it does. There aren't too many people that say "Your K/D is below X, you are a bad player" because the game isn't designed to be that way. I look forward to continuing a thoughtful debate. SonicMaster25

      • Rerolling weapons -blam!-ed this game up. If you want to play competitive pvp go play counterstrike or overwatch. Destiny was never intended for that.

It's a casual game, go play call of duty or some shit if you want competitive, the only competitive is trials and I'm pretty sure will only be trials

          • In order to balance this game they would have to get rid of perks and make all guns have the same stats (all party crashers have the same range, impact, stability, etc.) I'm not about that. The reroll system did balance the game, because MOST people were running around with God roll shotties and snipers, so everyone had the advantage. I wouldn't bring that system back because it made God rolls so common, my proposal is this: Make a "barebones" playlist. Primary and special only The 1st and 3rd column perks are the only ones that activate in this playlist (meaning different sights or ballistics, and range or stability perks. Of course you'll get the occasional explosive rounds and hc rounds.) No heavy, no exotic armor, no supers. Plus it could be ran on a ranked system so you play against players who are on the same win streak as you. The "casual" side of the game is what makes Destiny different and more fun to me, because I can come here and chill and have fun without constantly playing gods like yourself 😉 I don't want that to be changed, they should just implement and competitive playlist.

            • Top players like you? Here we go again. As stated many times I'd only vote for rerolling if it was limited to once or twice a weapon. Unlimited rerolling is what led to a severely unbalanced crucible because people who had more time on their hands to grind wound up with having resources for unlimited rerolling. Doesn't matter how many times you say it not everyone had the ability to reroll constantly to get the god roll. It created a huge imbalance and that's why Bungie got rid of it. To guess what, it won't come back at all or at least in the same manner that it was before. Bungie will not create things that only caters to a small group of players. Doesn't matter of there the top or the bottom. The game is balanced for everyone. This is just another elitist "I'm a top player" thread to get your top 5% pals God rolls. Just stop already. Regular crucible was never meant to be competitive to that level. Trials is only what it is for the gear and the "ooh look I went flawless".

              • Destiny doesn't NEED to be competitive. People like you that want this game to be competitive are part of why a lot of people don't have fun with the PVP anymore. If you want competitive play in this game then go play trials. Otherwise, you and all your sweaty friends can go play CoD or CS if you want competitive play and leave the rest of us normal players to enjoy our game.

                • Honestly, there are a couple of things that can be done to balance out Crucible in a massive way for competitive that I have been thinking a lot about. I just haven't had the time to sit down and write a post given that I commute to work ten miles round trip by bicycle.

                • Since when has the QBB been banned? No exotics besides pocket infinity and all class specific weapons have been banned. Weapon rerolling shouldn't exist, it should only exist for the first and third tier, not the two perks.

                  • You ask me destiny can't be competitive purely because there are too many variable to balance out, but to comment on what you said. Bringing back rerolling will do nothing except remake the problem in year 1. The problem isn't that god rolls are rarer this year. I like that idea. The problem is that there are so many useless perks. If bungie were to give all weapon archetypes only good weapon perks for that archetype there would be no god rolls because every roll would be a god roll.

I preferred the fast paced, 'less competitive' gameplay of the past in year 1. It was fun, and I'll always have competition whether weapons are strong or weak because they'll always be players on my level or better than me. We will always complain no matter what, though. Everybody complained in year 1 too. Let's have fun and complain, at least! I like having to work for stuff instead of being at an even playing field with everyone else right off the bat. I like the RPG elements of this game, it gives me a reason to keep coming back to the game. Custom games + dedicated servers would be great! Pretty much everyone would get what that wanted if custom games were introduced. Knowing Bungie, they'll only offer private games with no customisation...

                  • I don't want Destiny to be competitive on an e-sport level personally. But your point is spot on with fighting 2 layers of range. I would really like a nice Eyasluna or Party Crasher +1, but I can't get a decent Eyasluna roll and PC I have never even seen (even if it ever drops for me it will just be a junk roll I am sure). I end up spending most of my time trying to get weapons I want, rather than doing what I actually would like to be doing. And so many of them even after a year of trying, I have never even seen a bad roll let alone the roll I want. Loot is just way too rare for how many junk rolls are possible.

                    • I have to disagree. As much as RNG grinds my gears occasionally, I actually like it...to a certain degree. It adds a bit of diversity...sorta. I just feel if everyone had a much higher chance at some of the best gear out there, the game would get more stale than it already is at times.

                        •
Anyways, this game needs to bring back weapon rerolling.
In its HoW state weapon rerolling broke Destiny. It destroyed loot excitement. However there should be a means to modify weapons and armor without spamming over and over until God answers you. Something like perk infusion would do this. If you want, for example, final round on your Conspiracy Theory you have to infuse it from your Next Big Thing which will sacrifice that weapon put place the perk on your Con' Theory.
Another thing that is probably needed but I don't see coming is dedicated servers
Ultimately dedicated servers and Peer to Peer should exist together. Dedicated servers exclusively would lead to players in an international clan/group finding it much harder to have fun together. Allowing an unranked peer to peer option would be useful for this reason.
And the last thing, bungie needs to support it. In the end, bungie has to want to make this game competitive.
This should only happen once Bungie also has the capability to dish out new content to both PVE and PVP players on a regular basis. This has never happened consistently or in enough quantity. We should never forget Destiny is always promoted as a PVE game primarily but the content dries up far too quickly.
