Hey there guardians!,
**(TL;DR at the end.)**
I noticed how a lot of other non-titan guardians thinks that Titan skating is unfair because they think it makes no sense that the "tank" class could achieve more speed than hunters.
So hear me out on this. Yeah as a Hunter myself, I used to be really frustrated when i was getting outrun by Titans at first i though it was unfair at all!
Then, a few weeks ago, I got myself a copy of Overwatch. Now now, i know whats you're saying: "what does Overwatch have to do with all of this -_-".
Well let's just ***PRETEND*** that Destiny's class system now works like in Overwatch.
Okay so, what are "Tanks" or Titans if you'd like. Tanks are the pillar of a team. They are there to protect or capture critcal/strategic points on a certain battlefield and control the flow of a firefight.
You see in Overwatch there's a certain hero named: "Reinhardt" and in one particular scenario, becomes near the fastest hero in the entire game and how? With the use of his "Charge" ability making him able to reach really high speed in a very linear pattern at the cost of a lot of his mobility.
Now, if you don't already know where am going with this, back to Titan skating. This ability of their own makes the average Titan able to reach really high speed but...at the cost of mobility!
So now, why do i think this is fair? Well because Tanks are, like i said, more focused on controlling objectives. And titan skating gives them the ability to reach said objective faster than any other class, filling their roles as tanks! They have to be there first in order to control the flow of the battle!
And as a side note, Titans are not more agile than Hunters. Why?, because there is a big difference between top speed and movement speed. You see, the average Titan gains a lot of linear speed at the cost of their mobility.
But, Hunters, as you already know, will maybe not reach as much speed as Titans when going in a linear pattern, except, hunters have way more bi-directional, vertical mobility and "finesse" than Titans. Filling their role as high mobility offensive class.
So yeah i do think its fair that Titans can outrun Hunters with their skating ability. Since we, hunters have the gift of high mobility.
As for Warlocks, they are the most versatile class. Able to be both an objective focused, support and offensive class. They may not be able to control objectives and the flow of a firefight as well as Titans, nor be as mobile as Hunters, but they can Take a lot of damage on their own and pull out very good offensive abilities.
If you made it all the way here, i hope i didn't waste your time guardians! :D
TL;DR: Titan skating = high linear speed, but less directional mobility. Hunter overall, are more mobile. Warlocks are the most versatile, meaning each combinations has it pros and cons and overall titan skating seems pretty balanced.
Also, keep in mind that all of this thread is based on a personal opinion on the subject, yours may differ. I hope you all have a nice day! :D
*EDIT* do not take the Overwatch comparison for granted, its just to make this whole thing easier to understand since a lot of other guardians tend to compare the 2 games. I do know that classes works very diffrently in destiny.
*EDIT* a lot of guardians brought up the fact that with Shoulder Charge and the use of Twilight Garrison, Titans do not loose enough mobility when skating. To this, my opinion is neutral, as i understand why guardians are upset about this, but i also acknowledge the fact that they have to "spec" in order to achieve that. Same for Hunters who have to spec with Bones of Eao and Controlled jump to gain even more mobility.
*EDIT* the salt level seem to have reached a pretty high amount for mostly unjustified reasons... Please if you did not either read the TL;DR or the actual thread itself, do not leave unhelpful replies... This thread is about looking at something relatively important with a rational mind. Thank you in advance guardians

Titan skating is a problem now?
-
I think titan skating should stay but be slightly less effective. Like 25% less effective. Because going across rusted lands in 5 seconds with twilight garrison and more like 7-8 seconds without it is just too damn fast. P.S. I'm pretty sure the numbers are actually even faster but im not sure.
-
7 RepliesTo be fair, Bungie even said at one point they didn't anticipate people Titan skating in the game. Now with that out of the way, who cares if Titans are the fastest IN A STRAIGHT LINE. All these people talking about how Hunters have awesome agility, but we are out run by Titans. We Hunters do have awesome agility. Don't believe me? Shadestep, blink, double/triple jump and BoE. We have the ability to traverse ANY map quickly. Titans a fast, Hunters are nimble. It's what they are built for. Titans are meant to rush head-on into battle. Hunters use their agility to flank enemies and take them out stealthily. It's class diversity.
-
Reinhardt is faster than -blam!-ing Genji, I can't outrun his hammer unless I have Swift Strike.
-
Read a few of the post on the thread and I don't want to go to far otherwise I'll get dehydrated. After reading this if u disagree grab a dictionary or use ur phone "we all have Google", and look up the definitions to the key words he has and Bungee have specified for these classes. 1. Agile and mobility, look it up and you will think of the Hunter 2. Versatile, look it up you will think of the Warlock 3. Guard/Sentinel/Vanguard, look it up you will think of the Titan. So now I leave this with just a question. If every definition for the word Vanguard means lead position, or out front and most of the synonyms are in fact "front line, front, SPEARHEAD. How can the Titan be any of those without the fastest "sprint" (please look up sprint too) speed amount the character classes?
-
1 ReplyI play all the classes, but I have significantly more time clocked in with my Hunter than any other subclass. With that being said, I think that Titan skating SHOULD be kept in the game. I'm decent at Titan skating now, but it took me several hours of practice to make it decent. Since there is a rather steep learning curve involved in perfecting Titan skating, it should be left alone for the people who are skilled enough to use it.
-
Who cares what you think is fair and what reason you use to defend it. Who cares what people present as a case against it. It's a -blam!-ING game with alien demon lords and robot, wall building, hero characters. People need to explain why they can't have fun in the most cartoony first person shooter since GWF
-
Triple main here, I believe that the ability to skate should be switched to the Catapult perk. This way, increased control will give just that, but not so much of a speed buff, giving a little more diversity to which perk in that tree Titans will use
-
Switch your controller layout to jumper then tell me you lose mobility titan skating. Being able to jump with L1 and look around with right stick has made me dirty with shotguns and shoulder charge.
-
2 RepliesWarlock main here. Titan skating is awesome. I love the physics of the Titan especially with shoulder charge. Having said that. I don't think Titan skating should make a Titan faster than a hunter. Just a thought.
-
2 RepliesThrough twilight garrison if shoulder charge in there, and that "limited mobility" is removed
-
13 RepliesBut striker Titans are very mobile. If you use twilight Garrison and shoulder charge, you are extremely mobile and can easily turn. What about that?

27 RepliesTitan skating is a creative technique that is very rewarding and it shouldn't be nerfed. Titans have 2 offensive supers and a defensive super (aka the bubble). Fist of Havoc is a close range super. The only form of range is Shockwave on the Fist of Havoc tree which goes half as far and fast as Razor's Edge on the Arc Blade tree. Nova Bomb can be thrown across the map and does as much as Fist of Havoc. So, how can Fist of Havoc be as effective as Nova Bomb? Titan skating. Since Warlocks can throw their Nova Bomb at their target(s). Titans can skate to said target(s) and smash. Hammer of Sol is a ranged super that can go as fast as normal Nova Bomb but a small blast radius. So, that makes Hammer of Sol easy to dodge. Hunters can dodge Hammer of Sol with their natural speed. Warlocks can dodge Hammer of Sol with their glide. Flameseeker doesn't help at all. The smaller the distance, the easier it is to aim. So, how could Titans get closer to their targets? Titan skating allows Titans to get closer to running targets and throw their Hammer to get the kill. Last but least is the Ward of Dawn (the Bubble). Ward of Dawn is a super that can't kill. You can't shoot through the Ward of Dawn either. Radiance isn't an offensive super but it shortens cool down of your grenades and melee. Allowing you to spam the grenade button like Oprah. Sure, Titans can get their grenade and melee back by activating Ward of Dawn. But it doesn't shorten the cool down of grenades and melee while sitting in the Ward of Dawn. But at least you and your allies get a buff from the Ward of Dawn to allow protection of a zone. So Titan Skating allows Titans to get to their zone before the enemies do. And one more thing, if other classes want to go fast. Hunters can equip Bones of Eao and increased control and jump like a rabbit. Warlocks can equip Focus Burst and boost forward.

6 RepliesI am of the opinion that Titan skating is relatively balanced based on the points you mentioned above and my summation below. -It's primarily linear (exceptions including TW and SC) -It's a specific and deliberate Talent Spec -It actually forces a pretty constricting and predictable play style (Shotgun or Shoulder Charge) I think the biggest issue other classes have with the whole thing is the repeated nerfing of Blink and the generally lackluster Warlock Glide.
I simply can't use Blink. I'm a terrible judge of distance and whether or not I can even MAKE a jump without potentially falling to my death. I also have a bad habit of panic-blinking backward off of ledges. I also enjoy being able to reload, shoot, throw grenades, etc. at any point during my jumps. So hopefully I can share what I consider unbiased opinion as a regular player of every class and subclass.
Titans are now in the same position that Blink Shotgunners used to be. Extremely fast at closing the gap, with zero cool downs for readying weapons. But Blink got nerfed. A lot. Yet Skating hasn't... It's a pretty significant advantage that HAS ALREADY BEEN SEVERELY REDUCED FOR THE OTHER CLASSES. No, I'm not yelling, just making sure that point is understood. I'm also not calling for a nerf or claiming imbalance. From the average players perspective, it seems a little unfair, no? I'm just exposing the cycle of Community-driven balancing acts. It's a vicious circle that will continue to break one facet of the game after another if Bungie continues to cater so strongly to the emotional will of the inexperienced masses. Everytime one thing gets knocked down a peg, a new thing takes its place, until eventually we're all at ground level. Even then, the Crucibabies will flail desperately for the nearest shovel to continue digging holes beneath the competition. I'm ranting, so let me summariz... Individually, Skating isn't a big deal. Props to the guys that can do it well. Compared to the nerf-bats that Blink took for EXACTLY THE SAME COMPLAINTS, it seems a little unfair to those affected that Bungie not take some kind of action.
Unfortunately, there's no getting around this Class War so long as players continue to be passionate about the game and their characters.
My thoughts? Bring back Blink. Instant balance. Everyone gets to be equally salty. Lol -MAD X H0USE

Edited by Wolfy: 8/6/2016 7:29:04 AMI dont think people understand titans are about air game and vertical play. It goes hand in hand with their core design of controlling areas and closing gaps. Just look at large amount of their abilities are airborne and a handful of exotics are for vertical play

1 ReplyEdited by One-Two Punch (Adept): 8/5/2016 2:04:49 PMHOW DARE YOU WANT SOMETHING NERFED! YOU SHOULD GE.. Wait.. Your not asking for a Nerf.. Who are you? You are not a normal Forum poster... I apreciate your Post. I like you. And I agree with your Post.

2 RepliesSee the thing about Reinhart is that sure his speed comes at the cost of mobility but titans don't. I've tested this in rumble with friends and the mobility dropoff is almost nonexistent because of stuff like twilight garisson. Also Reinhart charge has a cooldown whereas titan skating does not. People really need to stop trying to justify something bungie has literally admitted was a mistake and is too scared to take out due to the communities assured outcry
-
I'll stick with bunny hopping
-
I agree nothin wrong with Titan skating.
-
This game is as balanced as ever and you know it
-
1 ReplyFinally. Someone with a brain
-
2 RepliesDo i have to read all of that?
-
3 RepliesOp cause if your secondary isn't a shotgun then the titan shoulder charges you without fail once they've locked onto you from a fusion rifle distance. Stickies kill them but you still die and sometimes the stickies don't even kill. A warlock has no options of countering once they see a titan is charging. It's easy to say how to kill one but really you're just naming ways to kill a player around a corner without knowing their class but once you identify its a titan you have no reliable way to defend yourself each time. It's constantly a gamble in a 1v1 situation where one side is doing nothing but charging in your face and succeeding majority of the time. Yea I've killed alot of SC titans in different ways before they reached me yet never has it been on equal terms or consistant and mainly only happens if the titan was dumb enough to run into an open area from a hallway.

37 RepliesEdited by WormChi: 8/4/2016 11:16:52 PMThe problem is Titan mains bitched and moaned and destroyed other movements like blink. With the advent of TG & SC Strikers now have the best movement in the game. BUNGIE NERF TITAN SKATING NOW! Lol at the Titan mains pretending their class isn't broken. Wake up! You started this it's time it comes full circle. Then and only then can the nerfs stop.
-
3 RepliesWait are people calling for a nerf to titan skating..... Lmfao, wow that's kinda low. Next up let's talk about sprinting, everyone sprints too fast let's nerf now! Everyone walks, running is too op!

Would some of you people shit the fûck up and deal with it
