Seeing that we are only ~50 days away from the launch of Rise of Iron, I figured I would make a post detailing the best ways I have found to prepare your guardian(s) for immediate success once September 20th gets here. I followed these guidelines heading into TTK, and was more than ready to raid when King's Fall released a few days later. Some of these won't take more than a day or two to accomplish, so you don't necessarily need to begin working on them right now, but they are still good to keep in mind. Enjoy:
1. Edge Your Factions
-Try to bring each of your factions (Vanguard/Crucible/DO/NM/FWC/Gunsmith/etc) to within 25 reputation of leveling them up. This will guarantee you a package from them within moments of launch, which should include some sweet new gear. I would also suggest getting your factions to a certain level (NM/DO/FWC to 25, for example), just incase there are any quests that go along with it. I would even bring the Gunsmith up to rank 10 just to be safe. I will also include holding onto completed bounties until after launch in this category.
(Estimated Time Required to Edge: 5-7 Days)
2. Save Your Engrams
-No, they will not decrypt into new gear, but what they will do is provide you with tons of Cryptarch rep, which will in turn grant you packages which could include Legendary Gear, Exotic Gear, Shaders, or Emblems. For TTK last year, I saved up enough engrams to level my Cryptarch 8 times (24000+ rep, IIRC) on launch day, and I've already got 28 Exotic and 51 Legendary Engrams just waiting around for September. I would suggest starting to save Exotic Engrams now, Legendary Engrams a few weeks out, and even Rare Engrams in the week leading up to launch.
3. Stock Your Inventory
-Making sure you stock up on and hoard as many Motes of Light, Strange Coins, Ammo Syntheses, Armor Materials, Planetary Materials, and Glimmer Baubles as possible could be intricate to earning good gear quickly. Most of these are for obvious reasons, such as trading in for rep or consuming for XP to level gear. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Xûr's exchange rate for Heavy Synths increase again, considering the return of Gjally. Make sure you are loaded with them. I would even go as far as saving Etheric Light received in Variks' weekly care packages, just incase.
(ETR: 30 Days)
4. Lock Down a Fireteam
-Having two friends to play with at launch is not necessarily imperative, but it will definitely help you get to the endgame content quicker. I main a Hunter, and I always like to approach new content with a Warlock and Titan by my side. You never know what kind of tactics will be required, so it is always best to cover all angles.
(ETR: 1-5 Days)
5. Take a Sick Day
-I'm sure I'll get some hate for this one, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with using your personal days to play Rise of Iron at launch (if you can afford it). Some of us work very hard, and if you feel playing at launch is an adequate use of a Sick/Personal/Vacation Day, then do it. Don't let anyone tell you how to live your life.
LAST GEN ONLY
6. Nothing
-Get a job, budget better, do whatever you need to do to move on from your ancient pieces of dead tech. It's about time this game cut off the Legacy Consoles, and it's nice to know that real progress can finally begin. Good luck.
Well, that's all I have for right now. If anyone has any suggestions that I didn't list, feel free to post them below in the comments and I will add them in later. I'm sure there are some people who choose not to prep, and that is totally fine. All I ask is that you take your hate for those who are interested elsewhere. It is not welcome in this post.

EDIT: Look, I am not promoting burning through content. The sole purpose of this post is to help people be geared up and ready to go for when the raid releases a few days after launch. I feel like a lot of you guys are vastly underestimating the amount of quests and missions we will have. The Plaguelands are supposedly quite large.

5 RepliesAs others have alluded to, your PLAN to max this and that etc is a fools errand. You are the guy that will try to max all 3 characters on day 1 of rise of iron. then what..... yea no thanks take a week or two to savor the process. Bungie is making their largest expansion by far and it will be fun to try to fight through many of these battles at the APPROPRIATE level they assume you will be at. if you max out then do all the missions you will coast through everything. you are destroying all the challenge and fun factor. but rock on with your bad self ....
-
5 RepliesHow about we all start on an even playing field and get things done at their own pace? Surely we don't want to see another content drought because people burned through it too fast and too quickly. I really do hope they push the raid back a few weeks on release day just to prevent idiots from establishing rules and bullshit and the elitists -blam!-s get a grip

18 RepliesEdited by SolarCerberuS: 7/31/2016 11:54:51 PMIf I ran a business and knew an employee played this and magically seemed to be sick the day rise of iron came out and couldn't provide evidence of illness from a doctor Id fire you for being a liar, somemeone else would have to cover your work seeing as there was no notice given or the business could suffer if no one could cover it.... IF however it was an RDO or annual leave day booked no problem there thats what they are for.

In planning on doing all of this strictly for the raid. Anyone else who complains is not o my raid team.

2 Replies6. Practice Be sure to practice using the the Khvostov 7G-02, Thorn and Gjallarhorn

6. Get ready for Thorn to be -blam!-ing everywhere

1 Reply1. Pre order skyrim

5 RepliesIt is a waste to save exotic engrams. They dont break down into legendary marks and the reputation boost isnt worth it as you rarely get a legendary engram from the cryptarch rank packages. It would be better to have more legendary engrams as the rep boost isnt that much less than an exotic engram and those do break down into legendary marks. Which can be used to buy tower gear and or legendary engrams from the cryptarch. You get 3 marks for an unleveled legendary and 5 for a leveled one (buy storing and using motes of light with additional resources).

Ill never understand the people that co plain against power leveling during new dlc. There is nothing i look forward more to than raid drop days. And to be ready for the raid when it drops you need to be as high of a level as possible.

2 RepliesI don't see Mountain Dew or Doritos anywhere in that post...

6. Complain there isn't enough content - Once you've burned through all the new content within the first couple days, be sure to complain that there isn't enough. Bungie, why you make such lackluster game. 7. Play something else - There's plenty of games to play that can entertain you while you wait for RoI to come out. Go play them, then be back here on 20th September to enjoy us since Destiny

Great way to hold over till roi as well

Edited by swampNinja20: 8/1/2016 9:12:43 PMI don't see any need in rushing to get max light...just enjoy the content, it's all we're going to have for a long time....but I did use a few of my vacation days for launch week :)

This killed TTK grind for a lot. Don't see the point in preparing, ruins the fun imo. Just play the game
-
4 RepliesAll you are achieving is power levelling content and leaving yourself nothing to do. I had zero prep for HoW, but playing casually all my characters hit the level cap a little before TTK released. With its horrendous, utterly broken grind fest of an endgame system. Double RNG? That was on you, because Bungie idiotically listened to whiners who power levelled and ground exploits, then complained levelling was too fast. You're literally wrecking the game for the rest of us by pushing this grind heavy garbage. 30 days grinding glimmer items is not healthy, and it should not be encouraged in case Bungo up the relentless grind even further. Just play the game as it was intended, stop ruining it and adding grind for the rest of us to serve your obsession for levelling up early.

And lets be real, most ppl are going to sit around and watch other gamers raid and complete it first without even trying by themselves (lame) which gives them more time. Dont rush it folks. Its essentially all youve got til 2017. And if you do blow through it using this guys advice better not complain or blame bungie about being fully maxed and nothing to do or chase after. Its ya own impatient instant gratification needing fault

1 ReplyEdited by T3A Complete: 8/1/2016 6:17:37 PMFor those of you planning on doing this remember 1 thing.... I did this exact thing when TTK came out and regretted it. I hit max light on all 3 characters without leaving the tower and blew through the story line with little to no challenge. This time I am going to take it slow. I quit Destiny all together for almost 7 months and since coming back I have really just been screwing around. Played IB to level 5 on all 3 characters which really helped raise my light level. The game isn't going anywhere so take your time and enjoy it, really not looking forward to all the posts with people bitching that there is no new content because they blew through it in 1 day.
-
Or you could do none of this and just enjoy the game. No need to rush through the content to get to the endgame, you only get to experience that content for the first time once.
-
I took a day off for HoW and TTK. I don't think I will for this one. I realize it's not really worth it even when there is hype (I'm not hyped for RoI). You will have 5+ months to play the same missions and raid, so, really, a day off is not necessary.
-
There is only one thing. Buy your emotes. Have the dance they can't get.

Edited by GrundleBeans: 8/1/2016 6:45:49 PMI wouldn't recommend to anyone to take a sick day for a game unless you're actually feeling kinda sick. It's just silly to think that a person would avoid work just to play a game the moment it comes out when we ALL know we've got months and months before the next, more important release. You all complain about how quickly things can get done, so why would you rush in to do everything as soon as possible? There's no reward, no accolades for trying to be first among the population or your friends. Besides, taking sick days is how people get pissed off when there's a delay. There's no point to rushing.

The fireteam part is an essential especially for the raid. A lot of youtubers miss it out in prep guides so I'm glad you have it here :)
