How to balance The Last Word (must read)

I feel that tlw is a really good weapon and many people have complained about it throughout time. I also feel that because of this exotic hand cannon the rest of the hand cannons have had to suffer large amounts of unnecessary nerfs and poor buffs. I don't think hand cannon hit registration is in a good place right now and I mainly believe bungie won't buff this because of the effectiveness of the last word. So this hand cannon is holding things back in a way. (Ghost Bullets) Tlw has gone through extensive amounts of nerfs and buffs. From the 111 era to the newest removal of the exotic hip fire perk (extra damage). In my opinion these nerfs were really called for at the moment. However I don't believe this was the best way to balance this gun. [b][u]How I believe this gun should be properly balanced[/u][/b] I feel that one way to fix this gun is too look at the perk "fan fire" or full auto which allows TLW to fire full auto and faster than its intended stats. I feel that [u]TLW should only fan fire from the "hip" and not while ADS. [/u]This will glorify it's exotic perk and make it a true hip fire weapon. While ADS I feel the gun should not fire full auto and have its intended fire rate as those of thorn and other high rate of fire hand cannons. From the hip this weapon should speed up and deal large amounts of damage over a fast amount of time. This will also let hand cannon accuracy buffs take place because of the skill gap of hip fire and ads. It will let hand cannons be able to become as reliant as pulse rifles and auto rifles. No more ghost bullets. Please give me your opinion on this post and share so bungie can see.

    • Here's a proposal: Make TLW like the Suros— Two exotics options differing how the gun works. So here would be TLW's two perks- •Bonus Damage but locked in hipfire •Current State which is able to do both but no bonus damage

      Fan fire is the ONLY thing that's making the gun feel exotic. If you nerf it, you're just making it become even less exotic than it already is. It's fine the way it is...OR, restore the Last Word perk to its original purpose and we can talk about what needs/should be done. Also, the reason people ADS is because the range is so bad, you will not hit anything if you hip fire unless you're at point blank range.

      • You can have TLW only fan the hammer when I'm hip fire only. It works better when you tap the trigger anyway.

        • All's well and good but this weapon wrecks at med to close range 99% of the time so why whinge? Or ask for more buffs or nerfs with the consistant bugs being unnoticed like kills from long range i mean long range as just outside mid range to a degree. It should now be left alone i feel handcannon meta has some problems with consistancy when using diffrent guns some perform well others dont sometimes it will perform good others it feels like a piece of crap its just oir experiance alot of the time.

        • There should be no additional damage firing from the hip. The full auto change could work. Extra damage caused too many complaints and The Last Word is in a fine spot. It's still meta

            • Good ideas, I think in addition range should be dropped and an additional bullet as it originally had given. Make it a close range last resort otherwise it is to op. Medium range should be eliminated as an option for this weapon. Make it kind of like a shotgun, close range kill guarantee, but anything beyond that requires another weapon.

                  • TLW can't ever balance, as it ignores a fundamental rule of the game. To wit: Hand cannons are 1. High Damage 2. High Accuracy 3. Close range 4. Low RoF TLW's exotic ability basically boils down to "Number 4 is not true for this gun" That can't ever be made to balance, and I'm amazed this gun is in year 2 at all.

                    • Due to its nerfs, using fanfire while ADSing is almost pointless. You should have seen the gun back in the day. ADS with it was so fun, and a guaranteed kill.

                            • I personally think its balanced right now . I finally got it a couple days ago from a legacy engram as I never got to drop for me year 1 . I thought I was gunna go wreck people in the crucible with it since I seen to die to the last word quite often. Turn out its not that op. Year one it was with the range it had . But know only those who have put the time to master the gun can actually use it .

                              • I think it's in a really good spot right now. It's very good yeah but at long ranges it's garbage. In mid range, PDX and Hawksaw will easily outgun tlw, and if it kills you in long to mid range, then you need to work on your aim. Tlw is really the only counter to slide shotgun, why I use it.

                                  • This idea is perfect. If they do this, they need to either buff range on last word or remove the cone/bloom effect on hand cannons. Hand cannons as a whole need their accuracy returned to year 1 stats, but keep year 2 dmg and dmg falloff.

                                      • I have a question though: how would you ads without the fanfire? Because tlw isn't double action like the rest of the hand cannons so you can't magically make it double action while ads. so how would that work?

                                        • I also will have to disagree, off the hip close range tlw has one of the quickest times to kill second to only a shotgun or fusion. I know ppl say its not all that but i think if you spend a solid week with it you will see it really has a certain playstyle and if mastered giving it the perk you said will make it unplayable in close quarters. E.g ppl that snipe with tlw will be untouchable close range.
