TL;DR It's worth the 5.00 Price if you enjoy building. 4.5/5 - Some asshat on the internet
To be honest, everyone gives the Workshop DLCs for Fallout 4 way to much shit. I had very low expectations for this DLC and I imagine a lot of others do too. I was pleasantly surprised. It adds way more than a few contraptions. It adds Scaffolding, Warehouses, Boxcars, Elevators and various Contraptions.
I know most things I listed may sound simple but there's many things you can do with one Boxcar. You can use it for storage or displaying all your weapons with racks and some armor.
Sure it might not add a quest-line like Automatron and Far Harbor did but, I imagine this can give me the same amount of game time I got from Automatron.
It's fun to make everything in your settlement feel more lively or at home. For example I have a weapon rack right next to a couch. That rack is displaying a fat man, just in case those raiders or super mutants attack again. It's a little detail I like and if you like little details and building I'd recommend you buy this DLC.
Edit: I never expected this much negativity. When I first made a review like this on #Gaming it was overwhelmingly positive, so now I saw no one gave any review for this on B.net so I decided to do it. Most of the negativity is because New Vegas for some reason and how Bethesda has different DLC plans than Obsidian, what a surprise. Two companies act differently, I never expected that. Honestly this is making me hate this community.

If you couple this with other mods like snap n build you can make a lot of things. Very happy with the DLC.

1 ReplyEdited by Sapid: 6/22/2016 2:45:40 AMPeople shit on settlements way too much. They've made settlements and crafting transform the wasteland into a place that actually requires scavenging. You can even, as a completely optional experience, rebuild the wasteland. I find it adds a lot more depth. And if you don't like it, you just ignore it..buy the diamond city house and move on. I didn't pick up anything in fo3 compared to fo4 Plus the mod excuses are overused and crappy. *creates new and interesting mechanics* "Of course, Bethesda stealing mod ideas!" *don't do anything* "Of course, Bethesda leaving it to the modding community to make their garbage game playable!" Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Hundreds of thousands of people can come up with every idea under the sun, but it doesn't mean they are gonna be quality. The new Build-A-Vault DLC looks 100x better than the mod. Contraptions adds lots of new features that will make settlement building much more fun. Mods are great, they add lots of possibilities, but developers don't need to cater to the modding community at all. I'm not sure where this mod entitlement came from, but it's stupid to tell a studio "Listen, I know you have a million hurdles dealing with time and budget issues. This game literally puts the bread on the table, and you put most of the effort into creating the sandbox and mod tools I use. But I'm gonna need you to just stop trying to have fun and create new things for your game cause us modders with 5x the combined free time and much less stress can pump out much more." This turned into a random rant but I'm just tired of all the idiots spouting nonsense about mods and how stupid these workshop add ons are. Because eventually it's going to ruin it for the people who enjoy it, like me. Just because they aren't making another big story expansion doesn't mean you gotta vent your anger at settlements. Anyway. Good post OP. Jerks are just blowing things out of proportion, like always.

1 ReplyThey feel like mods more than anything. I like what they're trying to do with settlements but most of the community would prefer large scale DLC's like far harbor
-
1 Reply$6.65 in Australia. I like playing round in my settlement but this woulda been nice as a free update or combined with another small dlc for the same price
-
5 RepliesBuilding= garbage

1 ReplyA lot of people seem to dislike settlement building, but for me it's the best part of the game. I've been taking a break from fallout for a little while but seeing this makes me want to go back and continue to build my fortress. What exactly is in the DLC anyway though?
-
13 RepliesThe community is incredibly toxic, especially when it comes to fallout. Expectations are ridiculously high for gamers these days. The settlement building is like it's own seperate game. I'm not a big fan but they hardly charge you anything for it. Of course I'd prefer new areas and whatnot, but I'm not complaining. Two large dlc is definitely worth the $30.

1 ReplyFor a creative person like me who loves to build crazy contraptions, this dlc brought life to my soul
-
1 ReplySo what exactly does the dlc entail? And does it come with the season pass?
-
6 RepliesPeople should stop hating on settlements, sure it's not the best it could be but its a great foundation, just wait till fallout 5 the settlement building will be amazing
-
worth 20 pence max. Bethesda have really milked as much money as possible with sub par dlc.
-
4 RepliesEdited by BFGesus: 6/22/2016 12:10:26 PMI think it's hilarious that fallout 3 had more power armors than fallout 4.
-
4 RepliesUm new vegas copied fallout 3, which was made by bethesda soooooooo...... Yeah
-
I'd enjoy the DLC more if i didn't have certain mods. I actually do enjoy the building in this game.

4 RepliesEdited by The Arkwolf: 6/22/2016 7:58:41 AMI got it for free since I bought the season pass. Only thing I don't like is that I think it fùcked up Green in the Commonwealth. Now all grass, only the grass, in a 5 foot radius around me turns a bizarre staticky purple color, almost like the glowy plants in Avatar. Which now that I think about would be fùcking awesome normally, like all the grass and leaves and flowers glow blue/purple/pink... but its only in a small area around me. I wanna keep this DLC since it's free, but I also wanna fix this bug, and I also don't wanna disable GitC.
For honorable service. Against all tyrants. Sic semper tyrannis.
4 RepliesSo in other words, I have to pay $5.00 for something I could download a mod for?
-
8 RepliesI agree with you. And I really dislike the "this is stupid, I could get this as a mod for free" argument. If that's the case, then go for it, no one is stopping you. It's like complaining that Lego exists because you can get the off-brand ones so much cheaper. Yeah, you can, and some of them are pretty good. But it's more likely you'll get a piece of shit that doesn't even work.
-
9 RepliesIm NOT a big fan of the building shit...but i gotta say i got the new one last night and havent stopped...its fun and got a lot of different stuff... Right now im trying to spell my kids name in fireworks...its slow going... But yes this dlc is diff worth 5 bucks...
-
13 RepliesThe whole game is crap. I'll Re-download at some point, get my trophies and DELETE!
-
1 ReplyEdited by Doc: 6/22/2016 1:00:36 AMI enjoyed the Automatron dlc, it was a nice little add on and making robots was a very cool feature. I was actually looking forward to the wasteland workshop dlc the most when I heard about them but apparently it was very underwhelming. I'll probably get this since it sounds pretty cool and it's dirt cheap.

20 RepliesEdited by shell: 6/21/2016 9:09:35 PMIf they turn TES6 into Sims with dragons then I might lose my last scrap of faith in Bethesda. I swear, if Todd ruins TWO of Bethesda's series... They should focus on story driven DLC. Fallout 4's amazing modding community should just do the settlement stuff.
-
3 RepliesPeople are having problems with some of the stuff that was added no showing up or working. Me personally only the new warehouse structure is there, nothing else.
-
5 RepliesWhen is the final dlc coming out for fallout4?
-
16 RepliesShould have stuck to actual content rather than just milking the shit out of the broken settlement system. New Vegas had actual DLC. However many of these shitty Workshop features (some of which I had mods for before the DLC came out) with 2 actual story driven DLCs is trash.
-
6 RepliesAnd you wonder why new Vegas is still the better current fallout game.
