Okay, I just can't use the combat system for Witcher 3. I've been trying to, just it feels so weird compared to Dark Souls 3. Anyway, do you guys have any tips? Right now, I get destroyed even on easy. I try to dodge with A or B (I'm on Xbox One) but the enemies still hit me. Even if I'm in mid roll.

Learn all there is to the potions and decoctions. Signs are your best friend. Roll out of the way of thrown objects. Dodge around slow moving enemies and hit then in the back. Not trolls. Trolls aren't weak in the back. And don't let the gargoyle appearance fool you. They are fast mother ff$&%-%&=+.

Edited by Patriot121: 6/3/2016 4:47:58 AMQuen is your friend. When you get good you'll be able to go an entire fight without anyone landing a blow, but Quen will protect you if you ever mistime a parry or dodge. Parry human targets using one handed weapons, and dodge humans with pole arms and all monsters and beasts. Don't roll unless you really need to put distance between you and the enemy, or the enemy has a really large attack radius. Dodge is almost always better than roll. Play on harder difficulties. It'll make the enemies much less forgiving, but it'll force you to play better and use all the mechanics (bombs, signs, etc) so by level 10 or so you'll be amazing at the game.

I play on NG+ Deathmarch. Best thing you can do against humans or even crowds of small animals is Aard, if you knock them down you can insta-kill them and you'll stun them to give yourself a breather.

2 RepliesDodge against monsters. Block/parry against humans. Don't block immediately after you roll, your stamina will increase faster. Sign build with Griffen armor feels OP. Using the alternate mode of Quen is really helpful if you lose your Health pretty often. Don't be afraid to experiment and find a play style that works for you. I highly recommend using Witcher gear. You will never use regular armor again. Weapons as well, but definitely stay on top of having a weapon of your level, the damage helps. Pretty basic points, but I hope they help.

7 RepliesDodge early most things move too fast. Humans use B anything with a wider sweep use A The less you roll the faster your stamina reacharges! Great for sign builds. Only today (months later) I have realized the greatness that is the potions tree!!! The dedoctions are exactly what I need to barely survive NG+ on death march. Signs are CC OP. Swords are... Average but always necessary somewhere. Potions are for tanky and heal spam characters. Sacrifice damage for survivability. But another bad is having to deal with pausing and going into your inventory :/ it's not too bad now with the updated menu. Potions are LATE GAME builds. You need a lot of resources/recipies and stat investment so don't bother until NG+ If you are having trouble go signs and Griffin witcher armor+ sign intensity boosters.

1 ReplyIf you're playing on Death March take the time to read the Beastiary, it'll give you some history on monsters as well as some useful tactics with potions, bombs, and signs.

3 RepliesIdk I never had a problem with it. I guess what others say make sure your dodging monsters and countering human. I'm a melee build and overpowered by end game before dlc

Edited by PatrickYB: 6/1/2016 8:52:59 PMit takes a while to level up in the begining, it'll become way easier as you lvl up a bit, upgrade quen first and never lock-on on ennemies and go for quest at your level or below

What I do is dodge, roll, and use quen a lot. I'm also usually several levels over whatever I'm trying to do. Never have much issue and play on the hardest setting.

Firstly abuse the quen sign, it gives you a shield to buffer you from a wrong move. Secondly, mostly use the side step dodge not the roll. The roll uses up a lot of stamina allowing less use of the magic sign in the process. Their is no invulnerability in a dodge move, so learn to time them well and perform them in a direction away from their attack. Third, attacks from smaller monsters and human enemies can be blocked. If you mess up your position, keep your guard up. Fourth, magic attacks are fast. If an enemy charges at you using the aard or igni sign can stun them opening them up for your counter. Fifth, forget dark souls. This is a different game, get to practicing. Once you got the timing down you'll want to play on hard difficulty.

Edited by Clyd3Fr0g 2: 6/1/2016 8:24:01 PMDodge, dont roll, preferably to the side and not straight back, unless youre facing a large enemy, in which case the roll comes in handy. Use parry against people. Igni is good for mobs without a big point expense f youre going melee heavy. Personally i stacked points in oils and quick strike/dodge abilities, but ive seen a lot of people recommend more sign heavy builds. It all seems pretty balanced, just find a style your comfortable with. Edit: i was playing on b&bb, not sure if my advice holds up on death march :p

7 RepliesEdited by Vizard: 6/1/2016 6:21:44 PMLower the difficulty, even on easy... you'll still get -blam!-ed up by the enemies of Tussaint. Quen > all

1 ReplyIt's all about alchemy and quen

1 ReplyThunderbolt+quen or axii And you will not die again
-
1 ReplySide step more than dodge, always TRY to hit from the side or back. Parry will deflect hits from any direction. Just watch what the enemy does, watch his counters and watch when he attacks.

3 RepliesFrom what I have played so far (only started Saturday and have played about 3 or 5 hours), the Step dodge (B) is more useful than the roll. Mix your spells with your sword attacks. Plan your moves during the fight. Learn to parry, and to be patient when fighting large groups. Try not to lock onto an enemy when fighting a group. The shield (Quen) is good, Yrden (trap sign) is useful for enemies that move fast or are needed to slow down for some attacks, and Igni is good for area fire and for staggering enemies. Mix your heavy and fast attacks.
