There are three factions in Destiny, Dead Orbit, Future War Cult, and New Monarchy.
Dead Orbit: A faction who believes that Earth and surrounding system is lost. They desire to salvage anything from our past and spoils of war to construct a fleet, which will take them far, far away. They think that is the only hope for our race, the human race, to survive. To scatter ourselves so thoroughly among the stars that no enemy will ever wipe us out. They have gone very far to achieve this and has had failures that have contested many people their lives. They flew into the Reef-area to salvage a small-outpost's resources, the catch was, they didn't let the Vanguard know about it. So they flew there, then were attacked by Awoken, who crippled their ship, and watched them die for about a week. One of the victims told a ghost to wipe the excursion from the records of Dead Orbit, so that they not know the team's failure.
Future War Cult: The oldest of all the known and active factions, the Future War Cult believe that there will always be war against the Darkness. So their ideal is to just keep fighting, hacking away, and researching a possible way to claim victory. They came to this way of thinking by putting people into a machine then recording what they see, which causes said people to go insane. They would describe what they machine showed them, which was absolute darkness, the City/Tower crumbling and burning, and just it sucking in general. (There is also a rumor that Red Death was made by a mad guardian in FWC to kill guardians in the Tower. When the guardians died, they couldn't be able to respawn... Soooo Yeah)
New Monarchy: The New Monarchy believe in making the City a better place and putting a Monarch (King/Queen) in charge to better rule the City. The current system of leadership is the the Speaker "ruling" with the Consensus. The Consensus is the group of factions and the Vanguard being in a sort of council that works with the Speaker to find what is the best for our race as a whole. New Monarchy believes that this way is not efficient and a monarchy would better fit the city. New Monarchy lives by Seven Tents that exist to benefit the City in the best manner.
Their Seven Tenets:
"1. To secure our walls against the enemy without.
2. To secure the rights and liberties of every upstanding citizen.
3. To sponsor the sciences of the City, and to salvage the ruins beyond, so that our Golden Age might be reborn.
4. To support the Guardian Orders by leading the City in technological innovation.
5. To support the natural harmony of the City, and to actively dissuade any group or individual that might disrupt that harmony.
6. To hold all individuals, compacts, and alliances to the highest standards of productivity and right behavior.
7. To, by vote of the Consensus, abolish the Consensus, and transfer ultimate power, in order that the rights and liberties of all citizens be secured, to a single sovereign of unimpeachable character."
I, personally, side with New Monarchy for a variety of reasons that I strongly believe. One of which are the other factions, Dead Orbit and Future War Cult. Dead Orbit are making a huge gamble on building a fleet and running away. Many of my friends who are Dead Orbit Supporters say that once we leave the Darkness has no need for us anymore, it only wants the traveler. Which sounds good in theory, but if you look the different enemy races in Destiny, they don't really follow the/a "Darkness." The Cabal can blow up moons, planets, and other various LARGE objects, so if we ran, who says that they won't follow/conquer us? The Hive and Fallen want us dead out of vengeance for the deaths of their countless comrades, and the Vex have a plan for us. If they didn't have a plan we would not exist. Plus, if we just packed up and left, we wouldn't have that much of a strategic advantage, we would be virtually defenseless and vulnerable. If we even traveled forever, our enemies have warp/dimensional/time travel transportation so its not like we could run. I don't like FWC because their ideals make them want to win at all costs, so to beat the enemy, you must become the enemy. Eventually, we'd all turn into savages that only know war, so even if we did beat the Darkness, what would happen? If there is no enemy left to kill when there are a lot of blood-crazed guardians around, we'd end up fighting each other, effectively wiping ourselves out. Now, New Monarchy want to repair and help the city, support the sciences, make sure everyone has rights because even in a time like this, the literal apocalypse, people will steal lie, cheat , and steal. Now, the controversial part, the monarchy itself, the way I see it, the whole thing is a gamble, but if we choose a good leader, they would lead the city to peak efficiency and we could beat the Darkness. If we set up and fueled weapon factories and laboratories, we could replicate or enhance Golden Age technologies.
That is what I believe, tell me what you believe in... Who is your favorite?

1 ReplyIm with Future War cult, not the emos with eyeliners at dead orbit, humanity is about to be exinct, why need a king and a royal family?
-
2 RepliesBiased poll....points out the flaws of DO and FWC but paints a perfect picture of NM.
-
3 RepliesMy titan is new monarchy, warlock dead orbit and hunter is future war cult. This is clearly the way things are meant to be.

1 ReplyEdited by Mistah Jay: 5/22/2016 4:21:43 PMChurch it up and sugar coat it all you want but the reason y'all picked a faction was for color schemes and shaders.....that's all
-
Clearly everyone saw "faction" and voted for their favorite shader.

All these Dead Whorebit -blam!- boys lol

3 RepliesOn day one year one I picked a warlock (thought magic was involved) and I still main him. He is FWC mainly because they have the most appealing color scheme and struck me as intellectual war strategists. Appeared to be the natural fit for the scholar warlock. He is awoken. After that I decided I would make three characters. One of each race, one of each class, and one of each faction. Seemed the best benefit for playing also-maximize rank and reduce waisted high level gear. So secondly I made a hunter. Seemed that the hunter fit well with the New Monarchy. I don't know why but warlocks seemed to fit the smart tactics of FWC and so from dead orbit and NM the hunter fit better with NM. And to this day I believe that the hunter looks the best in red and white with that amazing NM cloak! He is human. That leaves me with the Titan. An exo for Dead Orbit. Something fierce has always seemed to hover around dead orbit. Their logo and black and white colors make me think harsh and heavy, fierce and unstoppable. These character traits made for a snug fit. I know the lore states Dead orbit seeks to escape, and that doesn't fit this idea but I think a Titan would do well in another system....chilling in a bubble. I haven't achieved rank 25 in NM or DO. but I do believe that the exotic FWC class item spawn effect looks the best. NM is mildly red and DO looks like your being birthed via "darkness fart".

15 RepliesNew Monarchy, all the way. The Cult is too shady. Zavala said it best: "They're like children, answering questions with questions." Besides, anyone who's read the Grimoire knows their Vision Machine is highly unethical. Dead Orbit isn't much better. We need to hold our ground, repel this Darkness. We need a leader. I'm honestly torn between Rahool, Cayde-06, and Randal the Vandal. Guardians, it's time to unite, under 1 banner, 1 name, 1 King(or queen. I'm open to both. As long as we don't reelect the Speaker. God knows how much he hides from the public)

11 RepliesEdited by Astartes Marine: 5/19/2016 8:41:17 PMYou disagree with the Future War Cult's belief that we'll be at war for the foreseeable future? Humanity has one city, on the entire planet of Earth, the moon, the rest of the solar system, we have one city. We have only a few thousand Guardians. As powerful as we are, our numbers are few. Our enemies vastly outnumber us, the Hive do not fear losses, the Cabal have an interstellar empire, the Vex are everywhere and nowhere simultaneously, and the Fallen seem to reproduce just as fast as we can kill them. Where in this do you see conflict ending? In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war.

Dead orbit are cool and all by they want to abonden the damn thing that made all of this happen the damn thing that made the guardians made YOU. New monarchy has really good beliefs in fact I would side with them BUT they want to have a king how you can't rebel oh hell nah Future war Cult People think their weird by to me they are the most normal they want to train for a future war they don't plan on leaving the glary like dead orbit or having a in denible king like new monarchy they just want to train people think their we piers well guess what SHAXX DOES THE SAME THING AND ITS NOT WIERD?? But if we need to run away we got Dead orbit But if we need order we got New monarchy But if we need to fight or defend ourselves we got Future war MY OPINION

1 ReplyNew Monarchy has the best beliefs to me. Future War Cult has the coolest weapoms and gear. Dead Orbit is just for hipsters.

8 RepliesEdited by Ostensibly: 5/22/2016 12:33:00 AMI like the Vanguard and Crucible the most. FWC for their willingness to stand and fight. But not the shady experiments and cult stuff. Dead Orbit for the fleet, and as a backup plan. But not to run now. New Monarchy to fight to reclaim the Golden Age. But not the whole monarchy business. Every faction has a good idea, but also a terrible one that makes them fight amongst themselves, when they could unite and fight stronger.
-
Neither? Because god forbid this game have a faction with a rational standpoint.
-
3 RepliesStopped reading at FWC being the oldest faction. The war Cult is the NEWEST faction in the tower being accepted sometime shortly after the consensus. Do you even lore brah?
-
Edited by SuperfineFire: 5/22/2016 4:09:09 AMI like to think of myself as a Knight of the New Monarchy

4 RepliesNew monarchy, cause shoulder fur

13 RepliesI just matched each faction to the class that I thought made the most sense. Hunter- Dead Orbit Warlock- FWC New Monarchy- Titan

6 RepliesEdited by Hondaenthu93: 5/22/2016 1:46:48 AMI always liked new monarchy personally. But I always had a question about dead orbit. If we were resurrected by the traveler to protect the traveler and live off light. Would it even be possible to pack up and abandon the traveler? Don't we need the travelers Light? Would our ghost even let us attempt to do that? Would we be able to but lose our ghost and the power to respawn? It sounds so simple but actually a pretty complex situation when you think about where we came from and what our purpose is. I mean "humanity", the human race, could leave but are we technically still part of that? Yes you can select human as your race but we died and are only alive because of the traveler. So how could we leave the traveler? Even If they wanted the traveler to come with, they also want to be totally dispersed among the universe and the traveler can only be in one place. Can any lore experts help me out here?

1 ReplyFWC has the best armor.

Edited by BornChiller: 5/18/2016 12:15:38 AMVanguard is the best faction But DO has coolest shaders NM has coolest ships And FWC has the coolest emblems

FWC fo life mother-blam!-er!
-
FWC4LIFE. I like their ideals, colors, ships, and all around everything. Also I recently hit level 100 with them so I think that's cool
-
Personally, I believe New Monarchy is the most righteous faction. They don't want to get involved in war and they certainly don't want to abandon the City. They want what is best for the City, and they know what kind of political turmoil the Consensus is causing. They see the future to be a bright one. Join us...

10 RepliesI feel like new monarchy will be corrupt. Dead orbit is a gamble. #FWCFWT
