Why are "sweats" such a bad thing?

I don't understand why "sweats" are such a bad thing. Take me for example. I'm a 1.0 avg k/d (just like Bungie wants) crucible solo player. I have games where I absolutely go ham, and then I have games where I go .4 k/d. I'm not even talking about trials, because as someone who's only done trials one night for bounties, I fully understand that trials is the ultimate test in Bungieverse. Are games that are hard and competitive that bad? Frustrating? Absolutely. Fun? Absolutely. Since when did the Crucible become this "gentleman's" game where you're not supposed want to play your best? You might get roasted every now and then, but at least you'll have games where you lock it down. You know what I think when I read complaints about sweaty matches? I think those people are afraid to have their k/d tarnished. They want to be in the top tier of pvp percentages and it's annoying for them to have bad games. I understand that it's incredibly frustrating to be in a competitive game and you find yourself on the losing end of lag and redbars. I don't believe you'll find anyone that doesn't value a good connection. Myself included. But for those times when connections are good and you're losing a "sweaty" match, I say good! You'll become better for it. "The crucible is no place for mercy." - Shaxx

  • There are times where I'm in the mood to use fun guns, but when someone who comes in with a different mindset of play it beats out the fun. That's really my problem. It's hard to have fun when you lose almost every engagement when you're just trying to use the weapons you wanna use. Nothing bad on that player for using the better weapons, but it's one of those scenarios where it's "If you can't beat them, join them". And in said scenario they will never join you. I learned this when a full fireteam of my friends went into Clash with all Vex only. The amount of bagging by people with Thorn, Last Word, and MIDA was impressive.

  • Sweats are fine, unless it's swamp ass. That's never a good thing.

  • Sweats are okay occasionally, but if it's every single match, then you get a bitter and toxic community like LoL.

  • For a person with an average KD it's hard when SBMM puts you into a match where everyone wants to be an MLG pro trying to snipe and camps every alleyway (looking at you black shield). Some matches I do like being sweaty and going hard some matches I wanna relax and run around with my answering chord

  • Sweats are annoying because some of us just want a game of casuals, to casually enjoy the game. If I wanted sweats, I run trials or a 3v3 during trials weekends

I can understand their complaint with lag, this is probably due to the dwindling player base. Sbmm is in every game and is nessasary, no one wants to be forced to play better players than they are all the time. I let my kids ruin my k/d since then this game has been alot more fun to play. I was never the best but getting it down to 1 means I can just dick about and have fun. Remember it's a non competitive game, a couple of stats on an app mean f/all. For the top tier players maybe just have a moshpit where skill matching is not a factor at all and it's 100% connection based would be an answer.

I've gone in to do the daily Crucible for Marks when it was salvage or skirmish in particular and a minute and 45 seconds in I'm saying screw it and just dancing in a corner waving to people because it's a sweat Fest. Getting spawn trapped 4 times in a row by a thousand yard stare can really just turn you off to everything going on, so I just play with my emotes and screw around till it's over and I can get my marks and get on to better things.......like pve lol. So I guess for me it isn't so much the weapons. it's the tactics. ( although I will teabag anyone I see holding a conspiracy theory. that's just involuntary lol)

    • Every now and then (trials) I put on sweat pants, put down my beer and try my butt off. 99.9999% of the time I'm in for bounties and "sick FeedZ". Meaning I'm drinking beer with limited cognitive reflexes and want to have fun finding a group to nova bomb (warlock master race plug). Part of destinys pvp appeal in the beginning was the easy going nature. No stress, at the end of a match every one had a chance at loot. Win or lose that's it. If ppl want to sweat 24/7 that's fine. The only thing I hate is RAGERS!!!! And elitist who are too good to party with scrubs that may have a negative effect of their stats. That's pathetic.

    • I'll tell you why. Because it isn't optional. Sweaty matches aren't bad, but as you said, they are frustrating. Much more frustrating than non-sweaty matches. That constant frustration just becomes too much.. You want to relax. And that's where people complain about SBMM.

We should have a GoW 3 playlists system. They had casual, quick match, and ranked playlists. If you were deemed good enough, casual was blocked off.

The top players problems are this: They already sweat when they want to. They match up with other skilled players and make rules like no heavy/exotic armor. But when they want to sit back, relax, and pub with some friends that may not be at the skill level of them they can't. They have to try their ass off, and their friends that play with them, can't compete. Skill based matchmaking should not be forced upon us. If players want to sweat, they can match up. (Custom games/ranked playlists bungo pls) If players don't, then they shouldn't be forced to play top tier players. Not to mention the lag, lag is awful for the 1%ers. When you are so good that the game has trouble finding equally skilled players in your region, it pairs you with players further and further away from you. Orbit time takes 10 minutes. TL;DR: Bungie shouldn't force sweats and SBMM on players.

          • Because people at that 1-5% skill level just want to pub stomp everyone in their free time. If they didn't want "sweaty" match ups well sorry but that sucks. And, that's what you have to deal with when you're that good. I don't want to go into matches against those players and get my butt ravaged just because they want to relax and have fun. Because that runs my fun.

          • Nothing wrong with sweats. At all. The problem is when it's nonstop. SBMM makes this a guarantee. That's where the problem lies. No one wants to have to perform at the top of their game all the time. It's exhausting. I play for fun majority of the time. But SBMM has really taken a bite into that.

            • In my opinion, no play style is a bad thing. It's a damn video game and people are going to try and dictate how others should play? Lol. Play how you want, and deal with the fact that other players play how they want. You're going to get matches with 'sweats' sometimes just like you're going to get paired with noobs sometimes. Tired of seeing the same stupid complaints.

              • A) Sweats actually exist as a player made variant. You should have the ability to CHOOSE to play sweats, or choose to play casual in regular playlists. This is why ranked and unranked playlists need to exist. Right now, anything 3v3 and under is 100% sweats, every match, guaranteed. Especially if you're a player with higher stats. 6v6 variants aren't as bad, but they still get obnoxious as hell most of the time compared to how it used to be. B) Destiny is a peer to peer connection based multiplayer. So take for example, a player in the 5-10 percentile has a very small pool of players for the game to connect you with because they're using skill to base the connection compared to the connection to another player. Which means that person may be across the world, but since their skill level is in the same pool as yours, you're going to have lag on both ends. That's just wish two players in a match. Think of how it is with 6v6 variants. It can get extremely messy. Moral of the story. With a peer to peer type connection based matchmaking, connection should ALWAYS be the priority over skill. It doesn't matter how much skill a person has when the match is lagging so bad that people become tanks and take no dmg. You end up having situations like the clip I posted.
