Been playing for 18 months and I still find...
caves on patrol I've never been in before. I know... who still patrols right? But I do. It's relaxing. I usually farm materials rather than buy them from the quartermaster cause I enjoy patrol. But I always feel good when I come across a cave I've never been in before and surprised because I thought I had found them all in year 1.
I wish Bungie would put good drops in random chests in patrol world. I wouldn't mind at all hunting for them as an alternative way to rank up. Imagine getting a legendary or exotic from a random patrol chest in some obscure cave on one of the planets. We need a spelunking quest line!

I've gotten legendary engrams from chests before an the occasional 5 strange coins and a ship, but I agree, I wish there was more incentive to explore.

1 ReplyI found some really cool places just patrolling Venus when I was bored one day. The way you would go to kill the gatekeeper, has alot of really cool views, and a couple of big caves. Never found a patrol chest in them though. Nevertheless, it was still cool.. to me anyways

5 RepliesI actually agree with this. I wish they would do something more with patrol like make us hunt for things! I've already picked up most of the ghosts and fragments, but I wouldn't mind something similar to that. Like maybe they could have weapon parts scattered around earth and once you find them it becomes a new exotic or something

2 RepliesI do the daily bounties in patrol most days. I can rank up new gear, run around, catch the daily events, maybe cap a taken ultra or two, collect materials and just enjoy the maps, exploring without pressure.

2 RepliesI always thought each week they should have a random chest on each planet that had a legendary or exotic piece of gear. Now with the new system it could always be better than your current light level, it would make patrols relevant once again.

I have had 3 legendary engrams from patrol chests, and I would say as a 2nd week player I have opened hundreds of chests and that drop rate is ridiculous. I agree a HM patrol would be nice

I go HUDless in patrol, and pretend it's a rank up system. I first spawn in with green weapons (get them from my hunter) and wander about trying to kill adds not knowing how much damage is being done. Then I reach my "checkpoint " and equip blues (old blues not the current 300 ones) And then reach another and equip a year one legendary. So on and so forth

3 RepliesI was just up to this yesterday. Patrolled the Moon, Venus, and Earth for about an hour just to wave to random players and greet new ones. Fun times!! ^_^

1 ReplyI still patrol all the time. Sometimes I'll just cruise around on my sparrow or try and look for secret places I can get into or whatever. Plus I also get the urge to do some material farming and now that they've upped the amount of rep you get from patrol missions, it's a nice change of pace for earning rep and doing bounties.

7 RepliesI honestly thought the whole game would revolve around the patrol mechanic. Going into VoG, for instance, was/is possible from patrol. You could start building the spire without a full fireteam and any passing randoms could help out and actually join you for the raid itself (if you invited them). But TDB, PoE, and KF can [i]only[/i] be reached from orbit and randoms can only be recruited from third party lfg sites. I've said it before, but it bears repeating. Destiny had/has probably the most potential of any game I've ever played. Unfortunately, that's the nicest thing I can say about it, because that potential has largely been wasted.
