Does bungie not realize that at the moment pulse rifles have some of the highest stability, highest range and fastest ttk out of any weapon?
I just want to point at everything wrong with pulse rifles and maybe a way to balance everything.
1. They have very little damage drop off so they are effective at long ranges being able to compete with scouts at all but the longest of ranges which often not a scenario people are put into as most maps are still small and cqc maps.
2. With nirwens mercy being sold recently many players have access to a great Pvp pulse rifle with max stability. For those of you who dont know this thing fires like a laser beam. This makes pulses very easy to use as little to no adjustments need to be made to compensate for recoil.
3. Pulse Rifles also have one of the fastest ttk of any primary being able to two burst other guardians with only a rate of fire slightly slower than hand cannons. This ability to kill things in two shots is unparalleled in the current meta and rivals thorn pre nerf.
As it stands something needs to be done to restore balance. They kill faster than all weapons at a longer range than most weapons and are the easiest primary to use.Just because I think it's funny if you actually read the post put a smiley face at the end of your comment
To balance this Pulses could take a rate of fire nerf across the board to make it so missed shots actually hurt you a lot more. Also other weapons such as hand cannons and autos should receive a slight stability and range buff to allow them to compete with pulses at mid range so pulse rifles do not dominate all ranges. Scouts could receive a rate of fire buff and a stability buff make them more viable at all ranges and to help off set these changes.

1 ReplyThey always been this good. They used to be better but everyone was too busy using thorn/tlw.

3 RepliesEven at severely long ranges, i have been out-gunned by nirwens mercy while using a scout a few times. It takes less time for two bursts than 3 or 4 scout shots. My opinion-> medium to high impact pulse rifles have too much stability at long range

I truly don't believe it's the guns. Maybe a particular few but not all pulses are like that. I have to use 3-4 burst with bad ju ju to take anyone down in the crucible with full health. If you nerf them a bit just for crucible then it messes with them in pve. Definitely don't want that since my main combo is bad juju, obsidian mind and nova bomb. Just wait until next month when the newest craze of weapon comes into play. Everyone will forget about pulses and fusion or scouts will be back on the chopping block. Good day to you kind guardian. :)

Scouts getting a rate of fire buff? Are you crazy? My hung jury has decimated an entire team because it has a great rate of fire and the second highest impact archetype. Increased rate of fire would make it become Tlaloc. Not to mention Tlaloc would become the new last word seeing as it will fire even faster.

Hand cannons and auto rifles are not meant to be competitive at mid range in this game. Pulse rifles dominate because of the size of the maps though, they're so small that almost every encounter is a mid range one.

The answer to all that you seek can and will be summed up in just a few words.
a tiny box of raisins
Was Thorn OP before TTK came out?
-
7 RepliesPulse rifles were actually nerfed to a small degree for TTK. Dont believe me? Read the weapon balancing notes that released before the expansion.
-
The best pulse rifles now still couldn't compete with some of the prepatch y1 weapons such as thorn or tlw
-
They're op
-
9 RepliesNah you're right, how come every other fps can balance guns?! I want to be able to use anything and not get punished :)
-
they're a little OP, not gonna lie
-
Not too strong no, just the best current weapon type. Thorn, now that was too strong. :)
-
Lol yeah they are too stronk.
-
Are you complaining about Nerwins in particular or pulse rifles in general? I personally think all weapon types can be out gunned and countered.
-
dont care, crucible is not competitive so it doesnt matter if pulse rifles are good or not. stop asking to nerf my weapons for PVE! i need them! -blam!-ing crucible whiners already killed my shotguns the bastards

Edited by ErksomePredator: 10/27/2015 3:17:16 PMI personally can't use pulse rifles. They're too fast for me. Can't hold it down. Hand cannon and scout rifles for the win.
-
No, they're not. You can effectively use Scouts, Pulses, and Auto Rifles now. All 3 are good in their own ways. Handcannons besides Hawkmoon and TLW got completely -blam!-ed though.

All weapons are on a rotation basis. DEV have said this more than once. Next wave will be another gun ect. Just the way it is. End of story.

Pulsehalla!!!

No just everything else isn't as good.

Edited by WTFisTrue: 10/27/2015 2:29:57 PMThe weird thing is that TTK pulse rifles aren't even lasers compared to year one pulse rifles. Each TTK pulse rifle has a horizontal recoil pattern(on some weapons it's minimal, but it's still there) unlike The Messenger, Super Pox VLO, 55A-allFATE, Hopscotch Pilgrim, and The Stranger's Rifle from year one(just a few examples). Each weapon has its optimal engagement, and Pulse Rifles are just really good at mid range, which most maps operate. Hand Cannons and Auto Rifles kill faster at close range, and at mid-long and long ranges on bigger maps(Skyshock, First Light, Bastion) Scout Rifles easily outgun pulse rifles(the falloff damage is real here).

4 RepliesI think pulse rifles could do with maybe a small tweak to make auto rifles more of an option, but you have to remember that the grouping is intentionally the way it is, handcannons dominate close up, auto rifles slightly further away, pulse rifles are mid range, and scout rifles mid to long ranges. Use a shotgun, fusion rifle or sniper rifle to counter the range your weapons do not cover. Hand cannons seem to be nowhere in crucible outside of hawkmoon (which is made for the crucible) my last word seems unusable which is disappointing as it is probably my favourite gun style wise in the whole game! The problem I think is the over saturation of things like red death and nirwens which melt in the crucible and skew the odds. :)

Some auto rifles and hand cannons have a faster TTK up close. Especially if you're getting staggered like crazy by a mid-RoF auto. Scouts can kill you out further than a pulse reliably can, same goes for snipers. Sidearms can kill you right quick further out than a shotgun. You'd need a solid 2 burst pulse to have a chance (e.g. Red Death). It's not that pulse rifles are OP, it's that the vast majority of our engagements are in optimal pulse rifle range. That's a map problem, not a weapon problem. Same for shotguns.
