exotic sword quest step needs tweaking
MAJOR EDIT: i properly looked through my posts and it actually does look like one of the things im complaining about is the length of the step. this was unintentional and was meant to point out how much time it took me to find 1/10 materials required. i am actually completally fine with spending an hour and a half on a quest step for this exptic sword. what i meant to point out was how boring it is. this game is meant for you to have fun. i dont want to go through 1 and a half hours of bordom to get something else to have fun with
i just spent maybe an hour and a half farming the legendary material you need for the bolt caster... i still only found 1/10
somethibg like this should NOT be taking that long to complete, i get that its a quest for a really good exotic weapon, but you should make the quest actually hard... dont just make me roam around the planet looking for spinmetal leaves that have like a 5% chance of dropping what i need.
my problems with this quest step:
the material gathering part of the quest is INSANELY boring
on earth it gets extremally hard to mind material nodes because after you pick them up once it takes 30 minutes for them to respawn
the crazy amount of nodes you have to pick up before you (usually) get the material you need
this entire step is almost completally dependent on RNG
some of my suggestions to fix this problem are:
require only 5 legendary materials instead of 10
lower the respawn timer of material nodes by... a lot
increase the chance of the legendary material dropping by... a lot
those are my suggestions
the main reason im complaining is because of how boring it is. walking around looking for materials isnt fun. i am only able to play around 3 hours a day and using all of that time, boringly walking around a planet is stupid.
Edit: guys, i dont care how long it took you to complete this step of the quest. what im saying is that there shouldnt be such a big time difference between how long it takes different people to complete this step. thats just unfair. it shouldnt take one person 1 hour to find the 10 materials and the other one hour to find 1/10 materials
Edit: im not doing anything wrong either, so shut up about that. i was on my hunter, using keen scout and scanned every god damn millimeter of land there was to scan
Edit: I AM NOT SAYING THAT I DONT WANT IT TO TAKE WORK. i know that its for a really good exotic with a high attack stat. what i mean is that we should have a fun time doing the quest. i would honestly have more fun doing the beginning of last weeks nightfall, over and over again

I farmed rocketyard. Bunch of spinmetal in a not so big area and can farm the arc kills too

2 Repliesa few tips for the farming part. 1) bring a ghost that can track the desired resource 2) get a sniper rifle 3) when you patrol wait for about 1-2mins for the resource to spawn into the area 4) zoom in with your sniper rifle and it will show all resources within range of the sniper rifle (they will be marked by a white circle) 5) proceed to the next area and repeat step 3&4 6) return to your starting area or move to a new area and repeat steps 3&4 note: when I was farming for the helium filaments it was very hard because the areas on the moon are small so there are less resource nodes compared to earth where the areas are large and had plenty of resource nodes so the moon took me 2-3 hours to farm and earth took about 1 hour. hope this helps in anyway, hope you get an exotic sword on armsday :)

Try doing 3 swords on 1 character. And keep thinking about the reward that you will get after the grinding. It will be worth it.

1 ReplyHere's the thing... Not everybody is going to get the exotic sword because not everybody has the patience for it. A year ago we had to search for our materials so many of us have the experience needed for material farming. I get that it's rng for the special materials, but with the new ghosts and a sniper it isn't hard to find. Yes it's frustrating. But it's worth it. As are most the quests in Destiny.

I just drop in each time I start playing, harvest til I get one or two mats and then go do other stuff. It's no emergency for me to finish!

Get a ghost that can detect whatever mat you're farming for, get a high zoom sniper, zoom in on the sniper, you're welcome

1 ReplyHmmm.. I kinda agree with you.. but I would say that when the quest was dreamt up the idea was that this part of the quest would be done in conjunction with normal bounties etc.. I guess they should of known how impatient (me included!) the community is and foreseen that people would just grind until they'd completed the stage.. I'd add that i've done it twice & both times the oft quoted 1 in 10 stat for the drop rate was spot on both times - each time I did it i had around 100 iron/helium and time taken was about the same.

4 RepliesUse the farming trick: 1) Get into the patrol zone 2) Find a place where the materials spawn next to the transition zone (that part full of obstacles that leads you to the other patrol areas) 3) Grab the material, run to the transition zone, go to the next area and return to the area you were before (like we did when Chest Farming in HoW) 4) The material will respawn in the exact same spot. Grab it, Rinse and repeat. I was lucky enough to find a place where 2 Spinmetal would spawn next to the transition zone. Got 8/10 in about 30 minutes.

1 ReplySomeone here didn't do the material farming back in vanilla. Also I think the hour and whatever minutes you spent to get only 1 of those legendary materials seems like a false statement. For my void sword, took me 3 hours to get all 10, so something here doesn't seem right. Make sure you only open nodes as chests do not help in this.
