Bringing friends to Mercury: Yea or Nay?

Yes (non-ToO friends allowed)

No (non-ToO friends not allowed)

So I was fortunate enough to have a flawless passage today, and I think it's really cool that a new social space is the reward for doing so. That being said, I think the situation should/could be somewhat improved, and I have an idea for that improvement. A lot of my friends that only play for the PvE part of the game will probably never be able to pull-off a flawless passage, and it seems silly that the people who most enjoy exploring new areas are effectively locked out of an entire planet. On the same token, I can see why people who earned their passage would feel slighted if this privilege they've earned was given away for free. My suggestion is this: Allow those who have completed a Flawless Passage to bring a non-flawless fireteam to the Lighthouse. I think this is an all around better solution for everyone involved. For the PvE players, it allows them to see this new area they want to see, while for the ToO Champions, it allows them to show off their accomplishment in a much grander way. At the moment, the only way to really show you've been there (outside of telling people to look at your location in the roster) is to use Adept weapons or the Emblem, which wouldn't be affected by letting PvE players in. In addition, it would create a (certainly brief) moment of appreciation between the two camps, and it would be cool if the next expansion included a PvE equivalent. Obviously this would have to be implemented carefully (to make sure PvE players couldn't loot the area), but I think it would be well worth it. Let me know what you think. Also, just for fun, here's a clip of our last round. We lost the two rounds before this making it 4-4 (had to be interesting, for the 9th win, right?). https://account.xbox.com/en-us/gameclip/a98d9b30-cb4f-46d4-abd8-226d1e81c3a3?gamerTag=Boltfan&scid=37770100-f9ae-4b80-9dad-7c1d0ec14469

  • It was, personally, the biggest incentive for me. Hang the loot, the emblem and etheric light; the chance to visit Mercury pushed me and my fellow pew-pew brigade to 9 - 0. If you get escorted there without putting in the hard yards, where's the drive to earn your place among the fabled halls?

  • Really, I'm not worried, because eventually the entire area will likely be made available to everyone. Think about it. An area that big, with clear as day spots for vendors, and many hints to osiris being a big part of a future expansion? The trials are just an attempt to draw the guardians out of the tower; to take them away from a place where so much is kept from them. Osiris and his followers wish to spread the truths he learned, but currently can't. So they are finding worthy guardians to take the first step. Out of the vanguard's/speaker's regulations, a select few who prove themselves are shown small truths; just enough to get them wanting more. Eventually, when the followers of Osiris get what they want and grow in power, they will openly invite guardians to the lighthouse to share their insight. Right now, Osiris is taboo, but if enough guardians Come to their side, the vanguard can't stop them. So for now, let the winners have their prize. It will eventually be for everyone (and then a new type of complaint will be made, but whatever).

      • Nope. You have to earn the right to be there. For anyone else who can't, suck it up.
