Stupid Dark Souls 2 question
How do you parry? I keep doing it on accident, but when I try to do it with my shield it just goes right through them.

If you are hit in the parry window of the parry animation, the enemy will be stunned and open for a finishing blow. Different shields / weapons have different windows and animations

If it's anything like DS1 then right when they're about to strike you, you push LB followed by your normal attack button
