Weapon names hidden meanings

So there are a bunch of weapons with what seem to be acronyms in their name. A good example is TFWPKY 1969. Which stands for the fall will probably kill you 1969 which gets its name from Butch Cassidy and the sun dance kid. There are others and I'm wondering what you think they mean. Here are my speculations a -Another NitC ( Another nail in the coffin) -Badger CCL (badger couldn't care less) poking fun at the viral video honey badger doesn't give a -blam!- I'm sure there's many more! The Trolley Problem - Description reads - pull the lever it's the right thing to do. It is in reference to the trolley thought experiment explained here The Trolley Problem Coiled Hiss 1919 - any ideas are welcome
Coiled hiss 1919 is in reference to the origins of rolling a "snake eyes" in craps. First appeared in 1919. Or, being "snake bitten" is a way of being unlucky in sports. Maybe something in 1919 was unlucky in a major sporting event that year.
GA x Ceasar
Googled it and looked around, there was a group of African American WW1 fighters called the Harlem Hellfighters, and their emblem involved a coiled snake ready to strike. I'm at school so can't do a bunch of research on my phone, but it's worth looking in to
AlanizPlease Apparently this topic has been investigated before here's another thread with a lot more. Very interesting Credit goes to Latch
As you may already know No Land Beyond references a Russian sniper rifle and a quote from a russian soldier TFWPKY 1969 Hand Cannon is a reference to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid made in 1969 "the fall will probably kill you, but if it doesnt the bullets surely will." When I got this scout rifle Another NitC it hit me without realizing it... I was humming Pink Floyd's The Wall pt.2 because the name of the scout rifle made me think of that then it hit me the full name of the scout is Another Nail in the Coffin Hammer it home. which is the description is an idiom for an early death The Trolley Problem is a thought experiment dealing with the lesser of two evils do you kill one to save many or kill many to save one and that one means everything to you. Two to the Morgue: A reference to the movie "The Untouchables" "they put one of ours in the hospital, we send one of theirs to the morgue." B-line Trauma isa beeline to giving an enemy a traumatic wound. (Credit to AndyMatches) 123 Syzygy is an astronomical phenomenon coined by Arthur Cayley (Credit to zukavogle) LDR5001 Long Distance Relationship Ballistic Heartbreak. it is a sniper rifle after all (Credit to purringwalrus23) The devil you don't/ the devil you know are part of a saying. "Better the devil you know than the devil you don't" (Credit to rabidspaghettios) For The People "I stand against the state of nature": A philosophical view by Thomas Hobbes (this is the DLC auto rifle with the most impact while the rest have low impact high ROF this one has decent impact which a majority of players love) EPIC FIND FOR PASSWORD XXXXXX!!!! Against All Odds: Threat assessment calculates your odds of survival at 3,721:1...unless you pull this trigger. During Starwars: TESB C3P0 says "Sir, the possibility of successfully navigating an asteroid field is approximately three thousand seven hundred and twenty to one." I'm guessing it is a reference to this. Coiled Hiss 1919 is most likely a reference to the flag of a coiled snake with the words "Don't Tread on Me". 1919 was when a lot of army units, including one whos motto was "Don't Tread on Me" was returned to the US and disbanded. It could also be a reference to the Treaty of Versailles. (Credit to SorrowSong) Time on Target TOT is a military term used to designate artillery firing multiple rounds that impact in the same area at the same time. This can be done by having one gun fire rounds at progressively lower angles or by cordinating the fire of multiple guns. (Sorrow Song) Badger CCL Badger Couldn't Care Less- PG version of Honey Badger reference most likely (Credit to Zerosixious) One Way Ticket 000 000 is the emergency number for Australia. While "one way ticket to the ol' triple zero" most likely means you're going to the hospital and not coming back ever (credit to TheOfficialDubs )
• I love how the quote says " better the devil you know than the devil you dont." Does anyone else find this to be hilarious ad well as a conspiracy? I never started using hand cannons til i bought my first one from the vanguard in december 2014. I bought "the devil you dont" because bungie likes to take great things away from its players. I loved the weapon kind of. I think its obvious as to what i did not like. But after purchasing and playing with friends they kept telling me how much better "the devil you know" is sooooo much better. 1- i didnt get the chance to get it. 2: all destiny vendors should sell all base game and dlc weapons 24/7. 3: THE -blam!-ING QUOTE IS LEGIT! "BETTER THE DEVIL YOU KNOW THAN THE DEVIL YOU DONT." I liked TDYD until i got lets say any other handcannon in the game. So the moral of the story is that why would they have this happen? Its not a coincidence. They have fun putting shitty weapons in this game just so they can take tally on who uses them and then joke about it over coffee before blowing luke smith and writing code.

  • a.1f19x-ryl - "One Fails Nineteen Times - Risk Your Life" explanation below. This is a reply to a post further down, but lets see what everyone thinks. What I have thus far is: "Risk Your Life" is a MMORPG released 10 or so years ago. Another clue is "Risk your life and get more than you ever dreamed of. Play it safe and end up holding the bag. Luke 19:26 (MSG)" I'm leaning towards "One Fails Nineteen Times - Risk Your Life" First bit is from the saying 'Perseverance is failing nineteen times and succeeding the twentieth'

    • WAIT. If the phrase is "Better the devil you know than the devil you don't.", does that explain why the devil you don't is so bad? Because the devil you know, according to the saying, is better?

PLAN C The birth control pill is called "Plan B" so I figure "Plan C" is the "Crucible" version of that. Could also just be about having a plan b, plan c... PERUNS FIRE Perun is a Cryllic God of thunder and lightning, but also had the power of fire GJALLARHORN from wiki: "In Norse mythology, Gjallarhorn (Old Norse "yelling horn"[1] or "the loud sounding horn"[2]) is a horn associated with the god Heimdallr and the wise being Mímir. Gjallarhorn is attested in the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional material, and the Prose Edda, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson." HANNIBAL-E This explanation is a bit of a stretch, but "Hannibal" is a well known military commander that ranks amongst histories best. He is also famous for his use of "Elephants" in battle. So perhaps this weapon is a reference to the "Heavy Weapon" Hannibal Elephants. SA/4 Surface to Air Missile PRAETORIAN FOIL The Praetorian Guard were the Roman emperors personal guard. Perhaps this name indicates a weapon so powerful it could be the ruin (foil) of the Praetorian Guard. FAIR AND SQUARE This is a well known saying with very old origins. Possibly military, possibly from freemasonry. EIDOLON ALLY Eidolon is a greek word for a ghostly apparition. Historically, an Eidolon has often appeared and offered advice and support, so it makes sense then that the Eidolon Ally is your ghostly ally. DOCTOR NOPE Probably a reference to the first James Bond movie "Dr No" GALAHAD-E Galahad is a famous knight of King Arthurs Round Table. I don't know what the "E" is all about... maybe "Excalibur" BRONZED MIYAMOTO-D Miyamoto Musashi is one of the most famous Japanese swordsman in history. I don't know the rest so I will invent some "BS": Musashi was always outside fighting, so he got a nice bronzed tan, and his favourite letter in the english alphabet was "D"

For The People "I stand against the state of nature" References social contract theories espoused by Thomas Hobbes. That humans are stronger, and therefore more likely to survive against natural enemies, if banded together. But safety in numbers comes with a price, rules and laws that protect people from each other, and tyrannical governments.
