You don't want match making honestly! The amount of times I've been to destinylfg to get a group and they turn out useless or never done it before is high!! You're better of joining a clan, I did and now I'm completing everything at ease :)

You are right. But it raises another issue, there is nothing in game to interact with the clan! You don't have say a "Clan NPC" in the tower who you can go to and see who of your clan is online, and you can select and join their fireteam etc etc. At least I don't think you do?

You add them to your friends list!! If that clan was any good they would of registered it on BUNGIE and you'll see who's in the clan! Even make a post where people put their gamertags in! Common sense.

No, but if you press start and go to the left you'll have a roster page and you can see who's online there.
