13.4 billion years ago, the first stars kindled out of darkness, seeding the future of all life.
This is the in game description for starfire protocol, a warlock chest. However, the oldest known star is only 13.2 billion years old. Therefor, we can deduce that the game is set 200,000,000 years in the future.

I bet the DFS sale is still on
-
What i want to know is. If destiny is set so far ahead in the future, why are the weapons still like todays guns... surely a green lantern style ring, magical gauntlets, skin tight mech suits... i could go on, would be a better fit (but i guess you could say its an alternative universe where thats just the way it is)

New older star found. http://www.slate.com/blogs/bad_astronomy/2014/09/26/oldest_star_astronomers_have_found_the_most_ancient_known_star.html

You are kind of....behind...
-
It takes tens of millions of years for stars to form. If the game is that far in the future, it's because the Vex have -blam!-ed something up.

Edited by Brabbink: 3/10/2015 1:00:29 PMIt's set 700 years in the future http://m.uk.ign.com/wikis/destiny

What? No, its saying the oldest known star is 13.2. That does not mean it is the oldest star ever. Just like the "Lucy" (I think that's her name) skeleton scientists found. Its the oldest known ancestor of humans. It doesn't mean she's actually the oldest.
-
known now, with travelers tech maybe they narrowed it down to 13.4
-
Also...that doesn't say anything. It's just a random fact about stars because the universe is much older.
-
I would argue but I forgot my science, brb gotta go get a degree
-
I don't think 1980 Ford Escorts we see littered in Russia would still exist in any form after 200 million years.
-
After 200,000,000 years... THE ARCHIVE'S POWER IS STILL PARTIALLY ACTIVE.
-
Think that's too far as the cryptarch makes comments about the time period, an ancient communication device 1,000 years pre collapse I think he's talking about a cell phone
-
Good to see the No Land Beyond made it out in one piece
-
How can it be 13.2 Billion years old when there are only 7 million people on the Earth now? And how can it be 200000 years in the future when Jesus was re-incarnated as an apricot and his evil twin brother won American Idol and stole Kim Kardashians high heels to make a sex tape with a Turtle.
-
Well we did expand across the solar system and the golden age boosted our technology drastically so it's possible they found a new oldest star.
-
I could tell you when is it, but I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain.
-
Dude, Earth is 2015 years old. That's why we have YEARS. Read a book.
-
But the universe is 13.8 billion years old.
-
Our sun would've killed us by then. When it runs out of hydrogen to burn, it will burn helium and grow until it swallows our planet and explodes
-
No shit, have you never watched the opening cutscene
-
With 200 million years of practice I may not suck at it so bad!. On second thoughts ..
-
200,000,000 years from now... Sentient space robot soldiers will be fighting magic alien creatures with a bolt action rifle with iron sites. I mean yes, they have laser guns and magic guns that regenerate ammo or turn you invisible or melt targets or fire missiles that track, but why use those? Better to stick with old reliable. If it was good enough for my great, great grandpa when he was fighting the -godwinslaw!-, it's good enough for an Awoken male fighting Cabal on Mars.
-
200 million years and still no flashlights
-
Lol m8 u got it all wrong it's quite obvious earth was cr8td 2015 years ago by Santa Claus
-
Wow. In 200 million years we'll still be using revolvers...
