From a veteran IceBreaker user...
I've had my IceBreaker for a long, long, LONG time. Even had to go through the trouble of re-leveling it post-DLC, because there was no compromise...it had to be updated. This is my go-to exotic weapon for all endgame content...as it will (or should be) yours.
The majority of people buying it from Xur will almost assuredly need it, and I can tell you from experience that after you get accustomed to it's disgustingly huge recoil, you will learn to love this rifle. Each time you fire off that signature whistle and send some unfortunately alien to it's burning demise, you will be happy you have your hands on the best sniper rifle in the game.
So yeah, enjoy it folks...happy to have more people with it around now. I'm not one of these spoiled brats who's gonna get mad because they're not special anymore. Get that thing from Xur, get it leveled up and then on Jan 21st show those Boomer Knights in Crota's dungeon the true meaning of death from a thousand paces.
[i]EDIT- This was not meant to be a IceBreaker Vs. Black Hammer debate. I happen to have both fully upgraded, and I prefer the worry free versatility of IB over BH's higher DPS. To each their own...but IceBreaker is one of the "Big 3" exotics in the game. If you can get it, get it...and enjoy the benefits of what I call the "MEGA Multi-Tool".
EDIT- Multiple edit alert! Yeah, I'm one of those guys now. :-P Generally positive response. Good stuff. Yes, there's a handful of assholes who shame their parents with their idiocy but that's to be expected.
EDIT- Yeah, veteran. Had it before Xur sold it the first time. Like how all us Alpha/Beta players are veterans compared to the newcoming holiday crowd. Savvy? Get your heads out of your asses for one small moment for love of country?[/i]

1 Replyi love the gun, but once i got Patience & Time and the BLack Hammer, you realize Icebreaker is a strong sniper with terrible recoil and reload speed, but its ammo regeneration makes it priceless, but nowadays i just use it to regen ammo to 6 then switch to a better sniper with the ammo converting to the other gun, then switch back, rinse wash repeat! needless to say, i had 2 icebreakers already and i just bought a 3rd today!

DOOD.....spot on. I've had that gun since the last time it was sold and MAN...it's my fav gun hands down, besides the Vex. I vaulted it between characters all the time. Needless to say I am buying 2 so each of my 3 guardians has it ready to go!

I'm in the same boat. I got mine as a lucky drop before he sold it, and it's by far my go to exotic for pve. Level it and join me on the raid. I'm tired of being on lone boomer patrol

I use ice breaker to solo nightfalls and that's about it even though it is so nice to shoot a couple shots off switch to a primary kill a couple aliens with that and switch back to IB and have full ammo again. Very good weapon you won't regret the purchase

True dat! I love P@T, IB and BH. IB is nicest of all 3 IMHO, and that is saying a whole lot. Bungie deserves major props for selling this gun to general public.

I have had mine since the 2nd week of the game and actually have gotten a 2nd and 3rd one from Nightfall and Crota's chest which I leveled them both up to have one on each character and not have to do vault exchange anymore. What OP says is true, it is WELL worth having, and I also use it as end-game gun. I also have the black hammer but that one is a very situational sniper even if your good at sniping and I say that because the reload time on black hammer if you miss a shot is HORRID. When fighting a bullet sponge boss the blackhammer will be best, if your fighting regular mobs and a boss that moves a lot (so you can't crit every shot) then the Icebreaker is best. In the long run my personal opinion is Icebreaker > Black Hammer. I am just glad that I am not going to have to be the "go-to sniper" anymore, lmao.

I agree with this thread, it's not an OP weapon like the Gjallarhorn. So I don't see why a sniper is making such a big deal lol isn't like they are handing out Vex's

You unlocked the hive disruptor perk, that perk does extra damage therefore it ruins the Precision chain.... AND this ONLY happens on HIVE Ultras. For those who want to keep the precision chain active vs Ultra HIVE's... DO NOT Unlock the Hive Disruptor Perk. Now.. I agree Ice Breaker is the better "overall" sniper rifle in the game for PVE, but your comment about being hard to do 3 precision shots in a row leads me to believe you are using BH incorrectly. Black Hammer (BH) is THE BEST BOSS sniper rifle in the game PERIOD. You can have a MUCH quicker Time to kill with BH over Icebreaker on a boss fight. Stick with Ice Breaker for MOBS... But switch to BH vs a boss... and now u can have that Jellyhorn or Dragons Breath as well and do Serious Boss Damage. Hope this helps... but if you choose to stick with Ice breaker you are missing out on some great DPS vs a Boss. use Ice Breaker on the small boys... once the Big boys come out... switch to BH and Exotic Heavy.
