I keep seeing people who say that 3 of the same class is cheating and I can't wrap my head around their logic. How is that cheating? They have to get drops still and upgrade their armor like everyone else. Is it cheating for me to give my hunter items that dropped on my titan? I just don't understand their logic about why it's cheating.
Edit: most responses I've ever gotten. Glad to see most think like me and that it's fine. No adequate explanation for the cheating reason. No idea how people come up with that.

i had 3 titans 2 hunters 1 warlock and have reached at least 20-28 with all of them.i have had 2 titans at one time and the only thing i exchanged was the weapons. I hate grinding for 150 marks just for a stupid good weapon. Now i have 8 primaries 4 exotic secondarys and 2 exotic heavies. i dont have any reason to have that many weapons on one character so when i make a new character i have a weapon to use at 20. Now im working my titan main to 31 and have a 11 level hunter and level 1 warlock. when they get to bout 25 i may delete and start over who knows? Never tried 3 titans at one time. but hey who knows?

12 RepliesEdited by WinlockLocal: 12/29/2014 2:34:45 AMLet's say you have a warlock. You get that warlock to level 32 and then decide you want to more warlocks. Once you get to 20 for the new warlocks you can just exchange gear between the warlocks. It's pretty much the lazy way out. If you work hard enough you can get a new character to 20 in 6 hours. And just by spending the 6 hours on your new characters you can do three nightfalls, three weeklys, and multiple raids. It might not be cheating, but it's definitely lazy.

It's not. Thread closed.

It's not. You have to remember most people are -blam!-ing dipshits

I don't find that it's cheating, I feel that if anything it's sort of a cop out; a way to get the most chances to get the needed gear and a corney way to work on getting class items and vanguard/crucible commendations, not to mention you would be able to easily destroy a character and save and l of their gear in the vault then rapid level to 20 and tada instant 32... it just seems a bit unfair to those who play the game for all three classes to not be rewarded the same way. I personally could care less, I have a strategy with my clan that I use a class that best suits the upcoming missions/strikes/raids when needed and we paradigm ourselves to have the best possible outcome, but if you wish to simply have the same thing in 3 forms, go nuts....
also, my clan has 2 people with repeat characters, so ndb
7 RepliesI don't talk trash about it because I don't want to whine and it is their choice to play that way. But as someone who has all three classes near max, it feels like they are cheapening the game. I can't possibly get a single maxed character as fast as someone with three of the same toon. So it seems cheap that I am punished (by not getting to max as fast) because I want to experience the whole game. The sad thing is though, that there's no way to fix it. Letting you raid multiple times a weak would fix it but break the game and make finding a group impossible a month after the dlc comes out. So the only thing people can do is complain, because it does suck for us, but we overall decide that the "FULL" experience of the game is worth the sacrifice.

Im almost lvl 20 on my first alt. going to be fun doing the raid twice and having a second chance at the boots : )
-
I would make the other 2 classes, but no throwing knives, capes, or ninja super is a turn off
-
Lol definitely smart. I was getting duplicate armor so I made another warlock. Before long I had 2 sets of gear upgraded from the raid. So.... in short y waste the drops. Play smart and use them and have fun running the raid over and over and boosting that skill.
-
I don't care for it. But I feel a little irritated at people who gear swap
-
I was missing out on coins and everything else by only having one character. Without the resources to upgrade a second set of armour I created a duplicate hunter. Which I regretted once I started to build up shards and things... However since the Crota dlc dropped this character is useful again. After this weeks reset Im deleting this second hunter to make way for a Titan so I can do the melee / shotgun exploit in the crucible.

I have 3 of same class #noshame , it really should be a thing people look positively at. But it makes me laugh when people say its cheap.
-
1 ReplyI'm going to laugh if people have three of a class and that class gets "nerfed" super badly.

1 ReplyEdited by JHarv: 12/29/2014 5:51:31 AMLISTEN, NERDS it is not cheating. it's bungie's fking game, and they decided to not make armor soulbound and they allow trading among your own characters. HOWEVER, it is very cheesy that we have to roll dupes in order to stay ahead of the curve. i hate that i have three hunters who can all use one set of gear. it is also very cheesy and a completely stupid design that light level means more than anything else in the game, and by a long shot. more than weapons, attack, armor stats, perks, class, playstyle, talent spec, ALL OF IT. because that's the way the game was designed, we are all doing what we feel is necessary to succeed in this game **WHICH IS ACQUIRE LIGHT AT ALL COSTS**. they can fix it if they like, but as long as light is the sole determining factor in pve player performance. i'm going to play it in such a way that helps me get my light level up as quickly and efficiently as possible. let's put this discussion to rest. it's the game, it's not the players. the ball's in bungie's court. BUMP IF YOU AGREE.

I've literally just written a long, sprawling response, about this same matter, on a different thread. I like you, don't see how it could be considered cheating. It's a perfectly viable strategy, made intentionally available by the game, and the develeopers. If someone wants three of the same, go for it! If someone else wants three different wants, full steam ahead! It makes no difference. How one person choses to play has no effect on how another will. In short, play how you want to play! Someone chosing three different characters has no impact on my choice to have made three of the same, and nor should it!

Its not

3 RepliesI'm fine with it, although I do think it kinda effects players that don't negatively. Like the players that do run 3 of a class get geared faster, and then most likely stop raiding cause they are done at that point. In my mind this makes it harder for people without 3 of one class to find groups. Just an Idea. No hate to the people that run 3 of the same. It's an option, and that's how they want to play.
-
The issue is that you shouldn't have to play 3 of the same class to feel you are being rewarded adequately in the game. It is to simply boost the rolls in RNG for class specific gear. Mostly Raid Armour. Nothing else is exclusive to class to warrant multiples of the same class. In a way that depletes access to the gameplay options of playing each class. I feel that being able to play through the raid weekly as each class makes the gameplay ever so different and varied to keep things interesting. Each class is fantastic and should be enjoyed.
-
Definitely not cheating. People just want to get what they want on one specific class. One of my friends do the same, but their reason is that they don't have time to play, yet they play raids and other stuff which totally don't make any sense to me. I have each class (Hunter, Titan, and Warlock). Each of them need two or one more raid gear to be 32. My reason for having each class is because I'm patient to get what I want and waste time in playing. But it's truly isn't cheating
-
Its a highly efficient way to play, not cheating. I love my hunter so I have two. I run a warlock on the side. I had a titan once but didn't enjoy it and wanted to make the grind easier on myself. Hence why I have my second hunter. Several people I play with have adopted the 2:1 setup and love it. I have respect however you want to run your characters.
-
Oh that's easy, it's cuz it's not guy.
-
1 ReplyThere are just facts. It's not cheating. Pros if playing 3 of the same class is just easier for the game in the grind and leveling up eq. RNG works the same you just get dupe gear to move between characters so that is why it's easier.
-
Boring?...possibly. optimization of play time?...hell yes
-
It's only cheating yourself out of four different classes to play around with.
-
If the ones complaining about it exchanges mats and weapons between characters they are hypocrites. It's exactly the same. By the way I played Titan and Warlock, maxed their subclasses and didn't like them. So I made three hunters. I believe it's fine to play with the class or classes you like.
-
3 RepliesIt's retarded not to. The point of the game is progression by grinding the same "content" over and over and over again. Might as well increase the chances of progression by creating 3 characters of the same class.
