They are "commendations" and yes, they suck.
But newer players have it easier, because if they're just starting out, they'll receive one every time they rank up with vanguard or crucible.
It's harder to rank the higher up you are. Meaning like going from vanguard rank 4 to rank 5

After rank 3 it's all the same exp. Leveled dead orbit 2x yday.

It's still only 2500 rep each rank up. It doesn't increase beyond that whether you're rank 4 or 22. Still lame though.
